Police seek information on missing Barrington woman

By Joey Cresta  Tuesday, December 29, 2009

BARRINGTON — Police hope the public can help provide information on the whereabouts of a local woman who has been missing since Dec. 13.

Sarah Rogers, 29, was last seen in town on Dec. 13, according to police officer Toby Perry.

Her family contacted police on that date and expressed concerns about her whereabouts. There is no indication she is in any immediate danger, but Perry said police hope the public can assist in making sure Rogers is OK.

"We have no idea where she is," Perry said. He said police have followed some leads and her vehicle was found in Clinton, Maine, near Waterville. Her car had gone off the road on Interstate 95 and Perry said there were tire tracks at the scene indicating she may have gotten into another vehicle that headed south on I-95.

He stressed that, as a 29-year-old, Rogers has no obligation to keep her family abreast of her whereabouts. Family and police simply want to make sure she is safe, he said, adding Rogers is welcome to call police herself to confirm her condition.

Perry could not say what the circumstances were leading up to her disappearance.

Rogers is described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 110 pounds with blonde hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information that may assist police in this investigation is asked to call Barrington police at 603-664-2700.

Missing NH woman sought; car found in Maine
12/29/2009

BARRINGTON – Police here and in Maine are searching for a woman who family members reported missing more than two weeks ago.

Sarah Rogers, 29, was last seen by her husband the morning of Dec. 13 when she left their house off of Route 4, Barrington police officer Toby Perry said Tuesday.

"Since then she hasn't been seen or heard from again," he said.

Her car, a Scion xB, was found later that night in Clinton, Maine after it apparently went off the left side of Interstate 95 northbound amid snow, Perry said. It's unclear where she was going and whether she may have been passing through Clinton.

Tracks from the car led across the highway's median to the southbound lanes, Perry said, and police believe she may have caught a ride from a passing motorist. The car was not damaged and has since been towed to her house in Barrington.

Rogers has not contacted any family since Dec. 13 and there has been no activity on her credit and bank cards, Perry said. She was reported missing the same day she left home, he said.

Perry was vague about the circumstances of Rogers' disappearance and what happened just before she left, other than that there were "underlying issues."

"Her family is just trying to make sure she's safe," he said, noting she has a husband and a young child.

Clinton, Maine police officer Jeff Belanger said Tuesday that authorities there are also searching for Rogers, but so far have no leads.

"We don't know anybody here that she may have known," he said.

Belanger said police do not suspect foul play.

Rogers is described as 5-foot-8, weighing 110 lbs. with blond hair and hazel eyes. A photo of her is below.

Anyone with information is asked to call Barrington police at 603-664-2700.

No new developments in case of missing Barrington woman

By Joey Cresta  Thursday, December 31, 2009

BARRINGTON — Police say there are no new developments in the disappearance of a 29-year-old local woman.

Officer Toby Perry said the only call the department has received regarding the disappearance of Sarah Rogers was from "Good Morning America." Rogers was reported missing on Dec. 13 by her husband, Perry said.

Rogers and her husband have a child and live off Route 4, Perry said. He would not comment on the circumstances leading up to her disappearance. He also would not identify her husband.

Her car, a Scion xB, was located the night of her disappearance on Interstate 95 in Clinton, Maine. It had gone off the road while heading north. There were footprints in the snow suggesting Rogers crossed the median toward the southbound lane.

From there, Perry said it would be "complete speculation" where she went. She may have gotten into another vehicle or could have headed into the nearby woods, he said. "There's no particular reason why her car was up there," Perry said.

Police have checked into Rogers' credit cards and bank account, but there has been no recent activity on those, Perry said. She also did not bring her cell phone with her when she left on Dec. 13, he said.

Perry said police do not consider her disappearance suspicious. He said they would have to receive more evidence before considering foul play. He said that, though most people "don't even buy a coffee at Dunkin' Donuts" with cash anymore, she may have some money on her that she has been using.

Anyone who has information on Rogers' whereabouts is asked to call Barrington police at 664-7679.

Barrington woman was having 'manic breakdown' before recent disappearance, father says

By Joey Cresta
Tuesday, January 12, 2010

BARRINGTON — The family of the local woman missing since her car was found on Interstate 95 in Maine on Dec. 13 is concerned because she is bipolar and has gone missing before for short periods of time.

Local and Maine state police have been investigating the disappearance of 29-year-old Sarah Rogers since her car, a Scion xB, was found off the road and into the median along the northbound lane of Interstate 95 in Clinton, Maine.

