Distinguishing features: Birthmark on her chin that is slightly darker than her skin, and she has no teeth, or dentures. Her fingers between her index and middle finger on her right hand are stained yellow from cigarettes. She is right handed.

Eyewear: Wears glasses, but they aren't with her.

Health: Poor. Has emphysema and a lot of trouble breathing. Was actually on oxygen and coughed a lot. Also is Bipolar and Paranoid Schizophrenic.

Circumstances of Disappearance:Went for a walk to the store (unable to drive) nearby her home. She never came home. Her purse was found about 10 miles from her home at the edge of the river. Some have thought they had seen her in the New Providence area of Clarksville TN. Is believed to have gotten in the car with someone.

Woman Missing For Two Weeks

It's been more than two weeks since a disabled Clarksville woman was last seen by her friends.

The woman, Mary Alice Cox, 54, was last seen on March 20.

There was no trace of Cox until last week. “Tuesday night I got a phone call - this woman's husband out on the river found Mary's purse floating on bank," said Lillie Brindley, Cox's housemate.

The purse was found 10 miles away from her home.

Cox is mentally challenged, diagnosed as bipolar and suffers from emphysema, friends said.

Her friends said police waited too long to inform the public she was missing. Police investigators said they don't suspect foul play.

Anyone with information on Cox's location should call Clarksville police at 931-645-TIPS.

City police search for missing woman

Clarksville police are investigating the disappearance of a Clarksville woman, missing since March 25.

Sheriff deputies found a purse belonging to Mary Alice Cox, of the Bel Air subdivision, in a rural area of Montgomery County several days after her disappearance, according to a news release prepared by Detective Vince Lewis of CPD's public information office.

Friends and family have not had contact with Cox since March 20, Lewis wrote.

Cox is 5'1" tall and weighs about 100 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes.

Clarksville police ask anyone who might have seen Cox or knows of her whereabouts to call Detective Ronald Parrish at 648-0656, ext. 1009, or 645-TIPS.

Daughter Still Believes Missing Mom Is Alive

The daughter of a 57-year-old Clarksville woman is asking for the public’s help to find her missing mother.

Connie Mullins said she believes that her mother, Mary Alice Cox, is still alive even though she’s been missing for than a year.

Cox, who lived at a group home in Clarksville, was reported missing in March 2004.

Police said they believe she is still alive.

Cox suffers from bipolar disorder.

Cox’s daughter said she believes Cox went off her medication before she disappeared.

Cox’s purse was found last year on a riverbank in rural Montgomery County. There have been two sightings of Cox in the last year.

“I just want to know that she’s okay,†Mullins said.

Anyone with information on Cox’s whereabouts should call the Clarksville Police Department at 931-645-TIPS.

Police look for missing woman

Mary Alice Cox disappeared one year ago

Mary Alice Cox had disappeared a couple of times before. Police picked her up and brought her back home.

But in March 2004, Cox - who police and her daughter say has bipolar disorder, meaning her moods can shift dramatically - left the group home where she lived on Vivian Drive and has not returned.

Police hope anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts will contact them.

"She has needed help getting home before, and she just may need help again," Clarksville Police Department Detective Ronald Parrish said at a press conference Friday, noting that she could be in Clarksville or in Nashville, where she has family.

"I still believe Ms. Cox is around here somewhere."

Parrish said he does not suspect foul play. Twice in the past year, people have reported seeing her in July in New Providence, and in January at her former Vivian Drive residence, the detective said.

Cox is described as being 5 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 100 pounds. She has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Authorities found a purse belonging to Cox on a river bank in a rural area of Montgomery County several days after her March 20, 2004, disappearance.

Her daughter, Connie Mullins, said she talked to Cooper the day she went missing.

"I could tell that she had gone off her medication for bipolar," Mullins said. "I could tell that something was not right."

Mullins said she was living in Florida at the time, making plans to move to Tennessee. She said her mother, upon learning of the impending move, may have been "afraid of being a burden."

"I tried to reassure her, but with her not being on her medication, I'm not sure she understood," she said.

Parrish said Cox also requires medicine for emphysema and other maladies.

"That's one reason we really want to get her back home," he said.

Medical Conditions: Cox is mentally challenged. She has emphysema, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. She was supposed to take medication to control her conditions but may have gone off it shortly before she disappeared. She is classified as disabled.

Details of Disappearance

Cox was last seen in Clarksville, Tennessee on March 20, 2004, when she left her residence to walk to a nearby store. She was living in a group home in the 100 block of Vivian Drive in that city at the time of her disappearance. She has never been heard from again. She had disappeared a few times before, but was brought back by the police. On March 23, three days after Cox was last seen, her purse was found on a riverbank in a rural area about ten miles from where she lived. There was no sign of her at the scene.

Authorities do not suspect foul play in Cox's disappearance. There have been unconfirmed sightings in the New Providence section of Clarksville and at her former home on Vivian Drive since her disappearance. She could still be in the local area or in Nashville, Tennessee, where she has relatives. Her case remains unsolved.
