Gastonia police have identified remains found earlier this month as belonging to a missing Caswell County man.
The remains, found in some woods off Rankin Lake Road in Gastonia,
have been identified as Jeffery Brooks Willette, 50, of 1046 Easy St., of Providence. Family members reported Willette missing on July 19, 2006. No one has heard from him or seen him since that day, according to police.
An autopsy is not yet available.
Police were called to where Willette was found at 1:40 p.m. on Jan. 7. A person collecting aluminum cans found Willette’s skeletal remains, according to police.
Police do not expect foul play in the death, Gastonia Police Sgt. Jimmy Arndt said at the time of the discovery of the body.
The bones were found in a low-lying clearing that serves as a sewer catch basin behind a convenience store. There was no tissue on them, Arndt said.
Willette disappeared a short time after he’d been incarcerated, Arndt said.
Willette was a military veteran.