On Monday, Sarah's father, Bob Rogers of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., told Foster's Daily Democrat this is not the first time his daughter has disappeared in such a way.

In March 2008, while living in Florida, Sarah Rogers got into a car and drove off, he said. She abandoned the car but police were able to locate her within a day or two, he said.

Barrington police said there was a trail of footprints in Clinton that led from Sarah Rogers' vehicle across the median to the southbound lane.

From there, police do not know where she went.

Bob Rogers said police have received some information about possible sightings and may be looking at surveillance footage from some stores to see if they can determine where Sarah Rogers went, but he has yet to hear an update on the investigation.

Bob Rogers and the rest of the family have been investigating her disappearance on their own as well. He said they have hired three private investigators licensed in three separate states to look into her whereabouts.

Rogers revealed much of what's known about his daughter's disappearance. He said Sarah's husband, Fritz Coulombe, called him using Sarah's cell phone at 9:11 a.m. on Dec. 13 because she was having a breakdown. Rogers said he had spoken with Sarah earlier in the week and could tell she was having a "manic breakdown." He said Sarah Rogers has bipolar disorder and suspects she was off her medication. When she does not take her medication she is prone to bouts of paranoia and a tendency to wander. She can get delusional and exhibit strange behavior, he said.

"She could be a danger to herself or others," he said.

Bob Rogers and Coulombe spoke on the phone for four minutes and at 9:19 a.m. Coulombe called 911. Rogers said he reviewed cell phone records, hence his knowledge of the exact times. At some point during the phone calls, Rogers said, Sarah left her husband and son at their Barrington home off Route 4.

"Her cell phone was in his possession at all times," Bob Rogers said, refuting reports by some media outlets that her phone was found in her vehicle.

After leaving Barrington, records show that Sarah Rogers drove through the toll plaza in Gardiner, Maine, heading north at 12:56 p.m. She then went through the same toll plaza heading south at 3:57 p.m. and went through heading north again at 5:07 p.m., Bob Rogers said.

Her car was then found between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. along the side of the road in Clinton, about 35 miles away from the toll plaza, he said. He said the car was located near mile marker 140.5 about 10 feet off the road. The car was still in drive and the engine was running, he said.

"She was in a state of confusion," he said.

Police have searched the area around her car but found few clues. Along with the footprints, Rogers said his daughter's large purse was found in the snow 15 to 20 feet from the vehicle, but a smaller purse containing her identification was not with it.

"It gives me some cold comfort that she didn't just lie down in the snow," he said.

Rogers expressed concern that Sarah Rogers left her home wearing only shorts, a tank top and a "spring-type jacket." She may have had other clothes in her car but "she didn't really take her warm clothes," he said.

Bob Rogers said the family can think of no connection that would lead his daughter up Maine, adding he is not sure Sarah knew where she was going either.

"I have no theories," he said. "She could be anywhere in four states."

Police have said it is possible Sarah Rogers hitched a ride with someone heading south on Interstate 95. That remains only a theory until there is more concrete information. Police in Barrington have said they would also need more information to consider her disappearance suspicious.

Bob Rogers said his daughter's behavior due to bipolar disorder is only part of her identity. She is also artistically-inclined, the daughter of accomplished artist Ora Sorensen, and has played guitar at local coffee houses, he said.

"But she can become very sensitive and paranoid," he said.

He last visited Sarah Rogers in September. He said he was very pleased with how she was doing at that time. Due to her condition, she attended school only sporadically but was attempting to get back into the University of New Hampshire, he said. It looked as though her life was stabilizing and she had a loving relationship with her son, he said.

"She seemed to have things under control," he said.

If anyone has seen Sarah Rogers or has information on her whereabouts, Bob Rogers hopes they contact police.

"She's somewhat in crisis and in danger. Her family needs her," he said.

On Sunday night, organizers held a vigil in Portland, Maine's Monument Square for Sarah Rogers. Her father said he appreciated the gesture and hopes it leads to information about her disappearance.

Still no clues to woman's whereabouts

By NANCY WEST
New Hampshire Sunday News
2/7/2010

Sarah Rogers disappeared eight weeks ago today after racing out of the Barrington home she shares with her husband and toddler son. Her car was later found abandoned in the snow about 140 miles away in Clinton, Maine, the engine still running .

Rogers, 29, described by family as a talented artist, brilliant musician and loving mother, didn't come home for Christmas with her son, Elias. She never called, either.

