Toni Lee Sharpless

WEST BRANDYWINE - Authorities are requesting the public's assistance in finding a West Brandywine woman who went missing in Montgomery County about 3 a.m. Sunday.

Toni Lee Sharpless, 29, initially went to Ice Nightclub in Gladwyne on Saturday night with some friends, according to West Brandywine Police Chief Walt Werner. Sharpless and her friends then left the bar and went to a house party with people they didn't know very well, Werner said.

Sharpless left the party in her car with a female friend. They got into an argument and the friend got out of Sharpless' car, Werner said. Sharpless then drove off in her black 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, which bears a Pennsylvania registration of DND-7772.

Sharpless "hasn't been seen since," said Werner on Tuesday morning.

Police learned that Sharpless was missing after receiving a phone call from her sister.

Sharpless is about 5 feet 5 inches tall with red hair and blue eyes and weighs about 135 pounds, police said. She was last seen on City Line Avenue near Philadelphia wearing a turquoise shirt with black tights and black sandals.

Investigators ask anyone who sees Sharpless or her car to call West Brandywine police at 610-380-8201.

Authorities are looking for a Chester County woman missing since early Sunday morning on the Main Line.

Toni Lee Sharpless, 29, a single mother living with her mother in West Brandywine Township, was last seen around 3 a.m. at a house party near Gladwyne, according to West Brandywine police.

A friend reported seeing her leave the party, said Police Chief Walt Werner.

CBS3 reported that a text message to Sharpless' 12-year-old daughter is the last communication anyone had with her.

She drove a black 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, with a Pennsylvania license plate, DND-7772.

She was wearing a turquoise shirt with black tights and black sandals. The red-haired, blue-eyed Sharpless is 5-foot-5 and weighs about 135 pounds.

Friends and family haven't heard from her since, and she hasn't shown up at her job, Werner said.

"We're just hoping that she contacts us, and lets us know that she's OK," he said.

Lower Merion police are investigating her visit to the party, since Gladwyne is in the township, he said.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Sharpless or her car is asked to call West Brandywine police at 610-380-8201.

Police Continue Search for Missing W. Brandywine Woman

by KYW's Al Novack

West Brandywine, Pa. police and Chester County authorities say an all-points bulletin for a 29-year-old missing woman is still in effect.

Police say Toni Lee Sharpless remains missing and has not been heard from or seen in five days.  Sharpless, a nurse at Lancaster General Hospital, has failed to report for work.

Sharpless went missing last weekend after she went clubbing and to a Gladwynne house party. Her car, a 2002 black Pontiac Grand Prix with Pennsylvania license tag DND-7772 has not been located.

Police have spent much of the week re-tracing her possible travel route and tracking her cell phone numbers and credit card activity, if any.

So far, there are no clues and no new developments on her whereabouts. Anyone who has any information can call 911 or West Brandywine police at 610-380-8201.

Nurse at Lancaster General Hospital missing

Lancaster New Era

Media Center

Police continue to search for a 29-year-old mother and nurse at Lancaster General Hospital who has been missing since a night out with friends last Sunday in Montgomery County.

Toni Lee Sharpless, who is single and lives with her mother and 12-year-old daughter near Coatesville, has not been heard from since 3 a.m. Sunday when she text-messaged her daughter after a night of clubbing with friends.

She never returned home and, after she did not show up at work at LGH, West Brandywine Township police on Wednesday put out an all-points bulletin for the missing woman.

According to West Brandywine police Chief Walt Werner, Sharpless and a group of friends went to the Ice Nightclub in Gladwyne on Saturday night, then to a house party with people they didn't know very well, Werner said.

Sharpless left the party with a female friend, then the two got into an argument over whether Sharpless was sober enough to drive, police said.

The friend got out of the car, and Sharpless drove away in her black 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, police said. Around the same time, Sharpless sent a text message to her daughter, who was having trouble sleeping, police said.

