Classification: Endangered Missing
DOB: October 28, 1958
Age: 43 years old
Height and Weight: 5'2", 120 lbs
Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian female.  Brown hair, blue eyes.
Medical Conditions: Romedy has multiple sclerosis and requires medication to treat her condition.  She did not have her medicine with her when she disappeared.  Without treatment, Romedy's condition will cause her to have difficulty walking.

Details of Disappearance

Romedy was last seen at her apartment in the 400 block of Weisenbaker Rd in Rincon, GA on February 28, 2002.  She tucker her daughter into bed at 9 p.m. A few minutes later, Romedy's daughter got up to get a drink of water and saw her mother watching television.  This is the last sighting of her.  When Romedy's daughter woke up in the morning, her mother was gone.  She has never been heard from again.

Romedy's daughter initially believed her mother had gone to work, but Romedy never showed up for work that day.  Her daughter reported her mother missing at 9 p.m. on March 1.  Romedy's cellular phone, jacket, jewelry, and medication were all left behind at her home.  The only thing missing from the residence was her Dale Earnhart cap, adn her burgundy four-door 1997 Plymouth Breeze.  The vehicle was located in the parking lot of the Fair Oaks Apartments on Weisenbaker Road, about a mile from Romedy's home.  There was nothing inside it that would indicate Romedy's whereabouts.

Romedy's oldest son was killed in an automobile accident in June 2002, four months after her disappearance.  His death is not thought to be related to his mother's case, however.  She was reported missing on March 1, the day after her disappearance.  At the time she vanished, she was employed in the customer service department of Kahn & Co. Inc., and had been working there for three weeks.

Foul play is suspected in Romedy's disappearance.  her boyfriend has not been named a suspect, but he will not take a polygraph and will not cooperate with police.  Roemdy's loved ones believe that she is deceased and that a local individual was responsible for her disappearance.  Her case remains unsolved.

Allyson Romedy: Four Years Later

Posted Image

What happened to Allyson Romedy? Four years ago last night, the Rincon mother just disappeared. Family and friends held a vigil, holding out hope for closure.

Sadly, there have been no developments in the case. The family has given up hope Allyson is alive, but they do think someone out there knows what happened the night 43-year-old Allyson tucked her ten-year-old daughter into bed for the last time.

The candles served as a reminder of that night. "When her daughter woke up the next morning, her mom was gone," said Becky Becton, Allyson's mother. "We haven't seen her since."

The last four years, all Becky has wanted were answers, but nobody could solve her disappearance. "I feel she is no longer alive, and the person responsible lives right here in Rincon," she told us.

"Someone in Rincon is responsible. They know her whereabouts," said Rincon police chief Mike Barton. He says all signs point to Allyson being dead.

As each year passes, he's afraid her case will only get colder. "As days go by, it gets harder to come up with evidence and leads."

Every year on this day, candles burn. Allyson's family doesn't want anyone to forget. "It's very important for people to remember and keep their eyes and ears open for any little clue or any statement somebody might make to help find her," said Becky.

There is still a $7,500 reward for any information leading police to Allyson Romedy. You can call CrimeStoppers at 912. 234.2020.

Rincon Woman Now Missing for Five Years

It's one of our area's unsolved mysteries. Five years ago tonight, Allyson Romedy vanished without a trace. The 43 year old Rincon woman tucked her ten year old daughter into bed and said goodnight. It was the last time anyone ever saw her. Now her family is hoping someone knows what happened and can give them the closure they desperately want.

"It's been very hard," said Beckie Becton, Allyson's mother. "Of course, time marches on. Life goes on."

Still, five years later, not a day goes by that Beckie Becton does not think about her daughter.

"She went to work that day and it was probably a normal day for her," she said. "What goes through my mind is I wonder just exactly what happened when she got home from work, after she had dinner."

On February 28, 2002, Allyson Romedy put her ten year old daughter, Mallorie, to bed. When Mallorie woke up, her mother was gone.

"I can try to picture what I think she must have experienced or gone through," Allyson's mother said. "It's kind of tough."

Since that day, the family has searched with police, volunteers, even a psychic, hoping to find some sign of her.

"She would never have gone for any length of time without contacting some of her family," she explained. "It just -- that was just not her nature."

A lot has happened to Allyson's family in the past five years. Her son, Michael, who helped with the search, was killed in a car wreck three months after her disappearance. Her daughter, Mallorie, now 15, lives with her father in North Carolina. Another son, Marc, has a new baby, Dakota, who will never know his grandmother.

Current Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie, was Rincon Police's lead investigator at the time. He said it's one of the few cases where he has no idea what happened.

"Right now, we're grasping at straws," said Sheriff McDuffie, "and anything we hear or can look at, we immediately go and do that."

