The steep, tree-covered hillside to the south cast shadows as dark as the police work Saturday morning.

A team of bloodhounds joined law enforcement in a search for any possible evidence in connection with the disappearance just over five years ago of Beverly Ozuna-Ulrich, a young-looking grandmother who last was seen in Belle Fourche.

“We found things of interest and we will do more,” Police Chief Tom Maunders said as the team broke for lunch.

But bloodhounds have been documented finding human remains older than a century and a half.

Vigil set for Belle Fourche woman missing since 2003

October 10, 2012 6:30 am

A candlelight vigil for Beverly Ozuna Ulrich is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Belle Fourche United Church of Christ, according to Butte County Sheriff Fred Lamphere.

Ulrich, of Belle Fourche, has been missing since Oct. 17, 2003, when she was 42. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as standing 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 130 pounds and having brown eyes, medium-length black hair, the tattoo "Steven" on her upper arm, and a pierced right eyebrow.

Ulrich remains on the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation website list of missing persons, and a PDF poster with a photo and description can be downloaded at http://dci.sd.gov. Search for “missing persons” and following the links.

Authorities say anyone with information about Ulrich should call the Butte County Sheriff's Office at (605) 892-3324, Belle Fourche Police Department at (605) 892-4354 or the state Department of Criminal Investigation at (605) 773-3331.