Police have been retracing the missing woman's possible travel route and tracking her cell phone numbers and credit card activity, if any.

A West Brandywine police officer said Friday night there were no new clues in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Brandywine police at (610) 380-8201.

16 days of doubt for family of missing woman

Published: Tuesday, September 8, 2009
By Anne Pickering, Journal Register News Service

THORNDALE — The parents of a West Brandywine woman who has been missing for 16 days participated in a candlelight vigil with about 65 friends at Thorndale United Methodist Church Monday.

"It's been pure hell, the unknown," said Donna Knebel.

Her daughter, Toni Lee Sharpless, 29, a nurse at Lancaster General Hospital, disappeared Aug. 23 after leaving King of Prussia nightspot Ice and a party with a friend.

With her husband, Peter Knebel, by her side, Donna Knebel said it was unusual for her daughter not to be in contact with her.

"She's always in contact with us every day," she said. Donna Knebel said the last time she saw her daughter was about 9:30 p.m. Aug. 22.

"She came by to drop off her daughter before going out with a friend, Crystal Johns," said Peter Knebel.

Johns was someone Toni had known nine or 10 years ago, but "she didn't really socialize with her," said Peter Knebel.

Sharpless was text messaging her daughter, who is 12 years old, during the evening. The daughter was having trouble sleeping that night.

"The last text message sent from Toni's cell phone was: 'I hope you can get to sleep. See you soon. Love ya, babe,' at 2:57 a.m.," Peter Knebel said.

Johns told police that she left with Sharpless and they had an argument and Sharpless got out of the car.

"Lower Merion police confirmed the party was in a house owned by one of the Philadelphia 76ers," Knebel said. The last place Toni Sharpless was seen was in Gladwyne.

Friends of Sharpless' have been searching for her, distributing fliers and knocking on doors.

Gigi Hayes, a nurse who graduated with Sharpless from the Brandywine School of Nursing in 2007, searched the area around the Gladwyne address with other friends earlier in the day.

"We were doing a search on the street where she was last seen," said Hayes.

People in the neighborhood have been very helpful, she said. They looked within a five-mile radius for any signs of an accident but didn't find any.

Hayes said the family was getting conflicting information from the police about the events of that evening.

"We want the facts. We want information," Hayes said.

They plan to conduct another search on Sept. 11 in the City Line Avenue and Gladwyne area and invited anyone who wants to help to meet at 9 a.m. at Brandywine Hospital.

Marion Henriquez, the lay pastor of prayer at Thorndale United Methodist Church, led the candlelight vigil Monday and prayed that Sharpless is alive and would be found.

Sharpless is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs about 135 pounds and has red hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt, black tights and black sandals. She was driving a black, 2002 four-door Pontiac Grand Prix with Pennsylvania license plate number DND-7772.

Investigators urge anyone with information about the missing woman or the car she was in to call West Brandywine police at 610-380-8201.

Friends plan Friday search for missing woman

By Peter Mucha

Friends and family of Toni Lee Sharpless, still anguishing over the West Brandywine Township mother's disappearance, plan to conduct their own search for her on Friday morning.
They'll check routes the nurse might have taken after reportedly driving away from a party at a Sixers' player's house in Penn-Valley around 3 a.m. on Aug. 23.

Loved ones, including her parents and her 12-year-old daughter, have not heard from Sharpless since that night.

The case has touched many people. Last night, CNN's Nancy Grace weighed in. Monday night, more than 60 people turned out for a candlelight vigil at Thorndale United Methodist Church.

"She would not run away. Something happened. Something had to go wrong," said Jennifer Slotwinski, one of a group of nursing-school friends helping organizing the search.

They'll meet in the parking lot at Brandwine Nursing School in Coatesville at 9 a.m., then head for where Sharpless was supposedly last seen - the corner of Hagys Ford Road and Bobarn Drive in Lower Merion Township.

