Family Pleads for Help Finding Missing Woman

Posted: March 11, 2010 11:05 PM
Updated: March 11, 2010 11:13 PM

Todd Unger

OMAHA (KPTM)–Douglas County sheriff's investigators are asking for the public's help in finding an Omaha woman.

Her parents last saw Jennifer Andersen, 33, early Tuesday morning.  Andersen family members told FOX 42 Thursday their parents were in town to help Jennifer get through a rough time.  Still, they say they never expected her to just up and leave

"It's just so unlike her," says Josh Andersen, Jennifer's brother.  "It just makes you feel empty."

Douglas County Sheriff's Investigator Brenda Wheeler says they have few, if any, leads.  She says Jennifer hasn't accessed credit cards, bank accounts, and left without her purse and cell phone.

"For her to have left her phone and purse is just cause for concern," she says.

Wheeler won't elaborate on what exactly had Jennifer so distressed prior to her disappearance.  She says they do consider the situation an 'endangered missing person' case.  Family told FOX 42 Jennifer is supposed to be on medication, which she also didn't take with her.

Authorities say folks should keep an eye out for Jennifer's car, a 2001 Chevy Lumina with Nebraska plates RJK303.  She is described as 5"7, 115 lbs., and has blond hair.

Foul play is not suspected.

Anyone with any information should contact the Douglas County Tip Line at 402-444–6000.

Police search for missing Omaha woman

(3/18/2010) By Adam Lefkoe - On Tuesday March 9th, Jennifer Andersen was reported missing in Omaha. Nine days later, friends and family all over the state are still searching.

In her hometown of Sutton Thursday, people were somber and very worried. Sutton might be more than 2 hours away from Omaha, but the population of less than 1500 is holding a search of their own.

Saunders Avenue in Sutton is the main strip. Thursday, restaurants and businesses share a distressing sign.

"They are everywhere. I have seen them in ever business I have been into. They are in the post office, they are everywhere," said Lisa Griess.

Jennifer Andersen is missing. Last seen in Omaha 9 days ago.

And while she has not lived in Sutton for 15 years the city will search for her as one of their own.

"My husband's kids went to school with Jennifer and I kept thinking, it could be one of our kids," said Huldah Brown.

Sutton is not only searching the streets. Many are part of the more than 4,000 people that have joined the Search for Jennifer Andersen Facebook group.

For former neighbors it is a way to stay informed.

"Everybody is just going on there to watching progress, just hoping for a glimpse of hope that there is some news that Jennifer can be brought home safe," said Griess.

The Andersen family said the long list of friends is meaningful. Backing up the incredible person they say Jennifer is.

The family is taking this time to reflect and continue their search.

"There is not much to say. You just kind of try to be there," said Jennifer's brother Josh Andersen.

The people of Sutton will continue to help anyway they can.

You can help as well by joining the Facebook group at http://www.facebook....id=407651683384

Or you can easily print out missing person fliers and post them up around your town.

River Search Offers No Clues In Woman's Disappearance
Jennifer Andersen Disappeared 3 Weeks Ago

POSTED: 4:55 pm CDT March 26, 2010
UPDATED: 5:01 pm CDT March 26, 2010

OMAHA, Neb. --
An extensive search of the Missouri River floor and sides turned up no signs of a missing Omaha woman. Jennifer Andersen disappeared three weeks ago.

Police found her car last week near Rick's Boatyard Café in downtown Omaha.

Search and rescue crews used sonar imaging technology to view images of the river floor in search of any sign of Andersen.

"I can see every rock, every log, every fish even. That's what this system was designed to do," said Dennis Watters with the team.

Crews will search the Iowa side of the river next. Foul play isn't suspected.

The Search continues for a Missing Omaha Woman

(3/27/2010) By Amy West - Rain poured in Omaha this morning but the wet weather was no barrier to family and friends of Jennifer Andersen. They spent the morning searching for any clue along the Missouri river that might lead to the 33–year–old–who grew up in Edgar.

