Circumstances of Disappearance: Lyndal was last seen by his brother in Hartford, Ky. The family suspects that he may have returned to California where he had served in the Marines. There were unconfirmed reports that he was in Owensboro, Ky. and then later Evansville, IN. There was an unsubstantiated phone message in 1982 stating that Lyndal had died in Alaska in late 1981 or early 1982.

Medical Conditions: Suffered numerous bouts of pneumonia as a child and had rheumatic fever as a teenager. Suffered numerous broken bones in automobile accidents such as a broken jaw.

Just as with the other featured persons, those in "Always Remembered" will remain on the main page for one month. Lyndal Ashby is the August 2010 Always Remembered featured missing person.

The section was created to renew awareness for the long-term missing, and we encourage our readers to take another look at the case, and place posters where appropriate. Per the family, Lyndal has been found deceased.  He was identified through family DNA submitted. Our condolences to all who love and miss him.

Lyndal B. Ashby

Family members in Kentucky have recently learned that Lyndal B. Ashby, formerly of Centertown, died in Oakland, California on April 11, 1990. This information was obtained after his brother conducted a lengthy missing persons investigation, and confirmed by DNA tests conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He had been estranged from family since 1960 and died under an assumed identity. His body was cremated and the ashes strewn on the ocean three miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge.

He was born on May 27,1938, the eldest son of the late Alfred and Lenora B. Ashby. Survivors include a brother Rickie Z. Ashby of Rockfield, Ky., two sons, Bryan and Darren of Fremont, California.

He graduated from Centertown High School, was a member of Walton’s Creek Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.

 A headstone has been erected in the Walton’s Creek Cemetery in his memory. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Walton’s Creek Cemetery fund c/o David Jones, 2931 W Star Route, Centertown, Ky. 42328
