Dozens came together Saturday night to remember Debbie Heriford, a Colorado Springs mother who has been missing for one year.
Heriford disappeared on March 31, 2011. She was last seen walking her dog in the area near Vickers and Union.
A year later, friends and family still hold out hope for some sign of what happened.
Debbie’s daughter, Sarah Heriford, says it’s been a long year but that doesn’t change their feelings.
"We will never quit fighting; we will never quit being her voice," she said.
Those who showed up came with balloons and a memory they had with Debbie. Debbie’s oldest daughter Christine Mazerelli told 11 News it was a way for everyone to share one final message with her mother.
"It was a way to share something with her that you didn’t get a chance to,” she said.
The details in to her disappearance have left many with unanswered questions. Her daughter says her keys and her phone were never found after she went missing.
Saturday night those questions were put aside.
"We didn’t want this to be about what may have happened we wanted it to be about a woman who was loved and cherished and to remember her as such,” Mazerelli said.
While her children say remembering their mother brings some comfort, it doesn’t come close to closure.
"Life moves forward whether you do or not," Sarah said.
Debbie’s disappearance has been ruled a homicide. Police have yet to name any suspects and continue to ask for the public’s help.
