Stackhouse was last seen at approximately 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. on December 2, 2005, when he left his parents' home in the 100 block of Lynn Circle in Syracuse, New York to go riding with a friend. When his parents woke up the next morning, their son had still not returned and they reported him as a missing person.

In the days following his disappearance, Stackhouse's parents and his girlfriend received several anonymous telephone calls; the caller(s) told them where to find Stackhouse's body. Authorities have no hard evidence that Stackhouse is deceased, but they consider his disappearance to be suspicious. At the time of his disappearance he had two warrants out for his arrest, but investigators do not believe this is why he vanished. Stackhouse left behind a young daughter. His case remains unsolved.

Calls jar missing city man's family

Man, 19, disappeared a week ago; callers purport to know location of body.

Saturday, December 10, 2005
By Delen Goldberg
Staff writer

Larry and Lorraine Stackhouse's hearts jump every time the phone rings.

Their son, Larry Stackhouse Jr., 19, of 108 Lynn Circle, Syracuse, was last seen Dec. 3. City police on Friday called Stackhouse "missing and endangered."

Stackhouse's parents last saw their son about 6 p.m. Dec. 2. Larry Stackhouse Sr. said his son left their house to go "riding" with a friend.

When Stackhouse woke up the next morning, Larry Jr. was still gone. Stackhouse and his wife called police Monday to report him missing.

Since then, the Stackhouses have received several phone calls from people offering information about their son. Some of the calls present a glimmer of hope. Others chill them to the bone.

Lorraine Stackhouse said she and her son's girlfriend each have received phone calls from people telling them where to find Larry Jr.'s body.

"People call and talk about bodies behind buildings," Lorraine Stackhouse said Friday. "You can't think nothing but the worst when you get that negative feedback. But our faith is holding us strong."

Police investigating the information in the phone calls have found no evidence that Stackhouse is dead. They do believe, however, he may have gotten into trouble the night of Dec. 2 or the morning of Dec. 3, Sgt. Tom Connellan said.

"We believe that he may have been involved in some criminal activity before he went missing," Connellan said.

Stackhouse's parents said it is unlike their son to disappear. He lives at home, they said, and speaks with both his parents and girlfriend daily.

"Did you hear his voice?" Larry Stackhouse Sr. asked. "What did the message say?"

Stackhouse's parents bubbled with hope. Nervously, they asked the man to save the message, note the number the caller had used and call them back with the information.

Moments later, the phone rang again. But this time, the man said had he made a mistake. It wasn't Larry Jr. who had called.

Larry Stackhouse Sr. crumpled on the couch.

"We tried to do the right thing with our son," he said.

Search for missing man continues

Updated: 12/12/2005 4:34 PM  By: News 10 Now Staff

Larry Stackhouse Sr. checks his messages every day hoping to get one from his son, 19-year-old Larry Jr. Larry was last seen the evening of December second.

"He said he was going riding with his friend mike and that was the last conversation we had with him," said Lorrianne Stackhouse.

The Stackhouse family says Larry Jr. always calls home and for him to not contact anyone is very strange.

"We have conducted numerous interviews and have searched areas and still we have come up with nothing. At this point we have no definitive evidence that anything bad has happened to him," said Sgt. Tom Connellan.

The search continues for 19-year-old Larry Stackhouse Jr. He was reported missing a week ago. Syracuse Police and his family are actively talking to anyone who may know where he is. News 10 Now's Carolyn Evert sat down with his parents, who are pleading for anyone with information to please step forward.

Now when Larry Jr. left this house a little over a week ago, he had two warrants out for his arrest. Police are unsure if this is the reason why he left but they are exploring all avenues to determine his mysterious disappearance.

In addition to a warrant, police say Larry Jr. may have been involved in something else.

"Our investigation has lead us to believe that in our around the time he may have gone missing he may have been involved in illegal activity, if he went missing b/c of that, that would give us a motive but we just don't know for sure," said Connellan.

