Officials take day to regroup in search for missing Pollock man
11:00 PM, Mar. 2, 2012
PINEVILLE -- Tim Delaney of Pollock is looking for closure in the search for his father, J.W. "Jim" Delaney, who disappeared on Feb. 21.
Delaney is grateful for community volunteers and law enforcement efforts in trying to find his father, who went missing after going to a friend's house to hunt.
"We notified authorities around 9 p.m. (Feb. 21) that my father was missing. My father is 78 years old and from Pollock and isn't a man you could miss," Delaney said. "My father is 6-foot-4 and weighs 250 pounds. He was wearing camouflage and went hunting around the Flagon Creek area. I just want him to return to us."
Grant Parish Sheriff's Deputy Jody Bullock said the Sheriff's Office was notified the night Delaney disappeared. Bullock said law enforcement and the Pollock community have helped to search for Delaney every day since his disappearance.
"Jim Delaney went to his friend's house in the Hooper Road and Airbase Road area in Pollock to go hunting," Bullock said. "We've had three different teams of dogs looking for him, State Police helicopters and National Guard helicopters look for him. We know he suffered from health problems."
Bullock said authorities don't suspect foul play in the disappearance, but investigators are "open to all possibilities."
Delaney said his father loves to hunt squirrels and ducks with a shotgun.
"My father supposedly walked off from where his friend lives with his shotgun," Delaney said. "My father does suffer from mild dementia, Alzheimer's and also had two strokes that he takes medication for. He's able to get around and pay his bills, and he doesn't walk with a cane."
Tim Delaney has two sisters who take care of their sick mother in Shreveport.
"I've been informing my sisters of what's been happening. I told them to continue to watch after our mother," he said. "I'm praying for my father's safe return."
Bullock said the community response to Delaney's disappearance shows that residents in the parish care for one another.
"We've also had horse clubs come assist in the search," Bullock said. "This situation has brought a lot of people closer. We've searched the area up, down, left and right. We didn't search (on Friday) because we wanted to regroup and think of another area for searching."
Delaney asked that anyone who has seen his father or has knowledge of his father's whereabouts to call authorities.
"We've had people in groups of 55 to 75 people look for my father," Delaney said. "These people didn't have to join in the search, but I'm thankful that they are helping."
Anyone with information can call the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office at (318) 627-3261.
