Search Continues For Missing Father From O.C.

(CBS) FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. An all-out search began Friday for a Sunday school teacher, golf club designer, and father of four who has not been seen since he left his Foothill Ranch apartment on Tuesday, authorities said.

David Douglas Boone, 56, lives at 26322 Towne Centre Drive with his 17-year-old son, and his disappearance is "totally out of character," said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Bloodhounds taken to Boone's apartment traced his scent to nearby Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, a stomping ground for hiking and biking, according to family members.

Boone disappeared without taking his credit or identity cards, cash, cell phone or vehicle, authorities said.

A missing person's report was filed on Wednesday.

"He's an adult and (authorities) didn't see the urgency (to look for him) until now," Amormino said.

Adam Boone told KCAL9 that he and his brothers have been looking for their father since Tuesday.

When authorities brought a bloodhound to the apartment today, the dog had an immediate reaction, Adam Boone said.

"The bloodhound picked up his scent pretty quickly, once we left the apartment," Adam Boone said. "He went straight to Whiting Wilderness Ranch, which is an area we all mountain bike and he hikes a lot."

The whereabouts of golf club designer David Douglas Boone, who disappeared three months ago today, remain a mystery.

The Foothill Ranch man, 56, was last seen at the condo he had been sharing with his 17-year-old son while going through a divorce. A search of the nearby Whiting Ranch, where Boone liked to hike, was conducted by deputies “ assisted by bloodhounds and a helicopter“ but turned up nothing at the time.

Anyone with information about Boone is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 714-647-7055.
