MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - An Arkansas family is looking for their father, and husband who was last seen in the Mt. Vernon area.

On the morning of July 12, 57-year-old Randall Super left his home in Cove, Arkansas en route to help his mother for a couple of weeks. She lives in the Cleveland, Ohio area.

Super's wife says she heard from her husband later in the evening on that Thursday, when he stopped for the night at the Thrifty Inn in Mt. Vernon.

"He did phone us on that night when he got to the hotel," said Elizabeth Super. "He left us a phone message that said, 'Hi this is Dad, I've made it to my destination everything is good I'm in Mt. Vernon. The trip was uneventful.'"

That next morning on Friday July 13 Super checked out of the Thrifty Inn and headed over to the Denny's restaurant for breakfast.

"He was seen on the restaurant's surveillance cameras going in having something to eat, going to the bathroom and then going back out to his truck shortly after 7:30 that morning," Elizabeth said.

But, that was the last time anyone saw Randall Super, and that previous evening was the last time anyone heard from him as well.

"I did try to call him on Friday afternoon around 2 o'clock when he should've been getting closer to the Cleveland area, but I got no answer."

Super stands 6' 2" tall, he weighs approximately 190 pounds. He has short cut brown hair and wears glasses. He's also a diabetic, and his wife says he did take his medicine with him.

Elizabeth says her husband is a very pattern prone individual and that this is not normal for Randall.

"This is so out of the ordinary. We just want people to pray for him and help him get back home. We don' know where to look, we just need people out there looking for us."

Randall was driving his 2000 Ford F-350 Super Cab maroon pickup truck with a maroon camper shell on the back. It has an Arkansas license plate number of 216JPE.

His wife says the last time his credit card was used is when he stopped in Matthews, Missouri to fill up with fuel.

"He's the father of four children. We've been married 28 years, and he's a wonderful man. He's a good man. We need him back home," Elizabeth said.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Randall Super, you're asked to call the police. He has been entered into the nationwide missing persons database.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department is investigating his disappearance.

Wife says missing man was spotted in Sims, Illinois

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The search continues for an Arkansas father, and husband who was last seen in the Mt. Vernon area.

Elizabeth Super says her husband Randall was positively identified by the postmaster in Sims, Illinois around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Super says the postmaster saw Randall driving by really slowly in his maroon Ford pickup staring at the post office. Super thinks that her husband connected the post office with her because she is the postmaster in Cove, Arkansas.

She says that the oppressive heat is really hard on people with diabetes. Super hopes someone will spot her husband and get him to police or the hospital.

This all started on July 12. That's when police say 57-year-old Randall Super left his home in Cove, Arkansas en route to help his mother for a couple of weeks.

An Arkansas man headed to visit his mother in Ohio has not been heard from, and his family is concerned.

Randy Super from Cove goes to visit his mother every year, but the last time his family heard from him he said he was in Mount Vernon, Ill. That was on Thursday.

Super never made it to Ohio. His credit card has not been used, his cell phone has been turned off, and his maroon Ford F-350 is also missing.

Super's wife is a postmaster and has sent an alert to mail carriers in the Illinois area to be on the lookout for the truck.

If you have any information about Super's location please call police.

Sightings of missing man reported

July 21, 2012
By RORYE O’CONNOR

MT. VERNON — — Two sightings of missing Arkansas man Randall Super have been reported, though none has been confirmed by law enforcement.

The Sims postmaster told Elizabeth Super, Randall Super’s wife, that he saw the man driving by slowly.

“The postmaster called me and he said he saw him at 1:30 on the 17th driving really slow from the post office,” she said. “He thought he was going to stop in, because he was staring really intently.”

Elizabeth Super said she is a postal employee in Cove, Ark., and she thinks he may have associated the Sims post office with her.

Thursday at 11:27 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of North 10th Street told police he may have seen Randall Super. He said he saw a man matching the physical description released trying to hitch a ride south bound from Interstate 64 near Grayville at about 4 p.m.

“Any sightings reported have not been confirmed by law enforcement,” said Mt. Vernon Police Department Chief Chris Mendenall.

Randall Super, 57, of Cove, Ark., was last seen at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Pilot Truck Stop at 4610 Broadway, Mendenall said.

