Port Orange authorities are looking for 28-year-old Laurel Lea Rogers, missing since Feb. 1.

Rogers, 28, was last seen leaving her residence on Horizon View Boulevard about 8 p.m. on Feb. 1, police said.

Police said she does not have a working vehicle.

Rogers suffers from Lupus and does not have her medications, her mother, Lauretta Rogers, told police.

The GPS on Rogers' cell phone shows the phone is in New Port Richey.

Rogers is described as standing 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. She has blue eyes and sandy blonde hair that falls to the middle of her back.

Police said she had no distinguishing scars or tattoos but that because of her Lupus, she has "substantial" bruising on her arms and legs, police said.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Police are searching for a Port Orange woman who was last seen Monday.

Police said Laurel Rogers was last seen leaving her home in Port Orange. Although Rogers does not have a car, detectives said they picked up "pings" from her cell phone in New Port Richey.

Rogers suffers from lupus and does not have her medication with her, family members said. The condition has resulted in substantial bruising on her arms and legs.

Rogers stands 5 feet 7 inches, has blond hair and usually wears a necklace with two rings on it, as well as rings on every finger.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to contact the police.

A family friend is offering a $5,000 reward for a missing 28-year-old Port Orange woman who soon could be in dire condition without her medication, the woman's mother said today.

Laurel Lea Rogers, who has the auto-immune disease lupus and is in jeopardy of complete organ failure without her medication, hasn’t been seen since Monday evening, according to her mother and Port Orange police.

Rogers is under the care of a nephrologist because her disease has affected her kidneys and she does not have her medication with her, said her mother Lauretta Rogers. She would have to see a doctor to refill her prescriptions.

"We're really close," Lauretta Rogers said. "She would never leave without her medication."

Port Orange police Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz said Laurel Rogers does not have a working car and investigators are concerned about who she may have taken a ride with.

"We know she left the area," he said.

Laurel Rogers is 5-foot-7, 150 pounds with long, sandy blond hair and blue eyes. She does not have scars or tattoos, but does have substantial bruising on her arms and legs, a symptom of her disease. She was last seen wearing a black shirt, jeans, and sneakers.

An alert was issued Thursday about Laurel Lea Rogers of Port Orange.

An official in Port Orange confirmed today that Rogers has not been located.

The search continues for a 28-year-old woman missing from her home in Volusia County.

Port Orange police now believe Laurel Lea Rogers left her home in that city about 5 p.m. Feb. 1 and traveled to Palm Coast to obtain illegal narcotics, Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz said. She is known to abuse and sell prescription medication, he said.

Rogers suffers from Lupus and does not have her medications.

Doctors Interviewed In Missing Woman Search

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Police searching for a missing Port Orange woman started interviewing area doctors Friday. They think a doctor may hold the key to Laurel Rogers’ disappearance since she's been known to use prescription pills.

The family has been plastering the area with posters, but police are not getting a lot of clues, except that Rogers and some of her friends took prescription pills. So police, as they try to find her, are now looking into where those medications came from.

Rogers is no stranger to doctors. Diagnosed with lupus at 16, she's been on medication for 12 years and her mother, Lauretta Rogers, says she knew, at times, Rogers was overmedicated.

“I do blame the doctors for her problems. I do,” Lauretta said.

Police confirmed they're now interviewing several doctors in connection with Rogers’ disappearance, though not saying specifically which ones.

“At this point, I don't know all of her doctors anymore, but you see it on the news every day. Doctors are overprescribing every medication they can get their hands on,” Lauretta said.

Police have learned some of Rogers’ friends also took pills and those friends, Rogers’ family said, are not providing a lot of answers.

“We've checked absolutely everyone, called absolutely everyone, everyone knows, and nobody knows any answers,” friend Angela Eells said.

