A search team of helicopters, ski patrol, rescue dogs and ATVs has combed the mountainside near Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Searchers on Saturday once again looked for a 48-year-old Alta man in the Hellgate area of Little Cottonwood Canyon without any luck.
Corry Ehlers told his girlfriend he was going to hike the area on Monday and has not been heard from since.
Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal said Ehlers was reported missing Tuesday, triggering searches by helicopter, ski patrol, rescue dogs and ATVs.
Hoyal said crews searched the area on Saturday but found no signs of the man.
"There is no clear evidence to say that he is on the mountain," Hoyal said.
No one saw him hike up the mountain, Hoyal said, adding that Ehlers knows the trails and area well and hikes them frequently.
Ehlers left his cellphone and car behind at a condo he was supposed to be moving out of on Monday. That car and another one belonging to him were found in Sandy, both filled with his belongings.
"We want to try to find out what happened to him or where he is at," Hoyal said.
The Alta marshal’s office and Unified police detectives are investigating his disappearance.
Anyone with information on Ehlers or his whereabouts is asked to contact the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.

Twin Falls Grad Missing in Utah
May 30, 2012
By Kimberlee Kruesi
TWIN FALLS • It’s been eight days since his son went missing. John Ehlers has started to think the worst, but hopes that he’s wrong.
On Monday, May 21, 48-year-old Corry Ehlers told his girlfriend he was going on a hike at Little Cottonwood Canyon in Utah, John Ehlers said.
When she didn’t hear from Corry on Tuesday, she notified the police.
The Greater Salt Lake Unified Police Department Search and Rescue team immediately began using helicopters, ski patrol, rescue dogs and ATVs to locate Corry. Heavy snow fall and low temperatures made search attempts difficult, especially when trying to search hard-to-reach crevices and ravines
“With weather conditions as they are, we feel like he made a wrong step and didn’t make it,” John said.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Ehlers left his cellphone and car behind at a condo he was supposed to be moving out of on Monday. Another car belonging to him was found in Sandy; both cars were filled with his belongings.
Corry was born and raised in Twin Falls. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1982 and eventually moved to Alta, Utah — near Salt Lake City — to take advantage of better skiing opportunities, John said.
“Skiing was the No. 1 thing he loved,” he said. “He lived for skiing. He enjoyed hiking because it kept him in shape for skiing. All his life, he was always going out and climbing cliffs and just anything outdoors, he loved it.”
With a love for the outdoors, it doesn’t surprise John or his wife Marianne that Corry would go out on a hike by himself.
“My last conversation with him was about taking his son, Josh, out to the mountains,” John said.
The Greater Salt Lake Unified Police Department and Alta Marshal’s Office are still investigating Corry’s disappearance.
For now, John said he doesn’t want his gut feeling to be right but doesn’t know how much longer he can hold out waiting for something to turn up.
“I guess we’re thinking on the sad side of things,” Ehlers said. “But there’s always a chance we’re wrong.”
“I hope I’m wrong.”

A daylong search, using volunteers and dogs, failed to find an Alta man believed to have gone missing three weeks ago in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
A Unified Police Department (UPD) dispatcher confirmed Sunday that no trace was found by searchers who combed an area of the Alta Ski Resort that had been covered by snow during an earlier search this spring.
On May 22, Corry Ehlers, 48, an avid skier and outdoorsman, reportedly told his girlfriend he was going on a hike in the Hellgate area of the canyon. He has not been heard from since. Initially, UPD officers, ski patrol and volunteers scoured the area, assisted by helicopters and search dogs. No trace was found, and the search eventually was suspended with no real evidence that Ehlers had remained on the mountain trails with which he was said to be so familiar.
Ehlers left his cellphone and car behind at his Sandy condo. That car and another one belonging to him were found in Sandy filled with his belongings. Anyone with information on Ehlers or his whereabouts is asked to contact UPD at 801-743-7000.