He was driving a maroon 2000 Ford F-350 four-door pickup truck, Arkansas plate 216-JDE, Elizabeth Super said. He is 6’2”, 190 pounds, white, with blue eyes and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing glasses, blue jeans, a tan knit shirt and a tan cap.

Elizabeth Super said she needs a good Samaritan to spot her husband and help him, as she believes he may need medical attention due to his diabetes.

“If anyone encounters him, he needs orange juice or candy bar,” she said. “Don’t let out of your sight, call the police so we can get him to hospital. I think (the diabetes is) causing him to roam. He’s really not sure what’s going on.”

She said when he prepared to leave their home for a trip to Cleveland, Ohio, to visit family, he got a new supply of insulin from his local pharmacy.

“He usually is so careful when he travels alone, so this is very odd, for him to have gotten so out of whack,” she said. “The heat may have something to do with it.”

Elizabeth Super said she and her husband have four children who need their father to come home.

She said her faith is helping her through the situation.

Police continue to investigate the situation and are in contact with Super’s family, Mendenall said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Randall Super is asked to call the Mt. Vernon Police Department at (618)242-2131.

Amherst native still missing

Published: Wednesday, July 25, 2012
By RON VIDIKA

SHAKER HEIGHTS — Reports of sightings of Amherst native Randall Super have expanded the search for him into Kentucky and Ohio.

His sister-in-law, Encie Super, of Shaker Heights, said reports of sightings of Super, 57, who has been missing since July 13, have come from motorists along highways in southern Ohio as well as Kentucky.

Encie Super said she believes her diabetic, 57-year-old brother-in-law, a forestry engineer and resident of Cove. Ark., may be suffering from low blood sugar and may have become extremely confused of his location.

Although Randall Super regularly makes a trip from Arkansas to Ohio, Encie Super said, “He has had periods of confusion (in the past). If he is not taking his medications and is not eating, it sounds like he is just confused, trying to go someplace, but does not know where to go or how to get there.”

Over the weekend, there was an aerial search that covered a very large grid, Encie Super said.

Joining in the search from the air was a state representative from Arkansas, who flew his own plane, Super said.

The last official sighting of Randall Super was leaving a Denny’s restaurant in Mount Vernon, Ill., the morning of July 13.

He was to have arrived at his brother, Dennis’ Shaker Heights home, that day.

Super said she has “switched” her efforts to informing police departments in southern Ohio, along I-70 and I-71, about her missing brother-in-law.

“We’re determined to find him,” she said.

Randall Super has brown hair, wears glasses, is 6 foot 1 inch tall and weighs 180 pounds. He is driving a 2000 Ford F-350, maroon-colored pickup, four-door with a maroon cap with Arkansas license plate number AR 216-JDE.

Those with information about Super’s whereabouts are to contact the Mount Vernon, Ill., police department at (618) 242-2131.

Amherst native reports found erroneous

Published: Tuesday, July 31, 2012

By RON VIDIKA

SHAKER HEIGHTS — What seemed optimistic last week regarding reports of sightings of missing Amherst native Randall Super and his truck were erroneous reports.

“We have no new information. The earlier reports we had received turned out to be cases of mistaken identity. The person that they spotted and the truck they saw looked familiar, but there were a lot of discrepancies. We’re back to zero again,” said Encie Super, Randall Super’s sister-in-law, of Shaker Heights. She is now reaching out to bike clubs, motorcycle clubs and any clubs who are on the roads.

Super, 57, of Cove, Ark., was last seen in a video surveillance picture made July 13 at 7:30 a.m. as he was leaving a Denny’s restaurant parking lot in Mount Vernon, Ill., en route to Ohio.

Super, a diabetic, was to have arrived in Shaker Heights later that night to take care of his mother, Margaret Super, for a two-week period, while his brother, Dennis, and sister-in-law, Encie, took a two-week vacation.

“He was supposed to be here Friday (July 13) for supper. Thursday night (July 12) he was in Mount Vernon, Ill. He said it was an uneventful trip and said he would see us for dinner Friday night. He spent the night at the Thirfty Inn in Mount Vernon. His last contact was Friday (July 13) at 7:30 a.m. when he was at a Denny’s restaurant in Mount Vernon, Ill. A video shows him paying for breakfast at Denny’s, getting in his truck and leaving,” Encie Super said.

“After he left the Denny’s, there was no credit card usage by him,” Encie Super said.

