Woman, 26, still missing after one year

Posted: Sunday, August 8, 2010 6:00 am | Updated: 10:52 pm, Sat Aug 7, 2010.

Authorities are still searching for a 26-year-old woman who has been missing for a year.

On Saturday, the Sumter County Sheriff's Office said in a press release that the case of Stacy Renee Lester was mistakenly closed due to a miscommunication, as it was thought she had returned.

Her 50-year-old mother advised law enforcement that Stacy Lester has not been heard from since Aug. 9, 2009, and was last seen at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She is described as white, 5 feet 7 inches and 130 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

If anyone has any information on her, please contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Office at (803) 436-2700 or Crime Stoppers at (803) 436-2718.

Mother of missing Sumter woman continues the search for her daughter

10/2/2010

SUMTER, SC (WACH) -- Ruby Lester last saw her daughter, Stacy Lester, the last week of July, 2009.  Since then, Lester and her family have been on an ongoing search to find Stacy. Saturday, she headed to Swan Lake Garden in Sumter to distribute information about Stacy's disappearance.

Since Stacy went missing without a trace, Ruby's family members encouraged her to start a group on Facebook.  The group page, Help Find Stacy Renee Lester, gained 474 members in just six months.  Lester says it's been beneficial in getting the word out about her daughter. "It's reaching four hundred more people who didn't know about Stacy," she said.

The Facebook group was encouraged to come to the garden to pick-up posters to distribute in their neighborhood.  Lester says a group member came all the way from Charleston just to pick up posters.  She says he also suggested another way to help spread the word. "He suggested we attach information to balloons and release them in the air," she said.

Lester says she hopes the floating fliers will help bring Stacy home. "Not knowing where she is, it affects me almost on a daily basis and I, I'm surprised about that sometimes," she said.

Stacy is described as a Caucasian female with blue eyes.  At the time of her disappearance, she was 25 years-old, had blonde hair and was 5'7" and weighed 130-pounds.  Stacy has a tattoo of a heart on her chest and one on her ankle of two doves facing away from each other.  She may have dyed her hair and auburn color.

Anyone with information about Stacy is urged to contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Department at 803.436.2774.