The young mother, who had battled bipolar disorder since college and apparently was in a manic state at the time of her disappearance, also missed Elias' second birthday Jan. 27.

And still no word.

No bank-card activity, no sightings, no contact with any of the many people who love her, according to her father, Bob Rogers, a Florida attorney who has hired three private investigators to help find Sarah.

"It's horrible, the not knowing," said Rogers, who spoke on behalf of the family.

But yesterday offered some cause for hope, after a Maine State Police search of the area where Sarah Rogers' car was found indicated that she had not wandered into the woods, as her father had feared.

Police conducted the search with the VK9 Scent Specific Search and Recovery tandem of Julie Jones and her yellow Labrador retriever, Quincy. Using a pair of Sarah's leather pants, Quincy was able to track the missing women's movements that day, Jones said. Quincy was able to show Rogers crossed the median and the southbound lane of Interstate 95 and walked south for a bit, without entering the woods.

"What that told me is, Sarah got in a vehicle," Jones said.

Bob Rogers said that makes it all the more important to find out what happened as soon as possible.

"This gives me hope," he said, that his daughter is still alive.

Disturbing behavior

Rogers said he spoke with his daughter during the week before she left home and could tell her mental state was deteriorating. She had stopped taking the medication that helped her control her bipolar disorder, her father said.

"She was talking faster and faster, not always making sense, starting to become more emotional," he said.

Her blue Scion xB was tagged the day she left home, Dec. 13, 2009, first going north on I-95 through the Gardiner, Maine, toll plaza at about 1 p.m., then south at about 4 p.m., then north again at 5:07 p.m. Her car was found in Clinton, Maine, at about 6:15 p.m., Rogers said.

Her car was parked 10 feet into the median with the engine still running. The car was still in drive, the driver's side door left open.

Rogers' large purse was found 10 feet from the car, but her smaller purse with her bank cards and identification was missing. She had left her cell phone at home as she hastily left home that morning.

Footprints in the snow led across the median, then vanished, Bob Rogers said.

Sarah's condition could leave her mind racing or she could become catatonic and just lie down on the ground, he said.

Stephen McCausland, spokesman for Maine State Police, confirmed there hasn't been a clue as to Sarah's whereabouts.

"She ... just disappeared into thin air," McCausland said.

Maine State Police have conducted several searches where her car was found, all to no avail, McCausland said. There is no reason to suspect foul play, but police can't rule anything out because they don't know what happened to her, McCausland said.

"There are a thousand different scenarios," Bob Rogers said. "Could she have met with foul play? Sure. She could have hitched a ride with a bad guy."

Talented and troubled

Originally from south Florida, Sarah grew up living with her mother, nationally known artist Ora Sorensen, Bob Rogers said. Sarah sometimes worked in her mother's Delray Beach gallery and had sold some of her own paintings as well, Rogers said.

Sorensen described her daughter as "very brilliant -- beyond brilliant. She wrote music and was an amazing guitar player.

"She's very, very loved and missed. Our family is devastated and heartbroken, and we hope we see her soon," Sorenson said. "There are many people who love her."

Rogers said he always tried to stay close to his daughter even after he and her mother divorced when she was 2.

Sarah, a rebellious teenager, had a major breakdown when she was a student at Palm Beach Community College, he said. She was hospitalized after she was found wandering the streets.

On Dec. 13, 2009, Sarah's husband, Fritz Coulombe, called Rogers' wife, Marguerite, to see if she could calm Sarah down. She couldn't.

Coulombe called 911. While he was on the phone, Sarah, still agitated, took off in her car at about 9:20 a.m., Rogers said.

No one knows why she headed north, Rogers said. The family knows of no friends in Maine.

He hopes to spark memories. Perhaps someone saw her car that day, or saw Sarah and may have clues as to what happened to her. He asked anyone with information call Barrington police or Maine State Police.

Sarah is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 110 pounds, with blonde hair and hazel eyes.

After she and her family moved to Barrington, where her husband has family, she sang in coffees houses and planned to give guitar lessons.

She had left home several times before her disappearance, but she was found within a few days and hospitalized on each of those occasions. Police have said she used an alias, Marla Moon, but Rogers said she used that name only once, while hospitalized in a manic state.

Last September, when Rogers visited his daughter, son-in-law and grandson in Barrington, Sarah was thriving, he said. She was talking about continuing her college education at the University of New Hampshire.

And, her father said, she was enjoying motherhood.

"She seemed to be stabilized. Her life was getting on track," Rogers said.

