It’s been about nine weeks since 14-year-old Chyenne Kircher left a note, telling her family she ran away.

Her mom says Chyenne functions below grade level and isn’t the type to do something like this.

EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. — The clear blue sky over East Dubuque High School filled with hundreds of bright yellow balloons Tuesday as students remembered one of their own who is not with them.

Chyenne Kircher, 14, has not been seen or heard from since after the school day ended on Oct. 13. She was in the East Dubuque freshman class, but the entire high school turned out for the brief ceremony Tuesday at the end of the school day.

Missing East Dubuque Girl's Family to Mark One Year Anniversary

By Katie Wiedemann

EAST DUBUQUE, Illinois - An East Dubuque Family is still hoping for the safe return of a missing teenage girl. It's been almost one year since Chyenne Kircher's family last saw her. Now they're hoping the anniversary of her disappearance will generate new information about where she is.

Kircher was 14-years-old when police say she wrote a note to her family saying she was running away. Her family says Chyenne struggled in school but wasn't the type to run-away.

In the past year, Chyenne's family has celebrated holidays, family reunions, even Chyenne's 15th birthday. All without her.

The missing persons signs are fewer and further between. But, East Dubuque police say the search for Chyenne is still active. They sent samples of Chyenne's hand-writing to the state crime lab to find out if the handwriting matched the run-away note. Police won't say exactly what they found but say the results did not provide them with any reason to believe there was foul play involved in this case.

Police Chief Steve O'Connell said most the leads they received during the past year were mostly repeat information.

O'Connell said, "there was never any information that seemed like it was so important that it was going to break the case open. Everything has been tips or information for us to make follow up calls with the family, but nothing that we found as critical."

Chyenne's family is planning a candle light vigil at East Dubuque Elementary School starting at 7 p.m. on October 13th. That will be exactly one year since they last saw her.
