Search for ND Woman Continues

10/25/2011

The search for a missing Grand Forks County woman has gone nationwide. The Grand Forks Sheriff`s Department says until recently, the search for 82-year-old Florence Dumontet was limited to the states she was supposed to be traveling through. Dumontet was on her way to Washington state.

Searchers are following up on a number of leads, but they don`t have anything concrete.

New Information Surfaces in Search for Missing ND Woman

10/28/2011

There`s new information in the search for a missing woman from Grand Forks County. The search for 82-year-old Florence Dumontet of Ardoch, is now focused on a 118-mile stretch between butte and missoula, montana.

Surveillance video has her filling up with gas in butte on Oct. 16 -- the same day she left Grand Forks for Washington State.

Police don`t think she crossed into Idaho as a license plate I.D. system did not register her vehicle coming across the border.

MISSOULA- Investigators say they "just don't know" what's happened to a North Dakota woman who probably disappeared somewhere between Butte and Missoula.

Florence Dumontet left her home outside Grand Forks, North Dakota on October 16th to visit friends west of Seattle. Investigators have evidence of her stopping for gas on store security cameras in Bismark, Forsyth and Butte. But from there she just vanishes.

Montana Authorities Believe A Missing North Dakota Woman Is Dead
Montana authorities say they believe a North Dakota woman missing for three months is dead.

January 5, 2012

Montana authorities say they believe a North Dakota woman missing for three months is dead. There's been no trace of 82-year-old Florence Dumontet of Ardoch, N.D. since she cashed a traveler’s check at a gas station in Butte, Mont. Oct. 16, the same day she left her home en route to visit family in Washington state.

Montana sheriff John Walsh says since Dumontet has not had contact with anyone, he presumes she's dead. Dumontet's case, including DNA and dental records has now been put into a national database, that's used to ID bodies.

Family not giving up search for missing Ardoch, N.D., woman

Published April 14, 2012, 07:50 AM

Lenaye Driscoll is not ready to give up.

The great niece of Florence Dumontet is continuing the search for the 82-year-old Ardoch, N.D., woman who disappeared nearly six months ago.

Driscoll, of East Grand Forks, is spearheading a fundraiser today at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church social hall. The benefit runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is open to the public and will include food and beverages. Attendees will be asked to make a free will offering, which Driscoll plans to put toward increased efforts to find Dumontet.

Dumontet went missing midway through a trip from her home to Washington State, where she visited friends and family every year.

She was last seen at 9:22 p.m., Oct. 16 at the Town Pump gas station in Butte, Mont., about 15 hours after leaving Grand Forks.

Family members believe she was planning on staying the night in Missoula, Mont., leading authorities to narrow their search to the 118-mile stretch of Interstate 90 between Butte and Missoula.

“It’s just hard to see her disappear like that,” Driscoll said. “Our hopes are to bring her home and have closure.”

Few clues

Authorities have been stymied by the lack of clues in the case and haven’t had a significant lead in months.

Some of the money from the fundraiser would likely go to continued searches and a renewed public awareness effort in Montana.

Idaho authorities have already done one flyover of Montana. According to Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Dan Hillebrand, the lead investigator in the case, Montana authorities are considering another flyover of the area when the conditions are right.

“We’ve covered all the bases, at this point it’s a point of re-covering them,” he said.

Driscoll would like to see a helicopter flyover of the area, allowing inspection at slower speeds. She would consider using some of the benefit earnings to pay for a private flight if necessary.

An earlier fundraiser attended mostly by people from the Minto, N.D., and Forest River, N.D., areas near Dumontet’s home raised $2,500. Driscoll said her family is thankful to those who have already helped the effort to find Dumontet, who was driving a 2008 black Lincoln Mark LT crew-cab pickup when she disappeared.

Other options Driscoll is mulling include a dog search and soliciting the help of the Montana chapter of the Back Country Horsemen to search the area on the ground.

Driscoll believes it may take closer inspection to solve the mystery that has baffled friends and family for nearly half a year.

“I find it very uneasy for her to disappear off the face of the earth like this,” Driscoll said. “If there’s some closure out there, let’s have it.”

Missoula Sheriff's Department Confident No One Inside Submerged Vehicle
MISSOULA COUNTY

By Kevin Maki
POSTED: 3:28 pm MDT May 1, 2012
UPDATED: 3:37 pm MDT May 1, 2012

EAST MISSOULA, Mont. -- The Missoula County Sheriff's Department reports it's confident that no one is inside the vehicle submerged in the Clark Fork River near East Missoula. Search and rescue workers broke the windows of the dark blue pickup and probed for occupants, but didn't find any.

The pickup was discovered near the Sharon Fishing Access site Monday evening. Investigators said the pickup does not match that of a missing North Dakota woman's vehicle.

Florence Dumontet was last seen with her black pickup in Butte last October. Crews plan to retrieve the blue pickup in the river late Tuesday afternoon.

"One of the options is to place air bags underneath the vehicle," said sheriff's department spokesman Jason Johnson, "rise it up off the bottom and then maneuver it to the Sharon Fishing Access site."

No Clues in Montana Search

5/2/2012

The search of an area along a Montana highway did not turn up any clues in the disappearance of an elderly Ardoch, ND, woman. A Grand Forks County deputy spent five days in Montana, helping look for Florence Dumontet, 82, who`s been missing since October 16 on her way to visit friends in Washington state.

Sgt. Dan Hillebrand says they searched state parks, fishing access points, and salvage yards. They also checked animal shelters, because Dumontet was travelling with her dog.

Deputies Find Few Clues in Montana Search for Missing Ardoch, ND, Woman

By: Stacie Van Dyke, WDAZ
Published May 02, 2012, 05:04 PM

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Grand Forks Sheriff's Department deputies were unable to find any sign of a missing Ardoch, ND, woman during their trip to Montana.

Sergeant Dan Hillebrand and Corporal Larry Hoffman arrived in Montana on April 23 to search for 82-year-old Florence Dumontet, who has been missing since October.

The investigators focused on parks and fishing access points in a 118-mile stretch between Butte and Missoula.

They didn't find anything, but say a few tips have come in since they returned.

"We accomplished most of our goals and that was one of the main ones, dealing with local law enforcement in the area and trying to get her name and her face out there along with her vehicle description and we were able to do that," Hillebrand said.

Investigators still do not suspect foul play.

Lead develops in older missing woman case
An Ardoch, N.D., woman missing since October was last seen at a Missoula, Mont., gas station with another woman that law enforcement officials are now looking for, according to the Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department.

Published July 11, 2012, 06:58 AM
The Jamestown Sun

GRAND FORKS — An Ardoch, N.D., woman missing since October was last seen at a Missoula, Mont., gas station with another woman that law enforcement officials are now looking for, according to the Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department.

“This was a recent acquaintance,” said Sgt. Dan Hillebrand. “We have a possible name and we’re attempting to locate this individual.”

Florence Dumontet, 82, was on her way to Washington state when she went missing.

Montana law enforcement originally tracked her to a gas station in Butte, Mont., on the evening of Oct. 16, more than 15 hours after she left Ardoch early that morning.

But a manager at Muralt’s Travel Plaza in Missoula, 118 miles west of Butte, said he believes he saw Dumontet about 10 a.m. Oct. 17.

Montana officials have mounted multiple air searches for Dumontet and the 2008 black Lincoln Mark LT crew-cab pickup she was driving, focused on the stretch of highway from Butte to Missoula.
