John Victor Dial

15-Nov-05

This story is about my uncle John Victor Dial that has been missing since July 1, 1966 he went into the Air Force at the tender age of 16 which my grandparents agreed to let him go and they signed the papers and regretted it they both died in the late 1980's not knowing what happened to their son. Uncle John was this careing, loving man is what I was told and he was funny and from what I was told that he loved his family and all his neices and nephews and a cousin told me she remembers him visiting her she was about 8 years old at the time and he put her up on his shoulders and she wore his Air Force cap and he told her he would be back for a visit he was stationed at Howard AFB Panama Canal Zone he came home for a visit May 1966 and he had married Elsa (Caballero) Dial from Panama her family was from around Panama City after about a month all contact stopped and days, months, and years went by. My grandparents never filed a police report and I don't know why not the only answer I came up with is because he was in the military and living oversea's and did not know the process and why the remaining brother's or sister's did not file it I just think they honestly did not know over the years several family members tried to find him including my mother in the 1970's she wrote several government agencies and finally it had drained her so she gave up and in those days everything was done by MAIL and was much slower that was before computers the last time my mother saw her brother was 1963 I was a 3 month old baby.
