The Northfield Police Department is asking area residents to help them find a missing man who was last seen on Thursday.
Officials say Joshua Ben Bohlen, 39, has experienced recent mental health issues and his family is concerned for his well-being.
Bohlen is described as a white man standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He has blonde hair, and was last known to be on foot in the rural Northfield area by Goodhue Avenue.
Police say his pickup truck was found along that road, but he was not nearby.
Anyone with information on Bohlen's whereabouts is asked to call police at 507-645-4475.

Police continue search for missing Northfield man, ask hunters for help

By JERRY SMITH
With gun deer hunting season opening on today (Nov. 3), the Northfield Police Department is asking hunters for additional help in finding Joshua Ben Bohlen, who has been missing since Sept. 20.
Northfield Deputy Chief Chuck Walerius said an extensive search using dogs from Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa, and mounted patrols from Goodhue and Rice counties, on Oct. 20-21 yielded no new clues.
“There was an extensive search of a mile radius from the intersection of 110th Street East and Goodhue Avenue near Dennison, which is the last place he was seen,” Walerius said.
Bohlen’s pickup was found along Goodhue Avenue in the rural Northfield area, and he was last known to be on foot.
“With deer hunting season beginning, we are asking hunters outside of the ring to be vigilant in looking for evidence that would help find him,” Walerius said. “We don’t know for sure he is out there, but we’re looking for a little more help.”
Walerius said that he hopes law enforcement officials will be able to conduct another aerial search before the snow flies. He said once that happens, the search for the missing man will likely be finished for the year.
“Once the cold weather sets in, it makes it tough on us,” he said.
Joshua Bohlen’s description:
• 39 years of age
• White
• Male
• 5-foot, 6-inches
• 180 pounds
• Blonde hair
Bohlen has experienced recent mental health issues and his family is concerned for his well-being.
Citizens with information regarding Bohlen or his whereabouts are urged to call the Northfield Police Department at 507-645-4475.
If hunters see any evidence of the missing man, Walerius said they should call 911.

Police request help in finding missing Minn. man

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Police are asking farmers and landowners in the Northfield area to report any clues about the disappearance of a 39-year-old man missing more than seven months.
Joshua Bohlen was last seen Sept. 20, 2012, near his pickup about a mile north of Dennison.
Police say Bohlen was suffering from paranoia when he disappeared and likely would have hidden from any people or vehicles.
Authorities are asking anyone who owns or rents property in the area to check their land before crops or vegetation begins to grow. That includes creek bottoms, sloughs, wooded areas and abandoned buildings or farm sites.
Bohlen is a white man, 5-foot-6, 180 pounds with blond hair. He possibly was last wearing jeans, a long-sleeved shirt and hiking or work boots.

Missing Northfield man’s family seeks petition for determination of death of absentee
Posted: Friday, September 13, 2013 11:46 am | Updated: 1:15 am, Sat Sep 14, 2013.
By KAITLYN ROBY
Nearly one year after a Northfield man went missing, the family is looking to go to court to declare him deceased according to the law, in order to take care of his property.
According to the legal notice, the mother of Joshua Ben Bohlen — the 39-year-old man who was last seen on Sept. 20, 2012 — is expected to appear in court in October for a hearing related to a petition for the determination of death of an absentee.
If no objections are filed prior to the court date, the court may or may not order Bohlen deceased, as a matter of law, according to the legal notice.
As Bohlen’s whereabouts are still unknown, it doesn’t change anything for the Northfield Police Department, according to Sgt. Monte Nelson, who has been working closely on Bohlen’s case and with the family.
Nelson said that the determination of death helps the family gain control of his finances and personal things, but that the department’s investigation is still ongoing.
“Just because that declaration happens, it doesn’t put an end to our processes,” Nelson said. “It’s a legal- and court formality-type thing. The family, unfortunately, still is going to end up in the same spot [with] those unanswered questions.”
The department continues to follow up on leads, Nelson said. Bohlen’s information is in a national database that sometimes produces possible connections, none of which have panned out, Nelson said. According to Nelson, a group of friends searched certain areas again this summer for any evidence of what happened.
“The unfortunate thing, as more time goes by, there’s less and less we can actively do,” Nelson said. “It’s just staying on top of any information that can possibly come in.”
Bohlen, who grew up in Northfield and struggled with symptoms of schizophrenia, was last seen near his pickup on Goodhue Avenue about one mile north of Dennison.
After he was reported missing, police, firefighters and several volunteer search groups scoured the several miles surrounding Bohlen’s truck. Efforts included aerial searches, bloodhounds, mounted police and a device to detect body heat from the air.
The Faribault attorney involved with Ruth Bohlen’s petition was not available for comment Friday.