Looking for comfort and closure Jennifer Andersen's friends and family band together.

“Well, we have a lot of hope it has been two and a half weeks since she has been missing but we still have a lot of hope;” said Josh Anderson, Jennifer’s Brother.

Hope that along the Missouri River, near where Jennifer's car was found, they will find some clue to point them in the right direction.

“There is a lot of walking trails around here. There is a lot of activity that goes on around here so her car was here in the middle of the night. If it was her that drove it here, you know, we do not have answers to any of those questions yet,” said Josh Anderson.

“We will all have posters out, we will be looking for any pieces of clothing and car keys anything that might give us any answers on where she might be,” said Kristal Baker, Private Investigator.

This is just one of many searches. Friday a sonar search over more than three miles of the river turned up nothing.

“We had someone search inside the river yesterday and also A–T–V's out looking. No solid leads have reached though,” said Kristal Baker.

Volunteers from around her hometown, old friends from college, coworkers, The Red Cross and a volunteer search and a rescue team from Hastings all hope that will change and they will find out what happened to Jennifer.

“She is just a wonderful person and an amazing person who has had a positive impact on so many different people. She has friends all over the United States and the least we could do was come out and spend the day searching,” said Molly Mayber, Jennifer’s College Friend.

“She is really energetic. Really bubbly personality, you would not forget her if you met her. She is really fun to be around. Very social,” said Josh Anderson.

Investigators said Jennifer's keys have not been recovered and instructed volunteers to keep an eye out for a ring with at least four keys.

Search Continues For Missing Omaha Woman

The search continues for a local woman who has been missing for nearly three weeks now. Her family and friends have held vigils, formed awareness groups, and posted fliers for miles, hoping someone will come forward with some answers.

The last time Karen and Carl Andersen saw their 33-year-old daughter, Jennifer, was nearly three weeks ago.

"I got up and hugged and kissed her and told her I loved her and kind of reluctantly went to bed," said Karen Andersen, Jennifer's mother. "Then when we woke up at 7:30 in the morning, she was gone."

The loving parents drove from their home near Hastings to comfort their daughter on March 8, who was struggling with depression.

In the middle of the night, she left a note saying she'd gone for a drive.

"The demons start forming in your mind and you start thinking of the dark side of life," said Carl Andersen, Jennifer's father.

Five days after Jennifer went missing, her car was found at Rick's Cafe Boatyard's parking lot. Her parents say her car was locked, her keys were gone, but her purse was still inside. That leads to more questions for her parents. "Did she walk up to the interstate and hitch a ride with a trucker?" asked Karen. "Did somebody accost her somewhere? We don't know, we just don't have answers for any of those questions and those are the things that just..." Karen trailed off, but Carl finished her sentence. "...haunt you day and night."

Fliers are posted all across town, especially in the Old Market where Jennifer, a nurse, and her friends, liked to go out.

"She's such a bubbly, vivacious personality, just so full of energy and everything," said Carl.

The Andersens have hired a private investigator to fill in the gaps of the police investigation, whose search of the Missouri River turned up nothing.

"Of course we're hopeful, we'd like nothing more than to find her and have her back home with us," said Karen. "But it's real easy to think of dark things too, but we keep praying, and there are millions of people praying for her and God knows where she is, and we just keep praying that God will bring her back to us."

More than 11,000 people have become members of a support page on Facebook. The family asks anyone with information to call the Douglas County Sheriff's office at 402-444-6000.

Few leads for Omaha woman missing since March

By JOE DUGGAN / Lincoln Journal Star | Posted: Wednesday, April 7, 2010 6:30 am |

Missing person information

Jennifer Andersen
Age: 33
Hair: blond
Height: 5-foot-7
Weight: 110 pounds
Distinguishing marks: flower tattoo on ankle and salamander tattoo on toe
Call Douglas County Sheriff's Office with tips at (402) 444-6000.