And yet, with Rogers’ car still in her driveway, her family feels it must have been a friend who took her somewhere. Her bank accounts have not been touched. Her cell phone, tracked by police to the other side of the state, has been turned off. She left all of her medications for Lupus at home, a sign, her family says, she intended to come home, and Rogers’ family says she was not a person who made enemies.

“There's nothing in her nature to be argumentative or violent. There's nothing like that in her,” Eells said.

Police said their main focus on interviewing doctors is getting information that leads to Rogers, not a drug investigation. There's a $5,000 reward for information that helps find her.

Police dig up video of missing Port Orange woman

Port Orange police on Tuesday released a still photo from recent store surveillance tape, a photo they say is the last taken of missing Laurel Lea Rogers.

The photo shows Rogers, 28, wearing a purple t- shirt with a multi-colored design on the right front. She was also wearing a lavender long-sleeve t-shirt under the purple shirt and also faded blue jeans, the photo shows.

The photo does not show her shoes.

Rogers went missing about 8 p.m. Feb. 1 from her residence on Horizon View Boulevard in Port Orange, police said.

She is described 5-feet, 7-inches tall and 150 pounds. She has blue eyes and sandy blonde hair that falls to the middle of her back.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Friends and family of Laurel Rogers haven't seen the 28-year-old in three weeks. They said she left home and never
returned.

Rogers was last seen at her residence located at 1069 Horizon View Boulevard, Port Orange, Florida around 8 p.m. on
February 1. Her mother reported her missing the following day.

On Tuesday, Port Orange Police released surveillance video of Rogers at a store.

Rogers does not have a functioning vehicle and it is unknown if she left the residence on foot or in a vehicle. Family members said she suffers from Lupus and does not have her medications with her. They also told authorities that it is unusual for her to be gone for an extended period of time without contacting her mother.

The recently obtained surveillance video revealed that she was wearing a purple colored t-shirt with an unknown vertical multi-colored design on the right front. She often wears a necklace with two rings as charms.

She is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, with sandy blonde hair that is frequently pulled back into a ponytail. She has blue eyes, and weighs approximately 150 pounds.

Reward raised for missing woman

PORT ORANGE -- Investigators are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of a seriously ill 29-year-old woman who disappeared from her home in February.

Laurel Lea Rogers could be in dire condition without her medication for lupus, an autoimmune disease that has affected her kidneys. Since disappearing from her Horizon View Boulevard residence on Feb. 1, there has been no activity on her bank account or cell phone, nor has she filled prescriptions in the area, investigators said.

City leaders this week approved the $10,000 reward to be offered through the Port Orange Police Department. It's in addition to an anonymous $5,000 donation for information first offered when she vanished and $1,000 from Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida for tips leading to her whereabouts.

Lauretta Rogers said her daughter is a cheerful and trusting woman who would never leave her medication behind. She hopes someone will remember something, even if it's a small detail that might help investigators find her.

"We just want to bring her home and we need all the help that we can get," she said Wednesday. "The community just needs to be involved to help get the word out with her name and her picture."

Her mom is in touch with the Police Department every day. On Saturday, her family plans to hold a banner with Laurel's photo and distribute information in front of police headquarters on Clyde Morris Boulevard.

Since she's been gone, Laurel Rogers' niece was born a few days after Rogers' 29th birthday in June. The child was named Mercy Lea, after the woman's middle name. Her family hopes the two will meet soon.

"Every day I wake up it's like the first day every day," her mother said, becoming emotional. "The pain is just like the first day for the whole family."

The latest reward is funded through the Police Department's forfeiture account, normally used for crime prevention programs and drug abuse education.

Police Chief Gerald Monahan said it will be available for "as long as it takes."

"We're hoping that offering a reward of this magnitude will help the situation," he said.

Only one tip has come in since her disappearance. Billboards and bus ads have not yielded any information on the case, which is the only missing person investigation in the city, Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz said.

$15K reward for missing Volusia County woman

PORT ORANGE --  The family of a missing Volusia County woman hope a reward will help lead them to her.