That's where a friend got out of Sharpless' black 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, following an argument that Sharpless was too intoxicated to drive, according to Lower Merion police three days later.

The friend, Crystal Johns of Coatesville, was also the first person to report Sharpless missing, shortly before 9 that night, according to Chief Walt Werner of West Brandywine police.

The Pontiac has Pennsylvania tags, DND-7772.

About the time that Johns left the car, the daughter, who'd been having trouble sleeping, got a text message that Sharpless was coming home.

Record checks showed no further activity on her phone or credit cards, police said.

Sharpless and her daughter lived with her parents, Donna and Peter Knebel.

Last night, he told CNN's Nancy Grace that the police haven't shared much information.

"Basically, all the information I get is from the news media," he said.

"That's terrible. That's awful," she said.

People feel the search is needed because they're dissatisfied with the police investigation, Slotwinski said.

Where Sharpless might have headed, no one can be sure, she said.

She might have gone north on River Road or Route 23, or even headed in another direction, since she needed gas, according to the friend she was with that night, Slotwinski said.

Anyone who wants to help is invited to meet up at the nursing school at 9 a.m. or at the location in Lower Merion, Slotwinski said.

The red-haired, blue-eyed Sharpless, 29, is 5-foot-5 and weighs about 135 pounds.

Lower Merion Police have not returned several phone calls over the last two days.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Sharpless or her car is asked to call Lower Merion detectives at 610-649-1000 or West Brandywine police at 610-380-8201.

Search Begins For Missing Woman
Woman, 29, Last Seen Driving Near City Line Avenue

09/10/2009

THORNDALE, Pa. - A famous search company is going over inches of ground in Lower Merion looking for missing mother Toni Lee Sharpless.

Texas EquuSearch representatives arrived on Wednesday night in Philadelphia to start the detailed search on Thursday morning.

The Sharpless case has received national attention on CNN and the Internet.

Sharpless, 29, of West Brandywine, Pa., disappeared on August 23, 2009 after leaving a party at 5 a.m.

The search will start near the Schuylkill River on Haverford Avenue in Gladwyne, Pa., the area where Sharpless was last seen.

The search team will also go through Flat Rock Park at River Road.

Sharpless is a nurse at Lancaster General Hospital and a mother of a 12-year-old girl.

Police say Sharpless disappeared near Hagys Ford Road and Bobarn Drive in Lower Merion after a friend got out of her car.

Sharpless and her car haven't been seen since, and police say her cell phone hasn’t been used.

Sharpless is 5 feet 5 inches tall, 135 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes. She was driving a black 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, license plate number DND-7772.

Texas EquuSearch has been involved the search for missing Florida child Haleigh Cummings and has found more than 300 missing people.

Family members say Sharpless went to Ice Nightclub in King of Prussia then to G Lounge in Center City. From there, police say Sharpless and a friend went to a house party in Gladwyne.

She and her friend left in the car but got into an argument. She drove away after her friend exited her car and has not been seen since.
Her parents say it has been agonizing.

"They can't find her car. They haven't seen her," says mother Donna Knebel. "Her phone, she hasn't put any calls out and none's coming in. Her bank account hasn't been touched"

"This is our daughter. I mean, just like if you were missing your daughter, I mean, it means the world to you," says father Peter Knebel. "We've never had anything like this happen in our lives, but it's awful because there has to be someone out there that knows."

Car Found in River During Massive Search for Missing Pennsylvania Mother
Thursday, September 10, 2009

A car was found in a Philadelphia river Thursday during a massive search for a missing mom who was last seen leaving a party more than two weeks ago and hasn't been heard from since.

Toni Lee Sharpless, 29, a nurse and the mother of a 12-year-old girl, vanished on Aug. 23 after leaving a party at about 5 a.m., MyFOXPhilly.com reported.

It wasn't immediately known whether the car discovered in the Schuylkill River by crews from Texas EquuSearch is hers. Dive teams were headed to the site. She was driving a black 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, license plate number DND-7772, the night she was last seen.

