Family looks for missing Deer Park man

A Deer Park native living in Anchorage, Alaska, has disappeared, and his family left Texas this week to help police search for him.

Damon Justin Bonds, 31, has not been heard from since March 29, and Anchorage police reported him missing last week.

Bonds, a 1990 Deer Park High School graduate, has been living in Anchorage for nearly five years and is the father of an 18-month-old boy.

Bonds' parents, who reside in Pasadena and League City, flew to Alaska this week to search for their missing son.

"This is not like him at all," said Bonds' sister, Courtney Broussard, who plans to make the trip north in a few days. "He always goes camping, but it's not like him to not tell anyone where he is going."

Anchorage police found Bonds' truck parked on the side of the road near Delong Lake. Officers thought nothing of the vehicle until they found it had not moved for several days.

Upon inspection, officers found Bonds' dog curled underneath a canopy and his cellular telephone locked inside.

Broussard said her brother's dog was like a baby to him and it is one of many signs alerting the family that something may be wrong.

"There's no way he would have ever left that dog out in the cold, it is his best friend," she said.

Several members of Bonds' family are hoping to help local search efforts, and plan to re-interview people who last saw him.

Bonds' girlfriend and mother of his son said she last talked to him over the weekend about visiting their baby, but he never showed up, Broussard said.

Bonds left Deer Park for Alaska in 1999 after having visited the city and falling in love with its fish camps.

Any local friends who may still be in contact with Bonds are urged to call his family about his whereabouts at (281) 705-0500 or (713) 816-2712.

Bonds is described as white, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair, hazel eyes and a goatee.

Missing man's family posts reward, seeks tips leading to his safe return

A $20,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the safe return of Damon Bonds or information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his disappearance, Anchorage police said Thursday.

Bonds, 31, disappeared in late March. Police spotted his 1995 black Ford pickup at DeLong Lake, in the Sand Lake area, on March 29. Bond's dog, a Labrador mix named Scully, was in the bed of the pickup, which had a canopy over it.

The APD Auxiliary Search Team, assisted by a dog trained to find cadavers, hunted for Bonds in the area around his truck but found no signs of him.

Bonds' father, David Bonds, flew from Houston, Texas, to Anchorage this week with his wife, Becky, to look for Damon. David said his family posted the $20,000 reward out of their own pocket.

Police have labeled Bonds' disappearance "a missing person with suspicious circumstances," according to police spokeswoman Anita Shell.

David Bonds said there are too many things that don't make sense about his son's disappearance. Damon left his truck unlocked, his cell phone inside and his dog trapped in the bed of the truck -- all of which are out of character, he said.

One of Bonds' friends said the same thing in an interview last week.

Anyone with information about Bonds' whereabouts is urged to call police at 786-8500 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.

Police look for leads in man's disappearance

By Warren Williamson

KTUU-TV
Updated: 3:06 a.m. ET April 15, 2004

Circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a local man have his family concerned there might be foul play involved. Two weeks ago, police found 31-year-old Damon Bonds' truck in a parking lot at DeLong Lake.

It was a routine check by officers, but it's now turned into a mysterious disappearance.

An Alaska State Trooper search-and-rescue team was in the sky Monday, high above DeLong Lake, hoping to find any sign of Bonds, who has been missing since March 29.

"He would not just walk away," says David Bonds, Damon's father. He and his wife, Becky, and daughter, Courtney, flew thousands of miles from Houston to Anchorage to help in the search for their son and brother.

The search started the day Bonds disappeared. "The following night, a mid-shift officer, a night-shift officer, saw the truck again," says police spokeswoman Anita Shell. "It had a light dusting of snow, which indicated that it had not been moved. And that's when that officer found a dog in the back of the truck."

Bonds' Ford truck was found unlocked, with his cell phone on the front seat, and his dog, Sculley, safe in the back. But Bonds had vanished, and hasn't been seen since.

"He now has a young son up here as well, an 8-month-old son, who he loved dearly," says David Bonds. "None of this makes any sense."

Police say they're left with no leads, even going as far as checking flights out of the area. "Police conducted a manifest check of the airport to determine whether or not he had flown out, and those results were negative," says Shell. "He did not take off out of Anchorage."

The news of their missing son and brother has devastated the family -- a mother filled with worry, and a father hoping someone will come forward with answers.

"Not knowing and having to go back home is really hard," says Becky Bonds. "We just want answers. We want him back."

"He called regularly 'cause he had no family up here, other than at that time his dog, which is the reason this is so strange," says his father.

The name of Damon Bonds now joins the growing list of missing persons, a list that still includes the name of Bethany Correira, who disappeared from her Anchorage apartment in May 2003. Two young people gone for no apparent reason -- and another family left searching for answers.

Anyone with information on Bonds is encouraged to call CrimeStoppers at 561-STOP

Details of Disappearance

Bonds was last seen in the DeLong Lake parking lot in the vicinity of the 6300 block of Jewel Lake Road in Anchorage, Alaska, at 8:00 p.m. on March 27, 2004. Several days later, his black and gray 1995 Ford F-250 XLT extended cab pickup truck was found in the parking lot where he was last seen. Bonds's cellular phone was on the front seat, the doors were unlocked, and his dog, a Laborador retriever mix named Scully, was in the bed of the truck.