Earlier this week, the Port Orange Police Department added $10,000 to a reward being offered for information leading them to Laurel Rogers. The total reward is $15,000.

Rogers was last seen Feb. 1 at her home in Port Orange. She suffers from lupus and does not have her medicine.

Rogers’ family stood outside the Port Orange Police Department Saturday, hoping the woman's picture and the offer of a reward will bring an end to this mystery.

"That's sad if the $5,000, if someone's only coming forth for the money, we just don't care. We want any information on Laurel," said Laurel’s sister, Leah Pennington.

PORT ORANGE --  The family of a Port Orange woman missing since Feb. 2 wants people to remember she is still missing and needs help to find her.

Laurel Rogers' family took part in a festival looking for clues.

It was a family affair Sunday morning. Family members of missing the 28-year-old woman handed out flyers and asked questions, looking for the one clue that may lead to her whereabouts.

Missing for eight months, Laurel walked away from her mother's Port Orange home, then vanished. Laurel has lupus and her mother said she would not leave without her medicine.

"We just need everybody to get out there and help us, you know, look for her, and ask questions of anybody that might know her. Because one little question might be a big answer," said Loretta Rogers.

City officials donated the "Port Orange Days" space. Loretta said so far, police have few leads and are re-interviewing the 28-year-old's friends.

A recent prescription drug sting briefly brought Laurel back into the news.

Laurel worked with Dr. Ataur Rahman, who is accused of running a pill mill. Police seized his property, cars and bank accounts.

"What involvement he has, I don't know. I just know that she worked for him for two weeks and she's missing," Loretta said.

Loretta said she will participate in as many of these events as she can to remind folks her daughter is still missing and that a reward for information leading to her whereabouts now stands at $15,000.

Loretta told News 13 Police recently found someone who remembers giving the Laurel a ride. Police, however, have not confirmed this finding. If true, this is the first time anyone has admitted to giving her a ride since she disappeared eight months ago.

Missing woman's mother hopes for her return

PORT ORANGE - Lauretta Rogers used to enjoy decorating for Christmas. But this year there's not a tree, wreath or stocking in sight in her home; the walls and shelves are instead decorated with photographs of her missing daughter.

Lauretta Rogers is the mother of missing woman Laurel Rogers, who disappeared from the family's residence on Horizon View Boulevard on the evening of Feb. 1. No one has seen or heard from Laurel since.

Ms. Rogers shook her head at the thought of decorating because she can't enjoy the holidays unless Laurel is there to enjoy it with her.

"I'm depressed enough as it is," she said. "Without my whole family together, it's not going to be like Christmas."

With the holidays around the corner, Ms. Rogers is working to keep her daughter's name alive within the community, hoping one day she will be found.

Laurel Rogers, 28, was last seen around 8 p.m. on Feb. 1. Her mother said Laurel left the house twice that day - she was there the first time her daughter left, but not the second.

She said Laurel's brother noticed her leaving the house while he was weightlifting, but he did not think anything unusual was happening.

"I had no idea when she walked out the door, I wouldn't see her come back in," Ms. Rogers said, as tears streamed down her face.

The second time Laurel left the house, she left with a man Ms. Rogers described as someone who knew her daughter for a year and was a "really close" friend.

She recalled the man visited her house on Feb. 2 asking where Laurel was, and became suspicious of the way he acted in front of her.

"He was so nervous like something was wrong ... (I asked him) 'why do you think something's wrong?'" she said. "He said just because (Laurel) is not answering the phone."

Ms. Rogers reported her daughter missing that day. She also felt something was wrong because Laurel was not answering her phone. Ms. Rogers said she and Laurel had a very close relationship and she would often call her while she was out of the house to let her mother know how she was doing.

Laurel was diagnosed with lupus at the age of 16. She had to undergo a three-week form of chemotherapy treatment soon thereafter and ever since has had to rely on around 10 medications daily, including steroids and painkillers, to manage the condition.

