Charles Horvath's mother hopes billboard will help solve disappearance

Thu, 2010-04-15 12:36.

The mother of a tourist who went missing in Kelowna over two decades ago is hoping a billboard will help bring her peace.

21 year old Charles Horvath went missing from Kelowna in May of 1989, and is presumed dead.  He was staying at the Tiny Town Campground on Lakeshore Road, and worked various jobs.  The last job he worked at was at the now defunct Flintstones Bedrock City at the corner of McCurdy Road and Highway 97.

Horvath's mother, Denise Allan will travel to Kelowna this May to renew her plea for information about her son's disappearance.

Allan also has plans to errect a Missing Person billboard, urging anyone with information to come forward.  It costs a thousand dollars a month to rent the billboard, so she is also looking for donations.

You can make a tax deductible donation to the Charles Horvath billboard fund through the Compassionate Friends Foundation.  Cheques can be made payable to:

TCF Kelowna (The Compassionate Friends)  please indicate "Billboard for Charles Horvath" in the memo line, and forwarded to Linda Woods at 650 Gibson Road, Kelowna.

Mom hunts son missing since 1989

The Province April 20, 2010

The mother of a man who went missing 21 years ago is hoping a Kelowna billboard may jog someone's memory -- or conscience -- about her son.

Denise Allan, the mother of Charles Karoly Horvath who went missing from Kelowna in 1989, plans to put up a giant billboard to remind residents her son has never been found.

Allan, who has visited Kelowna many times over the years from her home in England, has decided to try the tactic that has been used successfully elsewhere.

Allan, who is raising money to cover billboard costs of $1,000 a month, hopes her public bid will prod someone who knows about her son's disappearance to come forward.

Horvath was only 20 when he arrived in Kelowna in May 1989. He was to meet his mother May 11, 1989, in Hong Kong to celebrate both their birthdays.

Police recovered his tent and belongings in the area's Tiny Town campground, but found no clues to his disappearance.

Donations may be made c/o Linda Woods at The Compassionate Friends, 650 Gibson Rd., Kelowna, V1P 1C2. A tax receipt will be issued.

$1,000-per-month billboard to ask for tips in Kelowna cold case

Canwest News Service April 20, 2010

The mother of a man missing for two decades plans to rent a billboard to renew the search efforts.

Charles Horvath went missing from Kelowna in 1989. He had been staying at a local campground and working various odd jobs before he disappeared, said his mother, Denise Allan.

Next month, she will make a trek to Kelowna from England to beg for information about her son's whereabouts.

The new billboard, which will be unveiled next month, will ask people with any information to come forward.

Allan is also asking the public for assistance in paying the $1,000-per-month fee for the billboard.

Two decade old missing person file back in spotlight

Mon, 2010-05-03 13:31.Local News

The mother of a tourist who went missing in Kelowna 21 years ago made another tearful plea for the public's help in locating her missing son.

Denise Allan stood in front of a billboard along Highway 97 Monday  morning reminding motorists that her son Charles Horvath is still missing.

Horvath was last seen in May of 1989 after staying at the Tiny Town Campground on Lakeshore Road.

Allen is funding the billboard is the hopes that someone has information on her son's disappearance.

"It's a hope to tell the world that he is still missing. We still don't have him home. The answer is here in Kelowna and to remind those who know the answer that I am still searching."

Allan has returned to Kelowna over 15 times looking for clues into her son's disappearance.

"There are times when I didn't want to be here. It's been too painful to live each day. But until he's found, I couldn't give up.  I would have never believed that I would be doing it 21 years later", Allan added.

Allan is looking for donations to fund the billboard.

You can do that by contact the Kelowna RCMP.
