Man seeks missing daughter
Woman disappeared May 24 in Mississippi

June 17, 2005

A Slidell man is seeking the public's help in finding his 19-year-old daughter, who disappeared May 24 in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Though police told him that Asia Nicole Martin may have run away, Glenn Carter fears the worst.

"At this point, I do believe that she's hurt and that something worse could have happened to her," Carter said. "But we have to do everything to get the word out."

Carter, who lives on Westlawn Drive, said his daughter was last seen taking an afternoon walk from her Hattiesburg apartment May 24. Martin's roommate at her Robinson Place Apartment didn't sense anything strange that day, Carter said.

Police were contacted after Martin failed to show up in Denver on Memorial Day weekend to visit her mother, Carter said.

He doesn't think his daughter ran away. Martin would have called him, her mother or her sister, who also lives in Slidell, Carter said. Martin has a loving family to whom she can turn for anything, he said.

While in her mid-teens, Martin came to Slidell to live with her father. She attended Slidell High School before moving in 2003 to Mississippi, where she graduated from Petal High School near Hattiesburg, Carter said.

Martin was attending Pearl River Community College but sat out this year's spring semester to help her mother, who was sick.

Anyone with information can call Metro Crime Stoppers in Hattiesburg at (601) 582-STOP or Detective Sgt. Terrell Carson at (601) 544-7900.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Asia Nicole Martin was a typical 19-year-old. A graduate from Petal High School, ;looking forward to a bright future.

Her father, Glenn Carter, who lives in Louisiana, describes her as a beautiful young lady.

"She was an out going person, young girl, ambitious," he said.

Asia was attending Pearl River Community College. Her mom was from Petal, but moved to Colorado.

"She had taken some time off to got to Denver to help her mom who was sick," he said.

Her dad said she returned to the region when her mom got well. Carter said Asia's mom was planning on moving back to the Pine Belt and that Asia was going to help her.

"Her mom sent her money for a bus ticket that Asia purchased, but never used," he said.

May 27th, 2005 was the last time anyone from her family heard from her. A few days later, she was reported missing.

Lt. Branden McLemore said the Hattiesburg Police Department has tried solving this case for over eight years. But their efforts have met with a dead end.

"The case has been passed down over there years and there was no where else to turn, there were no other avenues," McLemore said. "We do know that on that particular bus she was not on it. "It was also proven that she never left Hattiesburg."

Asia's mom passed away two years ago .The rest of her family wants answers.

"I have fear that the worst has happened," said Carter.

"The just want to know where she is, and if she's okay, and if not what happened," McLemore said.

"We need closure ," said Asia's dad.

Even though its been eight years, Lt. McLemore is still hopeful he can find closure Asia's family.

"We don't ever give up until the story is closed," said McLemore.

Anyone with information can call Metro Crime Stoppers in Hattiesburg at (601) 582-STOP or Detective Sgt. Terrell Carson at (601) 544-7900.