Bonds has never been heard from again. He is a graduate of Deer Park High School in Deer Park, California and had lived in Anchorage for five years prior to his disappearance. His family lives in Houston, Texas. Police checks with local airlines showed that he did not fly out of Anchorage under his own name.

Bonds's relatives say Bonds was very attached to Scully and would not have left the animal behind, and also would not have abandoned his infant son. He called his family regularly, but they have not heard from him since March 2004. Foul play is suspected in Bonds's disappearance. His case remains unsolved.

KTVA - Ongoing missing person investigation: Damon Bonds

Ongoing missing person investigation: Damon Bonds

By Steve O'Brien, CBS 11 News Reporter
Article Last Updated: 05/08/2007 07:36:54 PM AKDT

It's been a mystery for more than three years. A Texas native moved to Anchorage in 1999, then five years later he vanished.

Police are not calling it a cold case, but a suspended, ongoing investigation.

More than three years ago, the last trace of Damon Bonds was found at Delong Lake. His truck was found in the parking lot and his dog, Scully, was found in the back of it. Now his family has returned to Anchorage with one goal in mind: bringing home their son, dead or alive.

It's been more than three years and Bond's disappearance is still a mystery. His parents have developed a list of scenarios in their minds about his disappearance.

He started working at a gun company and eventually opened up his own

When he moved on, they say it could have caused some friction.

He also had a son with his girlfriend--a son that was in the middle of their custody battle.

Now, his parents are battling for answers.

"A song comes on the radio; you see a picture, or you do something you've done with him before. It's constantly on your mind, driving you crazy," said Damon's father, David Bonds.

Damon turns 35-years-old on Wednesday. The family is hoping someone will come forward, solving this puzzle. Police are wishing for the same.

"This is a human life. This is a family we're talking about, anguishing three years. And really, no solid information on what happened and where," said Lieutenant Paul Honeman of the Anchorage Police Department.

The Bonds family pleads to all Alaskans: if you have any information on Damon's disappearance, please call his father's cell phone at 281-705-0500.

Father continues search for 35-year-old son

by Bianca Slota
Tuesday, May 8, 2007

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- On March 27, 2004, Damon Bonds vanished into thin air. The only clues left behind were his truck and dog, which were found four days later near Delong Lake.

That hasn't stopped his family from keeping up a desperate search.

Sunny skies and perfect weather have always welcomed David Bonds to Alaska, but two years ago the emotional toll of searching for his missing son became too much to handle and Bonds decided to never come back.

But this year is different. This year holds a special day. Tomorrow is his son's 35th birthday.

"To be here for his birthday and try to get the word back out again and keep it alive that he's still missing," Bonds said.

Still missing, with no clues.

Damon's friends have tried to help, offering information about ex-girlfriends and shady business partners.

"I've heard so much that it's a quagmire. I don't know who to believe or what to believe," Bonds said.

With nothing to go on and new cases to work on, police are slowly letting bonds' case fade to the back.

Anchorage Police Department Lt. Paul Honeman said the case will be considered cold soon.

"It's not technically cold at this point, but I suppose we're heading that direction fast," Honeman said.

Before that happens, his family is trying one last tactic. For three years they've offered a $20,000 reward for Bond's safe return or for the arrest of the people responsible for the disappearance.

Now they're offering $20,000 for his whereabouts.

"I get through each day thinking that he's still out there, he's still alive. But, deep down, I also have to realize that that may not be the case and if that's not the case, I want to know it. Either way I want to know it," Bonds said.

A father on an emotional journey is happy that people in Alaska have reached out to him, but angry that no one can tell him what happened to his Damon.

"My son was a big part of my life and I want him back. However I get him, I want him back. I want to take him home," Bonds said.

Bonds is worried that people with information may be afraid to contact police, so he is now giving out his own phone number.

You can contact him at 281-705-0500 or you can report an anonymous tip to crime stoppers at 561-STOP.

Do You Know Damon Bonds? He’s Missing

By: Danny Fox  |  May 7, 2012

I got an email from my buddy Steve Graf from the Hook’n Up & Track’n Down Show and wanted to pass it on in hopes that you might have any info about this.

My name is David Bonds. Some of you know me, some of you don’t. My son Damon Bonds has been missing from Anchorage Alaska since March of 2004.

We have no clue as to what happened to him. He’s just gone.

So as far as I’m concerned, he’s still out there – somewhere. Next week is his 40th birthday. The two attachments are ads that will be running in the Anchorage Daily News- newspaper and on-line – all week
5/7 thru 5/13.

Because I have to believe he’s still out there, I’d like these ads to reach as many people as possible. In hopes that he may somehow, somewhere, see them.

The favor I’m asking is . . . PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK.
The more people we reach, the more likely he is to see it.

Just a father desperately trying to hold on to some semblance of sanity, and his SON.

Thank you,
David.