This year, there will be no candlelight vigil for Allyson. For her family, it's simply too painful.

"It's not something that we can lay aside and forget," said Beckie Becton. "If we could find her, then we could gain closure and it would be easier for us to move on, maybe."

The missing person poster for Allyson Romedy is still posted at the Rincon Police Department. Allyson's family and police are still holding out hope that someone, somewhere, knows something.

"We just implore the people out there to listen," said her mother. "Keep your eyes and ears open and if anything comes up, to notify the authorities. Please have mercy on her family. Just have mercy and give us the closure that we need."

If you have any information about Allyson Romedy's disappearance, call Rincon Police at (912) 826-5200 or CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020. You could be eligible for a reward up to $7,500. The Georgia Governor's Office is also contributing a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the cas

Missing mothers, murdered soldiers among area's unsolved cases
Families, police officers search for answers in five cold cases

Posted: August 8, 2010 - 5:42am  |  Updated: August 9, 2010 - 9:38am By Jennifer Menster

Sandra Frazier spends her days going through the motions; just barely getting by, she says. In 2008, the Savannah resident buried her mother. In June 2009, Nathaniel Frazier walked away from his Cloverdale home, and every day since Sandra and her siblings search and pray for their father's safe return.

In Oakdale, Penn., Greg Corwin goes to bed each night a little ill in the pit of his stomach. He fights off nightmares of his son Scottie being gunned down in one of Savannah's most famous squares.

"Obviously there's somebody that's walking around there that pointed a gun and pulled the trigger and put a piece of lead in my son," Greg Corwin said, "and when I think about that, which seems to be every night when I go to bed, I get flashbacks, and how he suffered, and what we lost, what this country lost - but there's somebody out there that did it and has had six years of freedom now."

The Fraziers and Corwins are not alone. Families from Savannah and Pembroke to as far away as Texas know the pain of not knowing what happened to their dead or missing loved ones.

At savannahnow.com/unsolved, we feature five unsolved cases in the Coastal Empire. Two are murders of military men who were gunned down in Savannah: Scott Corwin on May 29, 2004, and Damion Turner Reese on Sept. 18, 2009.

Three cases involve people who vanished from their homes: Allyson Romedy, last seen Feb. 28, 2002; Emma Carroll, last seen July 18, 2009; and Frazier on June 21, 2009.

On the website, you can get a glimpse of these cases and, with some, watch as families talk about not knowing what happened.

Allyson Romedy
Missing, Effingham County

Allyson Romedy was last seen by her then 10-year-old daughter on Feb. 28, 2002.

Romedy and daughter Mallorie lived in an apartment on Weisenbaker Road in Rincon. Mallorie told police she got out of bed around 9 p.m. for some water and saw her mom watching television with a man Romedy had been dating for about a year. When Mallorie woke up the next morning, Romedy and her car were gone. When she didn't show up for work, her family reported her missing.

Police would find Romedy's missing 1997 Plymouth Breeze two days later abandoned about a mile from where she lived.

Family members spent years passing out flyers, holding vigils and searching for Romedy, according to Savannah Morning News stories.

Romedy was 5 feet 2 inches tall, 120 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes at the time of her disappearance.

Anyone with information about Allyson Romedy should call the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at 912-871-1121, Rincon police at 912-826-5200 or CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020.

Mother still missing ten years later

Posted: Feb 24, 2012 11:02 PM EST

Updated: Mar 07, 2012 11:56 AM EST

RINCON, GA (WTOC) - Even ten years after Allyson Romedy's disappearance, her family says they won't give up trying to find out what happened to her.

Standing along Georgia Highway 21 on Friday evening, they asked the community in Rincon to remember Allyson with signs.

"We are absolutely afraid that the police will forget. Time moves on. The GBI has other cases that take priority. We absolutely are concerned that it is forgotten," Allyson's sister Jennifer Wilson said.

The family says they think about Romedy everyday.

"It's an ache in your heart that never goes away. My biggest prayer right now is that the Lord just lets us find her," Romedy's mother Beckie Becton said.

On February 28th, 2002 Allyson Romedy vanished without a trace. The 43 year old Rincon mother tucked her daughter into bed and said goodnight. That was the last time anyone saw her.

"We just want to recover her and give proper closure to her life," Wilson said.

Romedy's family says they have no doubt she was murdered...but moving on is inconceivable until they know who killed her.

"That's the most difficult part...not knowing what happened. And I would just like to find her remains, bring her home, and give her a Christian burial," Allyson's mother said.

The family, along with police, volunteers, and even a psychic have searched for years, but come up with nothing. They say in their hearts, they feel Allyson's remains are closeby..and so is her killer.

"That person is still in Rincon. There is no doubt in my mind about that," Becton said.

If you have any information, call Rincon Police at 912-826-5200.
