Press Release

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and Child Abuse Prevention Month
Missing and Exploited Children’s Advocates and Searching Families Will Gather to Honor Missing Children

Posted Image

Families who have experienced the loss of a child through violence or abduction and advocates fighting to assist and prevent future violence against children will gather for a candlelight vigil to raise awareness at Lykes Gaslight Park in Tampa.

WHAT: AMECO (Association of Missing and Exploited Children’s Organizations) will hold a candlelight vigil to honor missing children.

WHO: 30 nonprofit organizations dedicated to issues involving crimes against children as well as local searching families of missing children will be in attendance.  Many leading organizations have suffered the violent loss of a family member.  In attendance will be representatives from  A Child is Missing, Polly Klaas Foundation, The Tommy Foundation, Project Jason, Laura Recovery Center, the Morgan Nick Foundation, radKIDS and many other organizations.

WHERE: Lykes Gaslight Park in Tampa, FL
(The park is located at 410 N. Franklin Street (the corner of Kennedy and Franklin) in downtown Tampa.)

WHEN: April 13, 2011 @ 6 pm

WHAT ELSE: AMECO is a multi-national association of missing and exploited children organizations.  AMECO members are nonprofit organizations from across the US and Canada that work to help missing and exploited children, their families and communities and that offer education/awareness programs to promote child protection.  AMECO members assist in the prevention, recovery and reunification of missing and exploited children.

AMECO organizations operate independently and are founded by community volunteer groups who decide formally to provide services for missing and exploited children.  Many nonprofit organizations are named for a child missing from that community.  They are founded generally by either the family of the child who may be still missing or sadly found deceased, or by community members who were moved to action after a child in their own area has gone missing.

Our note: Families of missing adults are also welcome. Kelly Jolkowski, President and Founder of Project Jason, will be present.