"By hearing everything we have, we are just shocked, very disappointed," said Larry Jr.

But despite their son's past the Stackhouse's just want him home safely.

"We love our son and we just want him home. Just let us know, if anybody knows something, anything and we are not asking, we are pleading for somebody to let us know something," said Lorrianne.

If you have any information about where Stackhouse might be, you're asked to call Syracuse Police at 315-442-5222.

Updated: 12/25/2005 1:06 PM  By: Megan Driscoll, News 10 Now Web Staff

The tree is trimmed and the presents are wrapped, but the Stackhouse Family will not be celebrating Christmas this year.

"We are pleading for someone to just tell us something because people just don't vanish. They just don't vanish without anyone knowing something. And I know somebody knows something and I just want to say to that person or people that know something, is just for them to think what if this was their son," said Lorraine Stackhouse, Larry Jr.'s mother.

The family of a missing 19-year-old Syracuse man continues to search for him this weekend. Larry Stackhouse Junior was last seen December 2. News 10 Now's Megan Driscoll spoke with his family as they try to cope during the holidays.

Larry Jr.'s two-year-old daughter, Taezahria is spending Christmas without her father.

The Stackhouse family said they continue to hope and pray for Larry Jr.'s safe return.

Birthday for missing man

Parents of missing Syracuse man will spend today hoping for news of their son.

Sunday, September 02, 2007By Sapna Kollali Staff writer

Today is Larry Stackhouse Jr.'s 21st birthday.

But his family hasn't planned a party and his friends won't buy him a celebratory drink. His parents, Lorraine and Larry Stackhouse Sr., will spend today the way they spend every day searching.

"It's hard to do anything without knowing where he is," Lorraine Stackhouse said. "But I want to use every opportunity to keep the awareness out there. This could very easily turn into a cold case, and I don't want that."

Stackhouse Jr. disappeared nearly two years ago, at age 19. He left his home in the Valley section of Syracuse on Dec. 2, 2005, and his parents have not seen him since.

Rumors have since circulated about what happened, including that he stole drugs from another teen shortly before his disappearance.

Stackhouse Sr. said he has heard all the rumors. He and his wife talk to police officers every day, sharing information they have heard that could help solve the case.

"We hear their message," he said. "We're beyond the rumors. We're determined to find out what happened and we will bring this case to justice."

Sgt. Tom Connellan said the case is still active, but he had no new information. Police consider Stackhouse Jr. "missing and endangered."

Lorraine Stackhouse said she hopes and prays every day she will see her son again.

"It's getting harder the longer it goes on," she said. "I'll never give up hope that we'll find him safe."

Woman killed in crossfire: Second tragedy for family

Oct 19, 2007 02:52 PM CDT

The killing of a Syracuse woman is not the first tragedy for the Stackhouse family.

Yashmik Stackhouse is the cousin of Larry Stackhouse, who vanished without a trace in December of 2005. There are still no clues about his disappearance

Syracuse Police have released the names of two women caught in the crossfire of a fatal shooting. Yashmik Stackhouse, 27, of Primrose Avenue was pronounced dead at University Hospital. Yevette Reese, 42, of S. Mcbride Street is recovering at University Hospital. She is listed in fair condition.

Connellan says police still have no arrests or suspects. They are looking for the public's help for any information on this crime. He says early indications are these two women were walking alng the street, when two males got in an argument and shots were fired.

Police tell us the shootings happened in the courtyard of Raddison Court around 9:50 pm. Stackhouse was struck and critically injured. She was taken to University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Reese has a gunshot wound. Police do not believe either female was a target. Police believe a dispute was going on, and they got caught up in the middle of a cross fire.

Syracuse Police Sergeant Tom Connellan says, "These two females happened to walk in the middle of that dispute were gunshots were fired, and both the victims were hit."

Syracuse Police are still searching for a suspect, and are looking for the help of the public. Neither victim has been identified. If anyone has any information regarding who the suspect is, or if you were in the area at the time of the shooting, please call Syracuse Police at 442-5222.