“Randy is a diabetic and it concerns us. When he gets low (insulin), he gets confused. He may have pulled off the highway because he wasn’t feeling good,” Super said.

Super’s mother recently moved from Amherst to live with her son Dennis.

Super is driving a maroon-colored 2000 Ford F-350 truck with Arkansas plates, AR 216-IDE.

Those with information about Super’s whereabouts should contact the Mount Vernon, Ill., police department at (618) 242-2131.

Family still seeking missing Amherst native

Published: Tuesday, August 07, 2012

By RON VIDIKA

SHAKER HEIGHTS — It has been 25 days since Amherst native Randall Super, 57, was last seen, but family members are far from giving up on finding him.

Super, who is diabetic, lives in Cove, Ark. He was driving to Ohio to visit his mother in Shaker Heights, when he disappeared. He also had planned to go on to Maine where he owns land, said sister-in-law Encie Super, wife of Super’s brother, Dennis.

The family has contacted police departments across Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio, and all the way back to Cove where Super lives with his wife, Elizabeth, who is the town’s postmaster, and their four daughters.

Posters have been sent to the authorities. An air search was conducted and a private detective was hired to help find the 1973 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School who works as a forestry engineer. To date, no information has surfaced.

Encie Super said a chicken dinner and a band concert took place over the weekend in Mena, Ark., near Cove, to raise funds to continue the search for Super.

Super is well-known in Cove and Mena, where the family attends church and where Super is a member of the Knights of Columbus and is an active volunteer for many causes. The residents are returning the favor, Encie Super said.

“USA TODAY ran a blurb a couple of times from The Morning Journal about Randy’s disappearance. We’re hoping for help from the national press in spreading the story,” Encie Super said.

“We need to extend our base of people to get the word out about his disappearance. Billboard companies have been contacted so we can put them up along the highways with a picture of his face and description and picture of his truck,” Encie Super said.

Since Super’s disappearance July 13, none of his credit cards have been used. And his cell phone has not been used.

His sister-in-law said she believes he bought a month’s supply of insulin and syringes before he left for his trip to Ohio, a supply that is dwindling.

“We have no new information. The earlier reports we had received turned out to be cases of mistaken identity. The person that they spotted and the truck they saw looked familiar, but there were a lot of discrepancies. We’re back to zero again,” Encie Super said.

She said she does not think foul play was involved and that her brother-in-law is suffering from a lack of insulin in his body.

She has reached out to bike clubs, motorcycle clubs and is now reaching out to utility companies with information on Super’s disappearance.

“We’re reaching out to anyone who is on the road regularly,” she said.

Randall Super was driving a maroon-colored 2000 Ford F-350 truck with Arkansas plates, AR 216-IDE.

Anyone with information about Super’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Mount Vernon, Ill., police department at (618) 242-2131. Super was last seen in Mount Vernon, where a video surveillance camera showed him leaving a restaurant parking lot.

Missing Amherst man found dead in southern Indiana

Published: Friday, December 07, 2012
By RON VIDIKA

SHAKER HEIGHTS — It appears that the body of Amherst native Randall Super, 57, missing since July, has been found in southern Indiana. The body was found in Super’s truck, submerged in water, and results of an autopsy are expected today.

A motorist on Interstate 70 near Terre Haute, Ind., spotted the bumper of a vehicle protruding from a body of water on Wednesday, according to police in Mount Vernon, Ill. The motorist Googled the license plate number and discovered it was associated with a missing persons report. Super was last seen July 13 in Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon Police Chief Chris Mendenall said Super’s truck “had apparently run off the road, through a fence, struck a tree, rolled over several times and landed in a body of water.”

Mount Vernon police notified the Clay County, Ind., Sheriff’s Department, which located the truck and found the body inside.

“This is the news we have been dreading. It is not what we wanted. This is what we dreaded all along,” said Encie Super, Randall’s sister-in-law. Randall Super was a diabetic, and his sister-in-law feared he may have suffered a diabetic seizure.

A spokesman for the Clay County Sheriff’s Department said yesterday afternoon that an autopsy had been completed but no information would be available until Friday.

Super had been expected to arrive later on July 13 at the Ohio home of a relative in Shaker Heights so he could take care of his mother, Margaret Super, for two weeks while his brother Dennis and Encie went on vacation. Super never arrived.

Super’s disappearance triggered an extensive manhunt that stretched from Arkansas to Ohio, including aerial searches.
