Authorities searching for Roy Oneal Smith in Lonsdale

LONSDALE, Ark. (KTHV) - The search continues for a Hot Spring County man.

"We have both helicopters in the air and we have mounted patrol officers," said Lt. James Martin of Garland County on Tuesday.

Authorities say they are looking for Roy Oneal Smith, 25, of Malvern.  Officers say he was last seen by his girlfriend July 27.

Police say Smith's girlfriend informed his mother of his disappearance Sunday.  It was then, investigators say, that the mother filed a missing person's report.

Smith is said to have been in the Lonsdale area riding four-wheelers with friends when he took off into the woods on his own.

"That's unknown." said Lt. Martin, referring to a possible reason why Smith headed in a different direction.

Investigators with Garland County and Hot Spring Sheriff's Offices spent Monday searching for Smith in the wooded area where he was last seen. The search was picked up Tuesday with help from the Arkansas State Police and their helicopter.

As of Wednesday afternoon, authorities say they're still searching for Smith.  They tell us that they cannot comment as to whether foul play is involved.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Roy, please call the Garland County Sheriff's Office at (501) 622-3660.

The Garland County Sheriff's department is asking for your help in finding 25-year-old Roy Smith.

Smith was last seen by his girlfriend in the Lonsdale area while riding 4-wheelers with friends on July 27. His girlfriend told police he took off on his own into the woods and hasn't been seen since.

The area is about 17 miles east of Hot Springs and about 40 miles southwest of Little Rock.

Authorities have not ruled out foul play.

If you know where Smith is, you're asked to call the Garland County Sheriff's Office at 501-622-3660.

Man missing for 9 days before report filed

Updated: 8/08 8:36 am Published: 8/07 10:07 pm

LONSDALE, AR – Crews spend their second full day searching the woods near Lonsdale in Garland County, looking for missing 25-year-old Roy Smith.

The Garland County Sheriff’s Department says Smith was last seen riding a 4-wheeler with his friends on July 27th. However, a missing persons report wasn’t filed until 9 days later, leaving search crews without any solid leads.

In addition to the late start, the sheriff’s department says conflicting reports from witnesses are not helping either.

Sheriff’s deputies say Smith’s mother filed the report when she learned her son was no longer with his girlfriend. It is not know why his girlfriend and the friends who when 4-wheeleing with Smith did not report anything.

The search will continue Wednesday. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Smith, please call the Garland County Sheriff's Office at 501-622-3660.