From Associated Press:

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - One woman was killed and another wounded in a crossfire that broke out following an argument between two men. The shootings took place in a public housing complex in downtown Syracuse just before 10 p.m. Thursday, said Sgt. Tom Connellan, a Syracuse Police spokesman. Police did not immediately release the victims names. The women, one in her 30s and the second in her 40s, were walking on the sidewalk when one man opened fire on another man in the complex courtyard. Witnesses said they heard five or six gunshots. The younger woman died at University Hospital, Connellan said. Police were looking for the shooters, he said.

Parents search for answers three years after son's disappearance

Updated: 12/01/2008 07:02 AM

SYRACUSE, NY - One hundred eight Lynn Circle used to be the house Larry Stackhouse Jr. called home.

Inside, his parents Lorraine and Larry Sr. continue to search for answers as to what happened to their son since he disappeared in December of 2005.

"Asking questions, you know, seeking out- reaching out to his friends in hopes that someone that knows what happened to him will let us know or let the police know," said Lorraine Stackhouse, Larry Jr.'s mother.

At the time of his disappearance, Larry Jr., then 19, had two warrants out for his arrest.

Syracuse police said their investigation lead them to believe that Larry Jr. may have been involved in illegal activity, but didn't know for sure.

What is certain: The Stackhouse's love their son and want those who were with him in the hours before he vanished to come forward.

"We're very sad to know his friends who were with him the night he came up missing are claiming not to know anything so it's tough," said Larry Stackhouse Sr., Larry Jr.'s father.

Stackhouse's parents say they think their son was taken against his will.

"It's not in his character to be away without notifying us for 3 years. So whatever happened I'm not sure. But I just know it was against his will," said Lorraine Stackhouse.

"I just hold the faith. We know that one day we'll find out what happened, so I trust in God and we know that we'll find out exactly what happened," said Larry Stackhouse Sr.

Syracuse Police say this case is still open and they are continuing their investigation. The Stackhouse's say they were in touch with police just last week to check up on the progress of the case but that there is no new information at this time.

Anyone with information on this case should call the Syracuse Police at (315) 442-5222.

Larry Stackhouse disappearance
On 23rd birthday, parents vow never to give up

By Jim Kenyon
Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at 6:03 p.m.

SYRACUSE -- Larry Stackhouse Junior has been missing for three and a half years. On what would have been his 23rd birthday, his parents vow to never give up the search. "We will never let this become a cold case", Larry Stackhouse Senior told Action News Wednesday.

Stackhouse disappeared on December 2nd, 2005. His father now believes that Stackhouse was kidnapped off the streets of Syracuse, murdered and his body concealed somewhere on the Onondaga Nation Territory. Since the disappearance, Stackhouse Senior says he has received calls, letters and other information that points to certain individuals who either killed his son or know who did. While he says the clues point to the Onondaga Nation as the place where the body may be found, the frustrated father feels investigators are hampered by procedures dealing with a sovereign nation. "It takes time to get down there to search an area or speak to certain individuals."

Chief Deputy District Attorney Rick Trunfio says the nation has cooperated with the investigation. He says police conducted a search with cadaver dogs but found nothing. Trunfio says an assistant prosecutor and an investigator who is a Native American are constantly working the case. He tells Action News there was "activity", which he would not spell out, as recently as yesterday. "A cold case is difficult to work" he explains, "you have limited leads, limited information coming in, but we're tracking all the information that comes in."

Attorney Joe Heath says the Onondaga Nation chiefs have cooperated with the Stackhouse investigation. "We all share the same goals, which is safety for all the citizens of Central New York."

Five years ago, Larry Stackhouse went to a CBA game. The 19-year-old's never been seen since
Where is Larry Stackhouse Jr.?

