She took no extra clothing or money with her when she was last seen in 1985. She has a small mole under her chin, a large mark under her arm and her appendix has been removed.

Karen Stratton doesn't think her daughter, Jody Ledkins, disappeared voluntarily. She prefers to believe that Jody, who was 14 when she vanished in 1985 from a Northeast area neighborhood, has amnesia.
Police suspect the girl was murdered.
No, Stratton said.
"In my heart and in God's world, there is always room for a miracle, and that's where this one will stay until I die," Stratton said.
Swann said parents like Stratton and the Hamiltons are always the last to give up.
"They hold out hope” and as a parent you would have to," she said.

Through the Gears is one of JB Scott's many publications. In partnership with Project Jason, they feature one missing person per month. You can pick up your free copies at a local truck stop, but if it's far from you, you may want to call and ask if they carry that magazine. These are NOT with the regular for purchase magazines. At my truck stop, they are in a special rack outside the main truck stop door. At another truck stop, they are in a hallway between the store and the trucker's lounge.
Through the Gears has a circulation of about 150,000.

She wore large round eyeglasses at the time of her disappearance. Ledkins has an appendectomy scar on her abdomen. Some agencies refer to her as Jody Stratton.
Details of Disappearance
Ledkins was last seen at a friend's house in the 700 block of Cambrige Street in Kansas City, Missouri on May 23, 1985. She had an argument with her boyfriend and other friends on the day of her disappearance. She apparently wanted to accompany them to their destination, but they refused.
Ledkins walked to a nearby friend's residence and called her mother, asking for a ride home to the 2300 block of Topping Street. Her mother did not have her car and Ledkins told her she would find another ride. Ledkins was never heard from again. She did not take any money or extra clothing with her when she disappeared.
Ledkins was enrolled in a juvenile probation program at the time she disappeared. (She and a friend had had a run-in with a security guard in 1984). Her caseworker was contacted by Ledkins' mother after the disappearance. The caseworker filed two warrants for Ledkins, listing her as an endangered juvenile who should be detained by authorities if she was spotted. Ledkins's mother assumed that the warrants also meant juvenile authorities had filed a missing child report with law enforcement; they did not. Law enforcement never considered Ledkins as a missing person until 1987, two years following her disappearance, because they had not been notified. As a result, Ledkins's case was obviously extremely delayed and clues were minimal by the time the investigation began.
In 1997, police dragged the Missouri River after two prison inmates claimed they had information on the case. Their tip went nowhere, but it lead the Kansas City Police Department to reclassify Ledkins's case as a homicide. Her mother now lives in Arkansas but visits Kansas City a few times every year to search for her daughter. Ledkins's case remains unsolved.

Still Missing: A look at Kansas City cold cases

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Police Department is handling more than 40 cold cases of missing persons. Some people on the list vanished nearly 30 years ago.
Investigators said these are some of the hardest cases to solve.
“The longer a case goes on, the more likely that you will not get a solution,” former FBI agent Jeff Lanza said.
“There is no evidence to begin with and any evidence you had has been run down so there is nothing left to solve those cases.”
Lanza said a case is generally considered cold after a year or when all leads run out.
Two Kansas City women have been waiting for a lead in their loved ones cold case for years.
Melissa Folscroft was the last to see her best friend Jody Ledkins alive.
The two were visiting at a home on East 14th Street in 1985. Ledkins told Folscroft that she wanted to go home, but Ledkins never made it there. Folscroft believes Ledkins was actually headed somewhere else.
“She was asking my mom what the signs of pregnancy were, because she had met this guy around the corner,” said Folscroft.
Folscroft believes Ledkin’s boyfriend was not happy about the pregnancy. The boyfriend was questioned, but never charged with any crimes. No signs of Ledkins were ever found.
“I want her to know that she can come home anytime she wants and I still love her. I miss her badly,” said Folscroft.
Bridget McKeown knows how Folscroft is feeling. McKeown’s mother, Shirley, vanished in 2002.
The 71-year-old was on her way to Bridget McKeown’s house in 2002. Shirley McKeown never made it to the house. Her car was found in a lot off of 33rd Street and Highland 10 days later.
“There was a lot of blood in the car so they knew that there was a homicide at that time,” said Bridget McKeown.
Bridget McKeown hired private investigators, but never found the remains of her mother. She said investigators had two suspects, but they were never charged. Police said there haven’t been any leads in the case in at least five years.
“I want her remains back really bad,” said Bridget McKeown. “They got away with murder.”
Kansas City detectives said the cases are still assigned to an investigator.
“We will follow up on any leads that are called in but right now we don’t have any,” Sgt. Stacey Graves said.

Police still searching for KCMO woman 30 years after disappearance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police said Friday in a press release that they are still searching for Jody Ledkins who went missing 30 years ago.
According to police, Ledkins called her mother on May 23, 1985 and said she was headed home from her friend’s home, but she never showed up.
Police said Ledkins was last seen walking on Winchester from 14th Street in 1985. She was headed north.
In the press release police said they suspect Ledkins could have been going to her boyfriend’s house located in the 700 block of Cambridge. Police said they suspect foul play in the case.
When she disappeared in 1985, Ledkins was described as 5′ 1″ tall and weighed 90 pounds. According to police, she had blonde hair and blue eyes. Ledkins wore glasses , had a small mole under her chin, a large birthmark under her arm, an appendectomy scar and “perfect” teeth.
Ledkins mother has since moved out of state, but she is still seeking the whereabouts of her daughter, who would now be 44 years old.