Despite extraordinary search efforts, an Edgar family has few leads nearly a month after their daughter's disappearance.

Jennifer Andersen, 33, was last seen at her Omaha apartment about 1 a.m. on March 9. Investigators found her car six days later near the Missouri River.

She has never before cut off contact with family and friends, said her brother, Josh Andersen. Although authorities have found no sign of foul play, the family fears the worst.

"Those are the places your mind keeps going and it worries you sick," the rural Edgar farmer said Tuesday.

Within the past two weeks, loved ones have organized searches by foot and all-terrain vehicle along several miles of river. They also got help from a Texas organization that used high-tech sonar to search the river channel.

The searches turned up no evidence, her brother said, so the family hired a private investigator and is trying to get certified divers to search the river.

In the meantime, they are appealing for anyone who may have seen her to come forward.

Jennifer Andersen grew up on the farm of her parents, Carl and Karen Andersen, near Edgar. She attended Sutton High School and Doane College in Crete.

She works as a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

On March 9, her parents were staying with her at her apartment near 120th and Blondo streets. She had been troubled, she told them, and needed to go for a drive. She left about 1 a.m.

When her parents woke the next morning, they realized she had not returned and immediately were concerned.

"She's never been anyone to quit anything," Josh Andersen said. "She's never missed work. That's why it's particularly worrisome to us."

Douglas County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Gentile said her car was found near Rick's Boatyard Cafe, not far from the Missouri River and close to recreational trails and the pedestrian bridge.

Her purse was in the car and she left her cell phone at her apartment. None of her credit cards or financial accounts have been used since she disappeared.

Although they've ruled nothing out, authorities have found no evidence that she was attacked or abducted, Gentile said Tuesday.

Her friends set up a Facebook page to share information and help organize searches. As of Tuesday, nearly 15,000 people had joined the page.

"I think she touched a lot of people's lives," her brother said. "They don't want her to be out of their lives."

Residents of nearby Sutton plastered missing flyers all over town, said Pam Overturf, a friend of the Andersen family.

"I think everybody is anxious about the situation and they're hoping and praying for her return," she said.

Bring Jen Home benefit held for missing Omaha woman

(5/15/10) By Rachel Lake - It's been more than two months since Jennifer Andersen disappeared from her Omaha home.

As you can imagine each day has been agonizing for family and friends.

But they are not giving up hope.

Saturday they held a benefit called Bring Jen Home. This event included food, music, a silent auction and bake sale.

Proceeds will help fund more searches... So far there are no leads.

Andersen's car was found along the Missouri River near Rick's Boatyard Café with her wallet inside.

Parents keep hope alive in search for missing daughter

(5/14/2010) By Katie Ferrell - It is like she disappeared into thin air. That is the way the parents of 33 year old Jennifer Andersen describe how their daughter went missing in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 9th.
Now, Karen and Carl Andersen share their hope for her safe return.

"It is just the worst thing in the world to not know where she is," said Karen.

On Monday March 8th, Karen and Carl Andersen spent the night with their daughter at her Omaha apartment. They talked, went to dinner, then to bed. When they woke up, Jen was gone.

"We do not know where she is. We do not know anything, any more then we knew when she left," said Karen.

It has now been more than 2 months since the registered nurse left a note that night saying she was going for a drive.

Her car has since been found, but no signs, no clues as to where she went.

"Anything is possible at this point, we have no clues to disprove or prove anything. Anything you can imagine is a possibility," said Carl.

Karen and Carl made the visit from Edgar that night because Jen had been feeling depressed.

There is speculation she may have hurt herself, investigators tell the Andersen's they think she went in the water, but still no evidence, no cell phone use, no credit cards.

"We feel there is just as good a chance she could be somewhere else, other than in the river, because if she were walking, somebody could have picked her up," Karen said.