Published: Sunday, December 05, 2010, 5:37 AM
Dick Case / Post-Standard columnist

Dec. 2, 2005, the 19-year-old Syracusan left his cozy home in the Valley neighborhood to go to a CBA basketball game with a friend. His parents haven’t seen Larry since that night.

Did he run away? Or was he murdered?

The only thing his parents – Lorraine and Larry Stackhouse – know for sure today is that Larry isn’t where he belongs. The Stackhouses have a big hole in their lives that’s filled with emptiness.

It’s five years gone by and they’re still counting the days.

“We need closure,” his father told me when I visited the Stackhouses at their home last week.

For the family, closure means an answer to that question I posed early on: what happened to their son?

The answer has obsessed Lorraine and Larry since that first Saturday morning, when Larry’s bed wasn’t slept in. Their search has dragged them through uncounted interviews, phone messages, letters and so far fruitless searches of apartments and land around the dam on the Onondaga Indian Reservation.

“This is a difficult case,” says Capt. John Brennan, a Syracuse police officer who’s worked Larry’s disappearance with his parents. City cops have had the case since the Stackhouses reported their son missing the Monday morning after he vanished. Larry Sr. said he counts John as a friend.

One time as he walked around reservation land, he recalls asking himself “Where is my son?” There was no answer.

The Stackhouses have listened to many strange stories about Larry’s disappearance in five years. Among them:

The friend who supposedly went with him to the basketball game in DeWitt has changed the story he told the Stackhouses early on: that he knew what happened to Larry and why. It had something to do with a group of Native Americans at Corcoran High School, where Larry once attended classes. He dropped out of school and was working as a dishwasher.

Was their son using marijuana? Was he selling the drug? His mother found a quarter bag of weed hidden in his room. Did that connect to the story he’d had a argument with a Native American woman over pot?

What about the letter sent to his father by a prison inmate? The man claimed he knew what happened to Larry, and why.

In another case, a young woman who attended Corcoran High School told her principal she knew what happened to Larry. She claimed students were bragging that his body never would be found. That it was ground up in a tree shredder.

The Stackhouses say they believe Syracuse police have done an excellent job of investigating the case and following up leads. They claim less cooperation from other police agencies.

Larry said the local office of the FBI told him that city police had the case under control and didn’t need help. He said he and his wife did some of their own detective work because “We didn’t have the support.”

He said it took months for the Onondaga sheriff’s department to get approval from Onondaga Council of Chiefs for a search of the reservation. There was another delay in arranging for a cadaver dog to come to the reservation, likewise a helicopter sweep, according to Larry.

Both Lorraine and Larry are troubled by the attention directed to the recent disappearance and murder of Jenni-Lyn Watson.

“Our son also had a promising future,” Lorraine explained. “We feel that if we had received the same attention five years ago right from the start, such as Jenni-Lyn did, then we would have had closure as well. After a week of absorbing all the local and national media attention, not to mention from the law enforcement agencies, we can’t help but think that it’s not just who you are as a person, but the color of your skin that gets the attention.

“We don’t understand why there’s a difference.”

The Stackhouses said they failed in their attempts to interest the national news media in their son’s mystery.

They said clothing was found on the reservation, not far from the dam. Larry said he was sure it was his son’s tee shirt. But DNA tests were negative.

Neither parent appears ready to say, for sure, that their son is dead. They circle the question without answering it.

Help sought
Tips about Larry Stackhouse Jr.’s disappearance can be made to the Syracuse police at 315-442-5222.

“We don’t know,” his father says. “But it’s five years and you never give up. Time will tell.” Larry believes the passage of time and the burden of knowing what happened to Larry eventually will wear down the people who have the answers. “There are people who need to come forward,” he explained. “We will crack this case, with the help of the Syracuse Police Department.” John Brennan knows the frustration the Stackhouses feel. City police have endured many interviews and followed many leads, some of those supplied by Lorraine and Larry. “There’s nothing concrete,” John explained. “Every lead is a dead end.” Hope smolders, though. “We’re still getting phone calls,” John says.
