Circumstances of Disappearance:
Unknown. Teresa was last seen at her residence on County Road 241 just off of Hwy 62 near Risco, MO. Her husband came home at approximately 10:00am from working the night shift to find their two young children home alone. Miscelaneous items were missing from the residence though her vehicle was left behind. A family member last heard from Teresa at 10pm the evening prior. She failed to show up at work the following day. It is very unusual for Teresa to leave her children unattended.

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- The Southeast Missouri Major Case Squad, Missouri State Highway Patrol, New Madrid County Sheriff's Department and local authorities are continuing the investigation of a Risco woman missing since Wednesday morning.

According to New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens, Teresa Lynn Butler, 35, was found to be missing from her home near Risco, Mo., around 10 a.m. Wednesday, when her husband, Dale Butler, returned from work at a steel mill in Blytheville, Ark.

Stevens said Butler arrived home to find his two young children, ages 2 and 4, alone in the family home on County Road 241, also known as Eight Ditch Road, just off Highway 62 on the outskirts of Risco.

Risco woman missing

RISCO - Authorities are continuing their search for a 35-year-old New Madrid County woman who disappeared from her home.

At 10:25 a.m. Wednesday the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department was alerted that Teresa Lynn Butler was missing from her Risco home. New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens said Jimmy Dale Butler returned to the couple’s home on County Road 241 at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after having worked the night shift at his job in Blytheville, Ark. When Butler arrived home he found the couple’s 2-year-old and 4-year-old children alone.

Risco, MO -New details on the investigation of a missing New Madrid County woman.

35-Year-old Teresa Butler's husband reported her missing from their Risco home Wednesday morning.

He told police he found their two young sons alone, when he returned home from work.

In fact the case squad which is made up of about forty local, county and state officers, asked to stay on the case through Monday, extending their time on the case by about 48 hours.

No leads in search for Risco woman

RISCO - The search for a missing New Madrid County woman is going nationwide.

New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens was contacted by associates of Gretta van Susteren with Fox Television. In the interview Stevens plans to speak of law enforcement’s efforts to locate Teresa Lynn Butler, 35, who was found to be missing from her Risco home on the morning of Jan. 25.

Since that time Stevens and his deputies along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Patrol’s Major Case Squad have searched for the woman. Even a Missouri National Guard helicopter was enlisted in their efforts at one time along with rescue dogs from St. Louis.

Reward is offered for woman's safe return

NEW MADRID - A $5,000 reward is being offered for the safe return missing Risco woman.

The New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens announced Thursday the reward for Teresa Butler’s return. This reward is being offered through the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation.

The reward fund was established by the parents of Carole Sund. Sund, her daughter, Juli Sund, and Silvina Pelosso were the three women sightseers who were missing and later found murdered near Yosemite National Park in February 1999.

RISCO, Mo. -- Police agencies here are tight-lipped about the Jan. 25 disappearance of 35-year-old Teresa Butler from her rural New Madrid County home.

But her family hopes a $5,000 reward posted recently for her safe return will result in tips that might bring Teresa Butler home, her father said Thursday.

Don Buchanan, a retired farmer of Risco, said his daughter would never have left her two boys, Gavin, 4, and Garrett, 2, alone overnight to fend for themselves.

RISCO, Mo. -- Police here are baffled regarding the disappearance of 35-year-old Teresa Butler, New Madrid County Sheriff Tommy Stevens said Friday.

Butler, the mother of two young boys and wife of Gary Dale Butler, 31, of Risco, has been missing from the couple's rural home since Jan. 25.

Investigators hit brick walls since the day Teresa Butler, a Dexter Wal-Mart employee, went missing, Stevens told The Daily Dunklin Democrat Friday.

Bootheel mom missing since 1/25

She hasn't seen her sons Gavin, 4, or Garrett, 2, since Jan. 25. That's when 35-year-old Teresa Butler disappeared from her Risco, MO home near the Arkansas border in the Missouri Bootheel, officials say.

Reporter Steve Hankins of the Dunklin Daily Democrat is publishing a two-part series about the case. The first part appeared online today:

Police agencies are tight-lipped.

A national foundation has posted a $5,000 reward for her safe return.

She never would have left her boys alone, her father says.

RISCO, Mo. -- Police investigators continued their inquiries Tuesday into the disappearance of a rural New Madrid County woman.

Teresa Lynn Butler, 35, of Risco vanished from her home Jan. 25.

She is listed as a missing person, and investigators suspect foul play in the matter, police said.

Missouri State Highway Patrol investigator Bud Cooper said Teresa Butler's family members and officers reviewed a video surveillance tape from Kennett's Johnson's Conoco Tuesday to determine if a woman depicted in the video could have been Teresa.

Church establishes reward in search for missing woman

RISCO - A local reward fund has been set up for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the disappearance of Teresa Butler, a 35-year-old wife and mother who disappeared from her home just east of Risco on Jan. 25.

The reward was started by Butler's church, the Risco First Baptist Church, with $2,000.

Teresa Butler and her husband, Dale, were both baptized into the church a few years ago and attended regularly until her disappearance.

RISCO - Teresa Lynn Butler’s husband, Gary Dale Butler, discovered she was missing when he returned home from work around 9:30 a.m. Jan. 26, after working the night shift at his job in Blytheville, Ark. The couple’s 2- and 4- year-old boys were alone.

When officers arrived on the scene, everything appeared to be in order and there were no signs of forced entry. After further investigation, officers found a video game console and camera were missing from the house and CD player removed from the vehicle outside. Butler’s purse and cell phone were also missing.

RISCO, Mo. -- National coverage regarding Teresa Butler's disappearance from here in January was postponed, a public relations officer who represents the Montel Williams Show said Friday. Butler's husband, Gary Dale Butler, 31, was to have traveled to New York City Tuesday for a Wednesday Montel Williams Show taping, he told The Daily Dunklin Democrat.

However, the production was postponed, Butler confirmed Friday. "The producers of the show said they want to come here and shoot some footage," Butler said. "They didn't give me an exact date when that would happen."

RISCO, Mo. - It's been almost nine months since Teresa Butler simply disappeared. Her husband reported the 35-year-old missing when he returned home from his overnight job, back in January.

Now Dale Butler has even more problems, and he's turning to you for help. "My little one says daddy our house is broke. I say daddy don't have no money to fix it," Dale Butler says. He says his world began crumbling around him when his wife disappeared in January.