Sharpless, of West Brandywine, Pa., disappeared in Lower Merion after leaving a party with a friend.

The two got into an argument, and the friend got out of the car, MyFOXPhilly.com reported. Sharpless drove off and hasn't been seen since.

Sharpless' cell phone hasn't been used and investigators have thus far found no signs of her.

Her family has said she went to Ice Nightclub in King of Prussia and then to G Lounge in Philadelphia before heading to the house party in Gladwyne with her friend.

Sharpless is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, 135 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes.

Schuylkill searched for missing woman

Friday, September 11, 2009 | 6:36 PM
by Matt O'Donnell

LOWER MERION TWP., Pa. - September 11, 2009 (WPVI) -- Search crews combed the Schuylkill River looking for a car belonging to a missing woman.
A dive team from Philadelphia examined several cars found submerged near a boat launch along the Schuylkill River.

They wanted to know if any of them belong to 29-year-old Toni Lee Sharpless, a Chester County woman who has been missing for nearly three weeks.

"I know we want closure because just not knowing is very, very stressful, but at the same time, I really wish she was just okay somewhere," Toni Lee's sister Candy said.

Sharpless, of West Brandywine, was out partying with her friend, Crystal Johns, in the early morning hours of August 23.

Relatives and friends say Sharpless got into an argument at a house party in Penn Valley, took off alone in her black Grand Prix, and vanished.
Black Rock Park is near the location of the party.

"This the closest water location where a car could go into the water from where she was last seen; there's no particular indication she came down here, it's just a question we want to answer," Lt. Frank Higgins of the Lower Merion Police Department said.

Sharpless' last contact with anyone was a text message to her 12-year- old daughter, that same morning.

The girl is now staying with relatives, waiting for her mom to come home.

Dive teams took a look at several cars in the Schuylkill River, none of them belonged to Sharpless.

There are a few others they would like to take a look at.

They hope to resume their search sometime next week.

Search for missing woman yields no clues

LOWER MERION — Divers looking for the car of the missing West Brandywine woman who is feared to have accidentally gone off the road into the river came up empty-handed Wednesday.

Divers with the Philadelphia Police Marine Unit, who had searched the river in the vicinity of the boat ramp area in Flat Rock Park on Sept. 10, returned Wednesday to resume the search.

Toni Lee Sharpless, 29, a nurse and mother of a 12-year-old daughter, disappeared 25 days ago after spending the evening at two clubs and a private home. She was last in touch with her family on Aug. 23 at 2:57 a.m. when she text messsaged her daughter.

Police divers were able to remove one submerged car that had been blocking the boat ramp using a boom tow truck, said Lower Merion Township Police Lt. Frank Higgins. The car is not associated with the missing woman.

Higgins said at some later date, a dive unit with Montgomery County will attempt to bring up the rest of the cars that are farther out in the river, "but it doesn't look like any one of them would be Sharpless' car."

"It's more or less for us to investigate what cars are there," he said.

It will be difficult to remove the cars that are farther out in the river, but Higgins said the boom tow truck could possibly do it.

Two submerged objects near the boat ramp that were thought to be cars have been determined to be a large rock and a large log. Poor visibility in the river makes it difficult to identify objects.

"There could be three or maybe four cars still down there," he said.

The divers were able to get one more license plate from a submerged car but the plate is so old the state Department of Transportation will have to identify it.

Police said there are no leads in the Sharpless case.

The river being searched is only about a half-mile from the last location Sharpless was seen.

She and a friend, Crystal Johns, had gone to Ice, a King of Prussia nightclub, and then another club in the city before winding up at the Gladwyne home of a 76ers player. Johns told police she met some people at the club that she knew who invited her to the house on Bobarn Drive.

Both women had been drinking. They left together but got into an argument and Johns got out of the car.

Johns said Sharpless was low on gas.