He proudly watched mother and son play together. She was not the kind of mom who would have voluntarily missed Christmas and her son's birthday, he said.

"We went to the park with a big ball to kick around," he recalled. "She's a good mom."

Where to call

Anyone with information that may assist in the search for Sarah Rogers is asked to call Barrington police or Maine State Police.

What happened to Sarah Rogers?

Sarah Rogers is an artist and musician.

Sarah Rogers left her home in Barrington, N.H, on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, and hasn't been seen since.

Mysteriously, her car was found several hours later, 153 miles away, abandoned with its engine running, on the median of Route 95 in Maine. A foot of snow was already on the ground, and a snowstorm was dumping more that would double that in the next several hours.

A tow truck driver spotted the car and thought it was odd the keys were in the ignition, the dome light was on and the driver nowhere to be found. He called the State Police, and they noted a single set of footprints leading from the car.

Searchers have been unable to find any trace of Sarah.
She has missed her son's second birthday and Christmas.

Sarah's 2-year-old son calls for her walking throughout his house saying, "mommy, mommy." He runs to the door with one of her purses and a set of toy keys to perform his own search for his mother.

Her family says she’s a talented artist and musician with a kind heart. Her guitar was a prized possession and was found in her car.

"Most days I have to push away a profound and overwhelming sense of sadness,” Sarah’s father said. “It  is very frustrating that as a lawyer I am able to help others -- yet in this situation, I don't know how to help my daughter."

Please, on behalf of Sarah's family, help America's Most Wanted find her and call 1-800-CRIME-TV if you have any helpful information. Remember, you can remain anonymous.

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MISSING WOMAN SARAH ROGERS, 29 ?

Sarah Rogers is 29 years old. She fled her NH home in a manic state on December 13, 2009.  She has both bipolar and schizophrenia illnesses.  She is a fantastic painter and guitarist.  She really felt taking her meds was inhibiting her painting. Her husband also stated that she actually painted better w/o the meds…however, knowing how she would become extremely paranoid and manic he would do all he could to make her take her meds. She went off them three weeks prior to her disappearance on Dec 13, 2009.  His family was with him in his home as they tried to calm her down. She overheard him talking with her father on the phone and understood that he would try and have her committed and forced to take her meds…so she fled.  She drove aimlessly through turnpike toll booths in Maine on I95. 2 ˝ hours away from her home. (This was found as she was going through toll booths without the EZPass in the FastLane.

Troopers stated that footprints led from the vehicle across the media to the southbound lane on I95 and stopped. They are assuming she received a ride from a passerby. However, she has never been seen since. Only local media has covered her story.  Unfortunately, she could be anywhere in the USA- in any city if a trucker picked her up. We don’t even know if the “Good Sam” who may have picked her up is a good person.

She did this huge circling going northbound for many miles, turning and going southbound on I95 and again northbound on I95.  Around the 140.5 mile marker her vehicle slid off the road, during a snowfall, and was stuck in the median snow bank.  Her door was open, dome light on and vehicle in gear.  Her backpack/purse was found 30 feet from the vehicle in the snow. The Maine State Troopers came to her vehicle after a tow truck driver spotted it and called it in.  This was at 6:15 pm on Dec 13, 2009. The same eve as the morning she left.
If you recall seeing Ms. Rogers, or gave her a ride that day...please make contact.

Family announces reward for information about missing daughter

Tim Goff, Multimedia Journalist     February 24, 2010

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The family of Sarah Rogers, who has been missing since early December, has announced a reward for information which leads them to her.

Sarah Rogers jumped into her car and took off from her home in Barrington, New Hampshire on the morning of December 13th.  Her husband called police to report her as a missing and endangered person almost immediately because she suffers from bi-polar disorder and was in a manic state.

Her car was found in the median of I-95 in Clinton, Maine over 150 miles away.  She had a minor accident in a snow storm and left her car with her keys in it and walked away.  A tow truck driver spotted the car and called State Police to investigate.  Police looked for Rogers, but did not find her.  Footprints in the snow ended in the southbound lanes.

In January, Roger's father and mother-in-law traveled to Maine to meet with police and assist in a search for Sarah.  The search involved numerous State Police officers walking the area where her car was found with cadaver dogs and Maine Game Wardens searching near-by fields and power line right of way's on snowmobile.  They did not find any clues as to where she disappeared.

Tuesday, the family announced a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the safe return of Sarah.  If you have any information which could assist the family and law enforcement in finding her, you are asked to call 1-800-422-0944.