Despite no new clues, the Andersen's are not giving up, and they are doing what they can. Land and water searches continue. They are keeping Jen's name in the media and a Find Jennifer Facebook page has skyrocketed to 20,000 members.

Support from across the state, across the country, even complete strangers.

"There has been a tremendous outpouring of help, sympathy, people have organized search parties that we knew none of the people involved, but it has been a very large effort," said Carl.

It is an effort that will not stop until Jennifer comes home.

"Until we have evidence that she is gone, a body or something we have to believe she is alive. We have to and we cannot stop looking," said Karen.

Looking for the daughter so many love and miss.

A 'Bring Jen Home Benefit' is being held Saturday in Omaha at the Lift Lounge from 1:00 until 4:00.

Karen and Carl want to clarify, Jennifer does not have a child.

The baby you saw in the video and some of the photos is one of Jennifers' nieces.

Jennifer is 5'7", about 115 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.

If you know anything you are asked to contact the Douglas county sheriff.

Edgar native's family still looking for her

Tony Herrman

EDGAR — Four months after a rural Edgar native went missing from her Omaha apartment, her family is not giving up hope that they’ll find her safe.
Jennifer Andersen, 33, disappeared March 9 from her Omaha apartment near 120th and Blondo Street.

Her car, a maroon 2001 Chevrolet Lumina with the license plate RJK303, was found a few days later near Rick’s Boatyard Café at 345 Riverfront Dr. in Omaha, which was a favorite spot of hers.

Since the restaurant is so close to the Missouri River, Interstate 480, and a walking path that winds through Omaha there are numerous places she could’ve gone.
Even though searches have been ongoing since March 9, Jennifer’s mother Karen said authorities are not gleaning much new information.

“The sheriff’s office is just saying any leads they have have not turned out to be anything substantial,” she said. “The water search is ongoing, but it’s revealing nothing.”
Coordinated by the United States Search and Rescue Team, volunteers have searched up and down the river.
“It’s being done by volunteers, but they’ve gone almost as far as Brownville,” Karen said.

Efforts Continue To Find Woman Missing Since March
Jennifer Andersen's car found by riverfront

Updated: 9:48 PM Jul 25, 2010 Posted: 8:19 PM Jul 25, 2010 Reporter: Jaime McCutcheon

Thirty-three-year-old Jennifer Andersen of Omaha disappeared without a trace on March 9th, more than four months ago. Her family and friends still have not given up hope.

"I think I'd just tell her we love her and we miss her and we're just ready for her to be back,” says Amanda Harrington, friends with Jennifer since college. When Amanda only had two bridesmaids in her wedding, one was her sister and the other was Jennifer.

"She's a very compassionate person, very caring and she also on the other side just has this crazy sense of humor and can just make you laugh until your stomach hurts.”

But behind the glowing smile was pain. Jennifer’s parents told Channel 6 News last March they had driven to Omaha from Hastings to help Jennifer deal with a bout of depression. The night she disappeared, she left a note saying she was going for a drive. That was the last time anyone saw her.

"She was going through some issues at the time, but she seemed to be dealing with them and even while going through those issues, this still seemed very uncharacteristic of her,” says Amanda.

Despite all the searches, the vigils and the Facebook page, the only sign of Jennifer since that night was found in the parking lot of Rick's Boatyard Café by the Missouri River. Her car was found parked there locked, the keys gone, but her purse still inside.

"I would say finding her car gave me both hope and fear, little fearful of where they found it, down by the river, but hope that we at least had some lead and that's the thing we've been lacking so much of is leads."

Amanda hopes her pictures and her story brings any bit of information, so one day soon she can make new pictures together with her best friend. "We're not giving up on her, she wouldn't give up on any of us and we know she's out there so we're just going to keep looking."

Andersen's family and friends continue to conduct searches. They are in the process of making up new missing person fliers. There is also the Facebook page to help find Andersen that has grown to more than 2,800 followers.

Anyone with information about Andersen’s disappearance is asked to call police.
