Profile emerges of baby's abductor ,Likely a woman faking pregnancy

Date: March 17, 1993 Publication: The Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta Constitution

Investigators believe a woman who may have faked a pregnancy took 1-month-old Tavish Sutton from Grady Memorial Hospital because she desperately needed a baby to mend a broken relationship.

Officials said 65 percent of the babies abducted from hospitals are returned within two days, with 95 percent returned within a week.

Today marks the eighth day since Tavish disappeared from the pediatric ward where he was recuperating from minor surgery.

Child still missing: Years later, there's little to go on
Date: January 3, 1998 Publication: The Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta Constitution

Nearly five years after a month-old baby was abducted from Grady Memorial Hospital, police are hoping that a composite photograph of what the child might look like now will lead them to him.

The photo, released Friday, was developed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children using photographs of the boy's three siblings.

Tavish Sutton was recovering from minor surgery at Grady's Hughes Spalding ped iatric unit when he was abducted on March 9, 1993.

Child abducted from Grady in 1993 still missing

10:44 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012
By Mike Morris
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Wednesday’s attempted abduction of a baby from Southern Regional Medical Center had a good ending when an alarm system and hospital employees thwarted the kidnapping, but that wasn’t the case nearly 19 years ago when 1-month-old Tavish Sutton was taken from a downtown Atlanta hospital.

Despite a $10,000 reward and hundreds of interviews by Atlanta police and the FBI, Tavish, who was recovering from minor surgery when he was abducted from Grady Memorial Hospital’s Hughes Spalding pediatric unit on March 9, 1993, was never found.

“We never really had any good information,” Atlanta police Det. Sheila Cumberworth told the AJC in 1998.

Tavish was in the custody of Family and Children Services when he disappeared.