There is an entrance ramp to Route 76 East on Hollow Road, a short distance from Bobarn Drive. There is speculation that she may have not taken the ramp, since she would have wanted to go west to West Brandywine, and ended up at Flat Rock Park.

Police say they are hampered in the search for Sharpless because they don't know what direction she went. She could have gone into Philadelphia, Conshohocken or Norristown.

Sharpless is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds with blue eyes and red hair. She was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt, black tights and black sandals. She was driving a black, 2002 four-door Pontiac Grand Prix with Pennsylvania license plate DND7772.

Anyone with information about Sharpless or the car is urged to call Lower Merion Police at 610-649-1000 or West Brandywine Police at 610-380-8201.

Friends, particularly friends who attended Brandywine School of Nursing with Sharpless, have been searching for her in the Gladwyne area. The case has been featured on CNN's Nancy Grace show. A Texas firm, Equusearch, that specializes in searching for missing people came to the county and used sonar to search the Schuylkill River, locating the vehicles.

Investigator: Missing Mom May Be Alive

Private Investigator Gives Update On GDP

A private Investigator hire by the Toni Sharpless family says the missing 29-year-old mom is still alive.

It has been over a month since Sharpless disappeared in Lower Merion Township, just outside Philadelphia.

Crews have scoured the Schuylkill River and surrounding areas in Gladwyne where Sharpless was last seen August 23rd.

Eileen Law is a Private Investigator who has been hired by the Sharpless family. She told "Good Day Philadelphia" she believes the missing woman is still alive.

Law said she has received information that Sharpless was spotted in Camden, New Jersey after she disappeared, although she is not sure she is still there.

Police say Sharpless left a Gladwyne party with a friend after an argument. and then asked the friend to get out of her car. Law said she has spent several hours with the friend and conducted a full background check and does not believe she is involved in Sharpless' disappearance.

Law believes that Sharpless may have run out of gas but strongly believes someone saw her. "I believe she is with people who don't realize Toni is missing."

Lower Merion police said last week it’s very unlikely Sharpless and her car are in the Schuylkill River in Gladwyne, Pa.

One car was found in the river and two other objects believed to be cars turned out to be rocks, police told The West Chester Daily Local.

Other cars may be in the river, but too far away from the river bank to make them likely to belong to Sharpless.

"It doesn't look like any one of them would be Sharpless' car,” police said.

The Texas Equusearch worked with local police and divers to comb the river for missing nurse and mother.

Texas Equusearch team was contacted by the family of the 29-year-old Sharpless.

Sharpless was last seen Aug. 23 after she left a party with a friend. The two had gotten into a fight about whether Sharpless was too drunk to drive.

The volunteer organization from Texas scanned the river by Flat Rock Park in Gladwyne with a sonar device last Thursday.

Sharpless is 5 feet 5 inches tall, 135 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes. She was driving a black 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, license plate number DND-7772.

Private Investigator: Missing Pennsylvania Mom Is Alive

Tuesday, September 29, 2009
MyFOXPhilly.com

A missing mom from Pennsylvania who disappeared after she left a party and argued with a friend is still alive, a private investigator said Tuesday.

Toni Sharpless, 29, vanished more than a month ago after she left a party and fought with a friend who tried to stop her from driving, saying she was too drunk.

The friend got out of the car during the Aug. 23 incident and Sharpless drove off. She hasn't been seen or heard from since.

Eileen Law, who was hired by the Sharpless family, told "Good Day Philadelphia" Tuesday that Sharpless was spotted in Camden, N.J., after she disappeared, but she doesn't know if she's still there.

"I believe she is with people who don't realize Toni is missing," Law said.

A thorough background check was done on the friend Sharpless was with when she vanished, according to Law. She said it's not likely the other woman was involved in the disappearance.

Crews have searched the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia but have found nothing connected to the case.

Sharpless is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, 135 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes. She was driving a black 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix with license plate number DND-7772.
