Authorities searching for MoCo man missing in Yellowstone
By: Emily Babay Examiner Staff Writer October 5, 2010
Authorities are searching for a Montgomery County man who has gone missing at Yellowstone National Park.
Park rangers are looking for Stuart Isaac, 48, of Burtonsville.
His vehicle, a black 2009 Lexus IS-250 sedan, was found abandoned during a routine patrol of a parking area on the evening of Sept. 26, according to the National Park Service.
Repeated ground and air searches over the past week have not led to any clues about Isaac's location.
Isaac was reportedly on a cross-country road trip, the park service said. His vehicle was found at Craig Pass, which is located about eight miles east of Old Faithful on the park's Grand Loop Road.
This is only the second long-term search for a visitor this year ay Yellowstone, said park spokesman Al Nash.
Peter Louis Kastner, 25, of Oklahoma City, was reported missing at Yellowstone in May. A group of researchers found his body in July, at a site far from established trails, according to the park service.
An autopsy showed that Kastner died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Most people reported missing at the park return a few hours later than expected and do not need to be rescued, Nash said.
Isaac is described as about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 215 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He also has tattoos on his shoulder blades and his right triceps.
Anyone who has information about Isaac is asked to call Yellowstone's communications center at 307-344-7381.

Maryland man missing, car found in Yellowstone
October 5, 2010 - 12:32pm
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. - A search is underway in Yellowstone National Park for a Maryland man who has been reported missing.
Authorities say 48-year-old Stuart Isaac of Burtonsville, Md., was reportedly on a cross country trip.
His black 2009 Lexus sedan was found Sunday evening, Sept. 26, at Craig Pass along the section of the Grand Loop Road linking Old Faithful and West Thumb.
The car was found in an area with no hiking trails.
"This is high elevation and very rugged terrain and in speaking with his family, he has little to no experience hiking, camping or backpacking," Yellowstone National Park spokesman Al Nash says.
Repeated searches from the ground and air have failed to locate Isaac.
"We've been in the area with people on the ground, with dog teams. We've searched from the air, and we do not have any clues about Mr. Isaac's whereabouts," Nash says.
He is 5 feet, 8-inches tall with black hair, brown eyes and tattoos on his shoulder blades and right triceps.

Missing Burtonsville Man Stumps Yellowstone Authorities
One official said that the detective's search for Stuart Isaac has come up empty.

Initial searches for the Burtonsville man who was reported missing in Yellowstone National Park in September have not turned up substantive evidence, according to officials at the park.
Stuart Isaac, 48, was reported missing on Sept. 26. His car, a 2009 Lexus IS-250 sedan, was discovered during a routine patrol of the area. The park asked the public for help with information on Isaac's whereabouts in early October.
"Typical investigations involve people who turn up later than expected," said Al Nash, public relations officer for Yellowstone. "Very rarely is the person actually lost or too injured to leave the park."
However, in the case of Isaac, no new clues or information have surfaced since that initial investigation, said Nash. Authorities have contacted local law enforcement for information on Isaac's credit card and cell phone usage, as well as where he may have been headed.
Still, Nash said that there is "nothing simple, obvious or easy at this point in our investigation."
Meanwhile, friends and family in Isaac's native Republic of Palau are concerned.
One of Isaac's former high school classmates, Matsue Evans, said that their last encounter, a two-hour phone call during which Isaac said he was on his way to Yellowstone, was "kind of odd."
"I was kind of surprised to hear from him because he seldomly calls," Evans told Patch. "We text each other and we do email. Now I know that he's missing, why would he call me two days before something happened?"
Evans remembers the call being placed on Sept. 24 around 6:30 p.m. her time in Guam, which would have been about 3:30 a.m. in Maryland.
The island where Evans and Isaac grew up, Palau, is small and word travels fast. Evans, who has spoken to some of Isaac's family members, but no one in his immediate family, says that his friends and family have been worried since they heard he was missing around Oct. 17.
The Republic of Palau's ambassador to the United States, Hersey Kyota, has been in contact with Isaac's immediate family, which includes a teenaged son who lives in Burtonsville. Kyota was not available for comment.
Evans, who lost touch with her friend until about five years ago, said that her attempts to get information from Yellowstone, or anyone else, have come up short.
"My intention is to find him and bring him home safe," Evans wrote in an email.
