Search on for woman whose phone called 911

KENT, Wash. -- The search is on for a missing woman whose phone called 911 after she disappeared.

Family members said they have not seen 21-year-old Alyssa A. McLemore, who lives with her mother and grandmother, in more than a week.

Investigators said McLemore's grandmother last spoke to her on Thursday, April 9 when she told McLemore her mother was very sick.

McLemore's mother suffered from scleroderma, a disease that hardens connective tissues in the body, and died on Sunday but McLemore could not be reached. On Monday her phone went out of service and would not take any more messages, police said.

An investigation revealed that someone had called 911 call from McLemore's phone at 9:15 p.m. Friday. The 911 dispatcher heard a woman's voice asking for help, but because the phone did not have a GPS sensor, the caller's exact location could not be determined. But the signal strength suggests the call came from the Kent area.

Investigators are concerned about McLemore's welfare because of the 911 call and because she hadn't come home to check in on her ailing mother. It is not known whether McLemore has learned of her mother's death.

"I don't want to think about what could have happened," said former boyfriend Albert Walker. "Maybe she got kidnapped, I don't know. I don't want to think about it, honestly."

Family members said McLemore left behind her 3-year-old daughter. Walker, the toddler's father, said it is unlike the doting mother to leave behind her little girl for several days.

"She usually goes out for a day comes back the next day. She's never gone this long," said Walker. This is not like her at all, not like her at all."

McLemore is 5 foot and 1 inch tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds. Anyone who has seen or spoken to McLemore since April 9 is asked to contact police immediately at (253) 856-5800.

KENT, Wash. -- Kent police are looking for a 21-year-old woman who has been missing since April 9.

Officials are concerned for Alyssa McLemore because she wasn't with her mother who died Sunday of an illness and because of a mysterious cell phone call last Friday.

A woman called 911 from McLemore's phone and asked for help, but it cut off and did not have a GPS locator. Now the phone is out of service.

Family Says Missing Kent Woman 'Responsible Mother'
Posted: 3:51 pm PDT April 16, 2009
Updated: 9:54 am PDT April 17, 2009

SEATTLE -- A 21-year-old Kent woman has been missing since last week, and police are concerned because they received a 911 call from her phone.

Alyssa McLemore was last heard from on Thursday, April 9, at about 6:30 p.m. when her grandmother told her that her mother was very ill, Kent police said.

McLemore’s mother died Sunday, April 12.

While investigating McLemore’s whereabouts, Kent police have learned that on Friday at about 9:15 p.m. someone called 911 from her phone. Police said a female voice was heard asking for help.

On the 911 records, the call goes back to McLemore as the owner of the phone.

Her phone does not have a GPS sensor, so they can’t locate the place from where she called. Also her phone was listed out of service on Monday and will no longer take phone messages, police said.

“I think the one key factor that worries us is that she is in constant contact with her family. The fact that she has a cell phone, she is no longer answering, worries us to the point where we really need to find her,” said Lt. John Pagel of Kent Police.

McLemore has a daughter and her family said she is a very responsible mother and that it’s unlike her to not be heard from.

McLemore’s boyfriend and the father of her daughter, Albert Walker, said this is not like her at all and that he hopes she’s “laying low for a minute.”

McLemore is described as an Asian/Pacific Islander, around 5 feet 1 inch tall, about 130 pounds.

Anyone who has seen or talked with McLemore since April 9, 2009, is asked to contact the Kent police at 253-856-5800.

Family Hopes For Answers In Case Of Missing Kent Mother

Posted: 6:08 pm PDT April 21, 2009Updated: 6:36 pm PDT April 21, 2009

SEATTLE -- The family of a missing 21-year-old woman from Kent is asking the public’s help to locate the woman who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

Alyssa McLemore's family said they believe someone is keeping a secret about her whereabouts and they hope to soon find her.

McLemore’s grandmother talked to her 12 days ago when she called her to talk about McLemore’s mother who was very sick and close to death.

“She assured me that she would be there," said McLemore’s grandmother, Barbara McLemore.

Her mother soon died and the family buried her Tuesday without Alyssa McLemore there.

Three hours after talking with her grandmother, police received a 911 call from Alyssa McLemore’s phone. The call was cut off and her phone has been dead ever since.

Police said her cell phone was not equipped with GPS tracking, making it more difficult to pinpoint where she's been.

“She had a new blackberry, so I don't see how that's possible and even with that, they can do pings off the last two towers to find out where the call came from, so what's taking so long?" Russell said.

Kent detectives said they have been following a lot of leads since the story came out, but so far there is Alyssa McLemore, who has a baby daughter of her own and has always been close to family.

“No matter what, even if we get any kind of news, we just need to know, something. I mean it’s really bad and it's really, really sad," said McLemore’s aunt Tina Russell.