It is unusual for Laurel to leave for extended periods of time without her medication because "she would be in a lot of pain" without it, Ms. Rogers said.

"(Laurel) wouldn't just walk away," she said. "She had intentions on coming back home."

She said she no longer trusts any of Laurel's friends because no one came forward with any information on the disappearance. She does not know if one of the friends could actually be the enemy.

Nor have the police been able to figure out the mystery. Port Orange Police Captain Frank Surmaczewicz said investigators interviewed approximately 70 individuals about Laurel's disappearance, yet each lead in the case "brought us back to square one."

"It's been tough getting information from the people she knew," he said.

A tip received early in the investigation - that Laurel's phone was located in New Port Richey - turned out to be nothing more than misinformation, he said.

Both police investigators and Ms. Rogers have struggled to not lose hope in finding Laurel - but they have not come close to giving up.

Nearly a year since Laurel went missing, finding her is still the "No. 1 goal" of the Criminal Investigation Division, Capt. Surmaczewicz said. Ms. Rogers said she meets with investigators every three to four weeks to discuss the case.

"As we've told Lauretta, this case is by no means sitting somewhere without being worked," Capt. Surmaczewicz said. "We are hoping to one day get Laurel back to her mom."

The police department is offering a reward of $10,000 funded by the Port Orange Police Department Forfeiture Trust Fund for information leading to Laurel. The total reward stands at $15,000.

Ms. Rogers said the initial $5,000 reward, which was put up before police offered their reward in June, comes from Dr. Ataur Rahman, a pain management doctor who recently had his license revoked. She does not know if that reward still stands.

Laurel worked at Dr. Rahman's clinic for three days shortly before her disappearance. Ms. Rogers said Dr. Rahman wanted Laurel to "get well," which in his words, meant to get her body healthy.

After a seven-month investigation into his practices and a bust on his clinic and his residence, Dr. Rahman's clinic was shut down in September and his medical license was revoked.

Ms. Rogers does not know whether or not Laurel's disappearance could somehow be connected to Dr. Rahman's practice. But she did say Laurel sometimes went "outside the realm" when her medications didn't work.

"Some days she couldn't get out of bed," she said.

She has faith Laurel will come home and hopes she is safe. To keep people aware of Laurel's disappearance, she has passed out flyers around the community as far as Ormond Beach and stood in front of the police department headquarters with signs. Laurel's face has also appeared on billboards and bus ads seeking tips.

Additionally, city officials donated space for Ms. Rogers and other family members to get the word out during the National Night Out Against Crime Block Party in August and Port Orange Family Days in October.

"At this point, I'm her voice," Ms. Rogers said. "I've got to speak for Laurel to keep her name out there and it's not going to stop until I have her back."

As she looks at Laurel's bedroom, left in the same condition as it was on the day she left, she grows emotional, wondering where her daughter could be after all this time.

"Every day I wake up like it's the first day (she went missing), the pain is so intense," she said. "It's devastated our whole family."

Family plans vigil for missing Port Orange woman

News that a body was found one week ago hit a Port Orange woman especially hard since her daughter has been missing for almost a year now.

A Medical Examiner's report determined it was not her daughter.

Remains found in a Ormond Beach industrial park were in an advanced state of decomposition.

But the Medical Examiner determined it was a woman, between 20 to 45 years old, with light brown, to dirty blonde hair, about five foot two.

It's mixed news for Loretta Rogers who learned it was not her daughter's body. Mixed because her daughter, Laurel Rogers is still out there.

"If for other people I feel their sorrow as much as I feel my own. Because you just never know," Loretta said.

Laurel walked out of her home in February and vanished. Now, almost one year later, the family is preparing to hold a candlelight vigil in Port Orange.

But this family is not alone.

The mother of a missing South Daytona woman, Pamela Will turned over DNA evidence to see if the body found in Ormond Beach is her daughter's.

