Kendrick T. Jackson

AMBER Alert Issued For Missing 3-Year-Old Katrina Evacuee

Authorities in Houston, Texas have issued an AMBER alert for 3-year-old Kendrick Jackson who was last seen on April 7, 2006. According to officials, Kendrick's father reported the child vanished Friday morning while he was doing his laundry. Authorities say Kendrick's father told police he went upstairs to put a load of clothes in the dryer and when he returned downstairs, Kendrick was gone and the door was ajar.

Kendrick and his mother evacuated New Orleans last August during Hurricane Katrina. The family moved to Houston shortly thereafter. Kendrick's father is remarried and authorities say she had just left for work when Kendrick was reported missing. Police say 3-year-old Kendrick had been visiting his father since April 4, 2006 and just disappeared.

Kendrick is described as three feet tall and weighs about 30 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and pajama bottoms.

Dad charged in missing boy's murder

Thursday, June 18, 2009  Cynthia Cisneros

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- More than three years after a little boy went missing without a trace, prosecutors may finally have a case against the man they have long suspected of murder: the boy's own father.

A grand jury has indicted Roderick Fountain, the father of Kendrick Jackson who was only three years old when he disappeared.

Investigators have not found a body, but think they have what it takes to prove he was murdered.

We spoke with a prosecutor who said this case is a culmination of three years of investigation for the Harris County District Attorney's Office, police, and the FBI. They presented the evidence Thursday to a grand jury, who indicted Fountain for felony murder.

It is Roderick Fountain's own words, said authorities, that led to Thursday's indictment of felony murder.

"Part of the evidence will show that he has made admissions to other persons regarding what happened to Kendrick," said prosecutor Connie Spence. "Admissions to other witnesses that will be presented at trial.''

Fountain is the father of Kendrick Jackson, a three-year-old boy who was at the center of a citywide search in 2006. At the time, Fountain called police himself to report Kendrick was missing from Fountain's west Houston apartment complex.

Even with an extensive search by hundreds of volunteers, Kendrick has never been found. The Harris County District Attorney's Office believes Fountain murdered his own son.

When we asked Spence how the state believed Kendrick died, she replied, "From the actions of Mr. Fountain by him striking the child with his bare hands."

Fountain has spent the past two years in federal prison serving time on a firearms possession charge.

Authorities said Kendrick's mother, Keyanna Jackson, now lives in Arlington, Texas. Our attempts to contact her were unsuccessful. However, Spence says Keyanna has been very helpful in the investigation.

"This has always been about Kendrick and Keyanna because that was her baby. I think every day she thinks about that child," said Spence.

As for Fountain, he is serving a 15-year sentence in a federal prison just outside of San Antonio. The next step is for the case to be assigned to a district court.

Mom Testifies In Trial Of Kendrick Jackson's Father
Roderick Fountain Accused Of Killing Kendrick Jackson

Published On: Nov 10 2011 01:54:23 PM CST  Updated On: Oct 25 2011 06:20:56 AM CDT

HOUSTON - The mother of a 3-year-old who is believed to be dead testified Tuesday in the trial of the toddler's father.

Roderick Fountain, 37, has been charged with felony murder in Kendrick Jackson's death. Kendrick was last seen at his father's apartment on April 7, 2006. He has not been seen since and his body was never found, despite numerous searches.

Prosecutors claim that Fountain beat Kendrick to death the day before he reported him missing.

Kendrick's mother, Keyanna Jackson, testified about when she saw Fountain trying to down her son in a bathtub. She used a doll to demonstrate how the boy's head was under water.

She also testified about bruises she noticed after Kendrick visited with Fountain.

On Monday, a witness who was not identified said that Fountain admitted to killing Kendrick. The witness testified that Fountain said he put the body in trash bags and buried them.

Closing arguments are expected to be held on Wednesday.

If convicted of the killing, Fountain could face up to life in prison.

Fountain was sentenced to 15 years in prison on a felony possession of a firearm conviction shortly after Kendrick's disappearance. Police said they found the weapon as part of the investigation into the boy's disappearance.

Fountain told police in 2006 that his son left his apartment while he was doing laundry. Police believe Fountain killed Kendrick and then hid the boy's body. Witnesses said they saw bruises on the boy's body before he went missing, according to prosecutors.

Fountain has nine children. He was convicted of possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute in 1992 and robberies in 1994 and 1997.

FBI awards special recognition to Harris County prosecutors

From Community Reports

Three Harris County assistant district attorneys were recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Feb. 22 for exceptional work in criminal prosecution.

In a ceremony hosted by DA Pat Lykos in the District Attorney's Office, FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Carlos Barron presented Harris County ADA's Lance Long, Beth Shipley and Connie Spence with FBI Director's Certificates in recognition of their achievements.

ADA's Long and Spence were recognized for their work prosecuting Roderick Fountain, a man convicted of murdering his three-year-old son Kendrick Jackson. The prosecution was particularly challenging because the child's body was never found. Extensive testimony centered on Fountain's history of abusing the child and two jailhouse confessions. Fountain was convicted of murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Spence received additional recognition for her prosecution of LaMarques McWilliams, a serial rapist who forcibly tied up, tortured and sexually assaulted at least three women. Because the women engaged in prostitution, the cases presented unique challenges. McWilliams was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes.

ADA Shipley worked with Ft. Bend County prosecutors in the capital murder prosecution of Edward George McGregor. McGregor was implicated in the deaths of four women, including the sexual assault and murder of a Missouri City woman when McGregor was just 17 years old. DNA evidence from Houston crimes determined that McGregor committed the 1990 Ft. Bend slaying, as well as three others. With Shipley spearheading the prosecution, McGregor was sentenced to life in prison.

Said District Attorney Pat Lykos:

"The Harris County District Attorney's Office is staffed by some of the finest prosecutors in the nation, and I join the FBI in extending my heartfelt appreciation to ADA's Long, Spence and Shipley. Their passion, dedication and talent make all the difference as we pursue justice for crime victims, their loved ones and the broader community we serve. Thank you and congratulations on a job well done."

Said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Carlos Barron:

"ADAs Spence, Long, and Shipley's exemplary professionalism, selfless work ethic and unyielding dedication reflect great credit upon themselves and the Harris County District Attorney's Office. Thank you all for your efforts in the name of justice!"