They're praying that she might be alive somewhere and afraid to come out.

“I just want Alyssa to know, that wherever she is, that we need her, we love her, and I don't want her to be scared to come home, because so much time has passed, thinking we're gonna be mad, we just want her to come home," Russell said.

U.S. Marshals with expertise at tracing cell phone calls are trying to piece together where she was when the 911 call was cut off.

Anyone with information should call 911.

21-year-old Kent Woman Disappears Days Before Her Mother's Death
Where is Alyssa McLemore? Family members say it's not like her to abandon her three-year-old child, especially since she knew her own mother was gravely ill. Police have little to go on other than a mysterious phone call on her cell phone.

Q13 FOX News Online Staff reporter

KENT - The mystery behind a missing Washington woman continues -- but police are hoping you can help crack the case and bring her back home.

Alyssa McLemore's been missing since April 9th.

Kent police say her grandmother talked to her that night by cell phone, telling Alyssa her mother was gravely ill.

Then it got strange.

Later that same night, police say someone using Alyssa's phone called 911. A female voice was heard asking for help.

There was no GPS on the phone so police could not track its location.

Alyssa hasn't been heard from since.

It's truly been tough times for her family. Not only is Alyssa missing, but her mother died a few days after she disappeared.

So, do you know where Alyssa McLemore is?

She's 21 years old, five foot three and 130 pounds.

Police say she left behind her three year old child -- something her family says is not like her.

If you'd like to help with the search, there will be a candlelight rally for Alyssa McLemore Sunday evening at 7:30 at the corner of James and Benson in Kent.

If you know anything that can help police find Alyssa -- call crime Stoppers right now at 1-800-222-TIPS.

'I just want closure': Friend of missing Kent woman Alyssa McLemore refuses to give up the search

Auburn resident Melissa Moore hasn't given up hope for her best friend Alyssa McLemore, who has been missing since April 9.
Charles Cortes, Kent Reporter

Even though Alyssa McLemore hasn't been seen or heard from since the 21-year-old Kent woman turned up missing April 9, Melissa Moore remains hopeful that her best friend will show up alive and well.

But that hope gets tougher and tougher for Moore to grasp as time goes by.

"I will not give up hope," Moore, 28, of Auburn, said Wednesday. "But I do not live in a world of fantasy."

Since April 9, the day McLemore's grandmother reported her missing, Moore has tried to do as much as she can to get the word out that McLemore, the mother of a 3-year-old daughter, is still out there somewhere, needing to be found.

"I'm like a big sister to her," said Moore, who has known McLemore for about nine years.

McLemore was last heard from about 6:30 p.m. April 9. That's when her grandmother told her that McLemore's mother was very ill, according to the Kent Police.

Detectives discovered that at about 9:15 p.m. April 10, someone called 911 from McLemore's cell phone. A female voice was heard asking for help before the call ended.

The phone did not have a Global Positioning System sensor, so the general location of where the call originated is unknown. The phone number listed on 911 records indicated McLemore as the owner of the phone. The phone was out of service a few days after the 911 call and no longer took phone messages.

The McLemore's grandmore told police that said she did not know where her granddaughter was and that she did not answer her phone when she called.

McLemore's mother died April 12, with still no word from her daughter, although the two reportedly were close. McLemore, unemployed at the time of her disappearance, lived together in Kent with her grandmother, mother and daughter.

"I was at the funeral for her mother and I believed Alyssa would walk through the door," Moore said, noting the funeral was something her friend would never have missed.

"She'd had been there."

Sgt. Dina Paganucci, a Kent detective supervisor, said Wednesday that her department has few leads in the case thus far.

McLemore reportedly was last seen by a witness around April 9 near 30th Avenue South and Kent-Des Moines Road in Kent. The witness reported seeing a truck come up to the young woman.

"She was approached by a pickup, but we do not know who was driving the pickup," Paganucci said. The witness described the pickup as green, a 1990s model, possibly with an Oregon license plate.

"That's not very specific, which makes it difficult," Paganucci said.

A second witness told police they'd seen McLemore at an unspecified date prior to her disappearance with a white man in his 50s or 60s, standing about 5 feet, 8 inches, and weighing 175 to 185 pounds. That man reportedly was driving a green pickup and had some type of connection with McLemore, according to police.

"We're trying to figure out who that guy was or even if it was related to her not being here," Paganucci said.

Moore said she last talked to McLemore a few days before she disappeared.

She also conducted a candlelight vigil for her friend last month on the East Hill, as well as conducting a car wash fund-raiser Saturday in Seattle to raise money for the Crime Stoppers Association of Washington, to help find her friend.

"I'm getting the word out about her still missing," Moore said. "Many people do not realize she was never found."

