Deejay Vanishes Without Trace

A popular deejay in Chelsea's gay nightclub scene has gone missing. Last seen on September 27th behind the decks at Splash Bar on West 17th Street, 53-year-old James Moyer (also known as DJ Jimmy) hasn't been seen, hasn't returned emails or phone calls, and hasn't been to his apartment for nearly two months.

One anonymous source tells the NY Post that he saw Moyer at Rawhide Bar on 8th Avenue the morning of October 3rd, where he was "pretty inebriated."

Moyer had been a computer programmer, and was breaking into the deejay scene — but reportedly he had fallen into debt recently, asking family for large loans and racking up $100K in cash advances on credit cards.

His Rutherford, New Jersey apartment was reportedly left spotless, with no signs that he was preparing to leave for a long period of time. An ex-boyfriend says, "Was it of his own volition? Was there foul play involved? We don't know."

The Rutherford Police Department has posted fliers around Chelsea to find leads on his whereabouts, and asks anyone with information to call Det. Mike Garner at (201) 939-6000

MANHATTAN— Two months after going missing following a nightclub gig, police continue to search for James "DJ Jimmy" Moyer, a fixture of Chelsea night life.

Moyer, 53, was last seen at Splash Bar, a dance bar for gay men, on Sept. 27. The former computer programmer stopped paying rent on the Rutherford, N.J., apartment he'd lived in for 20 years on Oct. 1, according to the New York Post.

He never returned the phone call offering him a weekly gig at the club, the Post reported.

Moyer was severely in debt, racking up over $100,000 in credit card advances, the paper said. In the weeks leading up to his disappearance, Moyer reportedly asked for loans from relatives to cover his expenses, according to the Post.

The Rutherford Police Department has posted fliers around Chelsea to find leads on his whereabouts, and asks anyone with information to call Det. Mike Garner at (201) 939-6000

Rutherford resident and well-known deejay James L. Moyer has been missing since early October and police are still unsure of his whereabouts.

Moyer, 53, is a popular deejay throughout the gay club scene of the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. He is known as “DJ Jimmy” when performing.

His last confirmed performance was at the Splash Club in New York City on Sept. 27.

Moyer’s family reported him missing after they were unable to contact him in early October, according to Mike Garner, a detective in the Rutherford Police Department. He was reportedly last seen on Oct. 6 in Rutherford.

Garner said the department’s search is not limited to Rutherford or Chelsea. “We’re looking down every avenue,” he said. Family and friends have searched Chelsea but have been unable to locate Moyer.

The department has issued missing person fliers and has posted them near Chelsea nightclubs.

Police ask anyone with information about Moyer’s whereabouts to contact Rutherford police at (201) 939-6000.