Over the past three years, the Volusia county sheriff's office has received reports of four missing adults, and 43 since
1982.

"I'm not preparing past one day at a time. I can't, I can't. I'm barely surviving day by day, let alone thinking about tomorrow," Loretta said.

Rogers says she continues to brace for the worst, but hopes her daughter will walk through these doors once again.

However, it's the gut wrenching agony of the unknown that's most painful.

"I'm sick right now with worry. Because the unknown, devastating -- everyday, everyday the unknown, to wake up every morning and think you might have to deal with this, just don't know," Loretta said.

That candlelight vigil for Laurel is Monday evening, Jan. 31 at the Port Orange Amphitheatre at 5:30 p.m.

The Rogers family is inviting the public to attend.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Family members of missing woman Laurel Rogers held a candlelight vigil Monday night in the hopes that anyone who knows something about her disappearance will come forward.

The Rogers family said they are hoping the candlelight vigil will remind someone of a memory relating to Laurel Rogers' disappearance and convince them to go to the police.

Rogers' mother, Lauretta Rogers, said she is worried that her daughter, who has lupus, needs medication for chronic pain.

Police said the 29-year-old disappeared in February of last year, and police in Port Orange said she was last seen leaving her home on Horizon View Boulevard.

Investigators said they believe someone picked up Lauren Rogers, since her car was broken down, and that person or people are preventing her from coming home.

Her mother, Lauretta Rogers, said she believes her daughter left the home they share with someone she knew.

"There's no doubt in my mind that when she left this house, she thought she was coming home. She would not do this to her family," Lauretta Rogers said.

There has been no activity on Laurel Rogers' bank account and cell phone, but her mother said she is continuing to pay the bill, hoping that, one day, her daughter will answer.

Tip leads to search of ponds for missing Port Orange woman

Laurel Lea Rogers Rogers A pair of dive teams spent Friday searching the bottom of three Port Orange ponds for a missing young woman whose disappearance more than a year ago remains unsolved.

But the divers found no sign of Laurel Rogers, who was 28 when she disappeared from her home last February.

"It was the only thing that came in so far that warranted this much involvement," Port Orange Police Capt. Frank Surmaczewicz said of the search, sprung from a tipster's call to Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida.

Divers started working about 9 a.m. and called off the search about 4 p.m., having found nothing in any of the three retention ponds surrounding a large, empty building at Williamson Boulevard and Madeline Avenue.

Jennifer Kesse, other missing people get billboard space this weekend

Photographs of Jennifer Kesse of Orlando and other missing Floridians will appear on electronic billboards across the state through this weekend as part of the Florida Missing Children's Day.

Kesse vanished from her condominium near the Mall at Millenia in January 2006. Laurel Lea Rogers, a Port Orange woman who has been missing since February 2010, also will be featured on the billboards.

In all, 28 missing people will be featured on billboard space donated by advertisers with the Florida Outdoor Advertising Association, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Port Orange woman named in missing-persons campaign

State officials are trying to raise awareness about several missing-person cases, including one involving a Port Orange woman.

On Monday, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement plans to hold its annual Florida Missing Children's Day in Tallahassee to honor and remember those who have vanished without a trace.

To lead into the event, the FDLE has partnered with several advertising agencies that have donated electronic billboards to feature 28 missing children and adults, including Laurel Lea Rogers.

Rogers hasn't been seen since February 2010 when she left her Port Orange home.

"We're doing anything we can do," said Lauretta Rogers, Laurel's mother. "I gotta be strong for her."

PORT ORANGE -- The family of a woman who vanished two years ago want Central Floridians to know it's not just Michele Parker and Jennifer Kesse who is missing.

News 13 spoke with the mother who said she listens to her daughter's voice every day.

Laurel Rogers vanished two years as of Feb 1st. Her mother, Lauretta Rogers hopes for clues that'll lead them to Laurel.

There has been no activity on the cell phone and no bank activity since 01/29/2010.