Moore said her motivation to keep looking for her friend partly comes from McLemore's daughter. Moore also has a daughter the same age.

"If her daughter looks up information on her mom one day, I want her to know her mom was cared for," Moore said. "She was not someone nobody cared about."

Detectives continue to work on the case.

"We don't have any idea," Paganucci said on whether detectives believe McLemore is dead or alive. "But we have concerns based on the circumstances."

Moore struggles each day with whether her friend is alive.

"I'm prepared both ways," Moore said. "I just want closure."

Anyone with information about McLemore can call the Kent Police at 253-856-5800 or call 911.

Police Share New Leads In Hopes Of Finding Missing Kent Woman

More than two months after 21-year-old Alyssa McLemore disappeared, police have new information they've learned from possible witnesses. They're sharing the new lead with the public with the hope of finding out what happened to her.

Q13 FOX News Online Staff reporter
June 19, 2009

Kent - Police are giving us new details on a missing Kent woman -- and asking for your help identifying a man she was seen talking to.

21-year-old Alyssa Mclemore disappeared April 9th.

On the night she vanished, police say someone using her phone called 911 -- and a female voice was heard asking for help.

Now detectives say a witness in the area of Kent-Des Moines Road and 30th Avenue S. says Alyssa was approached by a mid to late-90's green pickup, possibly a standard cab, with Oregon license plates.

A second witness described a white man, 55 to 62 years old, five foot eight, and weighing around 180 pounds -- and driving a similar green truck.

It's believed Alyssa knows the driver of that truck.

Her friends and family recently held a car wash to raise funds to go toward a Crime Stoppers reward for help finding Alyssa.

It's truly been tough times for her family. Not only is Alyssa missing, but her mother died a few days after she disappeared.

So do you know where Alyssa Mclemore is?

She's 21 years old, five foot three and 130 pounds.

Police say she left behind her three-year-old child -- something her family says is not like her.

If you recognize anything about the new information concerning the green pickup truck or the man, or simply know anything that can help police find Alyssa Mclemore -- call Crime Stoppers right now at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Remember, you call is guaranteed to be anonymous.

Missing: Still no answers about Kent woman 3 years after disappearance

By STEVE HUNTER Kent Reporter Courts, government reporter
April 6, 2012 · 4:54 PM

Friends, family and the Kent Police all seem to come up with the same response about the disappearance three years ago of 21-year-old Alyssa McLemore.

"Nothing has changed in three years, sadly," said Melissa Moore, a best friend of the Kent woman.

Kent detectives have three binders of information about McLemore since she went missing April 9, 2009.

"We review the investigation to date to see if there were things we missed," said Detective Sgt. John Pagel. "There have not been any new leads that have panned out."

McLemore was last heard from the evening of April 9 when her grandmother told her that McLemore's mother was very ill. Her mother died three days after McLemore's disappearance.

Detectives discovered early on in the investigation that at about 9:15 p.m.

"It was very unlike her not to be in communication with her family," Pagel said.

Moore, of Bellevue, said there's no way McLemore would walk away from her then-3-year-old daughter, her grandmother, mother or her sister. McLemore's daughter splits time with the young girl's father and the McLemore family.

"If she was able to be here, she'd be raising her daughter and be here for her family," Moore said. "She wouldn't choose not to be here."

Detectives thought they might have a lead when they heard last year about a young woman's body found in Lewis County but it wasn't McLemore. An investigator with the King County Medical Examiner's Office is familiar with McLemore's case and keeps an eye out for any young women brought to the medical examiner that might match the description and clothing of McLemore, Pagel said.

McLemore reportedly was last seen by a witness near 30th Avenue South and Kent-Des Moines Road in Kent when she was approached by a pickup, but police don't know who drove the pickup. The witness described the pickup as green, a 1990s model, possibly with an Oregon license plate.

A second witness told police that McLemore had been seen at an unspecified date prior to her disappearance with a white man in his 50s or 60s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 175 to 185 pounds. That man reportedly drives a green pickup and had some type of connection with McLemore.

Moore spent a lot of time initially spreading the word about McLemore in an effort to find her missing friend. But she said it became too time consuming as she tries to live her life and raise her own family.

A Facebook page updates information about McLemore. But three years later, there are more questions than answers.

McLemore, unemployed at the time of her disappearance, lived with her grandmother, mother and daughter in Kent. She attended Kent-Meridian High School for about a year before dropping out. Her grandmother has since moved to Auburn because she no longer needed such a big home.

"She (her grandmother) wanted to put the word out that the family has relocated to Auburn from Kent," Moore said. "She's concerned because if Alyssa goes to the home she always knew, they would not be home."

Maybe one day answers will be found about what happened to Alyssa McLemore.

"There's been tons of prayers," Moore said.
