Wife of missing Bowie Co. man speaks out

BOWIE COUNTY, AR (KSLA) - It has been nearly a month since a Bowie County man went missing. KSLA News 12 spoke with his wife about her hopes and fears.

The Bowie County Sheriff's Department says they have been actively searching for 57-year-old Steven Jones who has been missing for 25 days. Steven's wife, Lynne, says her husband left for a short motorcycle ride on March 16th but never returned.

Deputies say they believe Jones may have run off the road while riding his motorcycle. Deputies have not indicated any foul play, but it is a concern for Lynne. Lynne says her husband became an activist when his son was found dead in Cass County from an apparent overdose in 2000. Bowie County Sheriff's Department officials say they interviewed subjects who made threats against Jones shortly before he went missing. "He has made a lot of enemies I say in both worlds. The drug nasty world and he has made is enemies in the law enforcement," says Lynne. Investigators say those subjects have been ruled out at suspects at this time.

"My big dream is that he just somehow, somewhere, someway developed amnesia and he will be home some time," says Lynne.

The family is offering a $750 reward for information regarding Steven Jones' whereabouts. If anyone has information they are asked to call their local sheriff's department.

Texarkana man still missing two years later

By Julie ParrCONNECT

Texarkana, Texas - It's been two years, since a Bowie County, Texas man disappeared.

Steve Jones went for a motorcycle ride on March 16th, 2012 without money or medications.

He never returned home.

"It's really hard not knowing what happen to him," said Kathy Sturdivant, Jones' sister.

Sturdivant says her brother told his family he was going for a short ride on his motorcycle to cool off from doing yard work, but he never returned home.

Over the last couple years, there have been numerous searches which included, horseback, ATV's and helicopters.

There have been a few tips reported about Jones.

Sturdivant says about a year ago, one person reported seeing her brother on South Stateline on the day he reportedly went missing.

"There was another lead that he had been close lined on his motorcycle and taken to a salvage yard and his body was dumped there," said Sturdivant.

She says authorities did not find credibility to that story.

Jones was last seen on his purple 1983 Honda Shadow motorcycle.

Family members believe he was a victim of foul play and someone knows what happened to him.

"Steve was disabled and that was his home," explained Sturdivant. "He had a wife and child. He would never leave and not come back."

If you have any information on this case, contact the Bowie County Sheriff's Office at 903-798-3149.

Wallet, remains found near motorcycle of missing Bowie Co. man

Posted: Nov 25, 2015 12:40 PM EST Updated: Dec 09, 2015 12:52 PM EST

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

Skeletal remains have been found near the motorcycle belonging to a Bowie County man missing since 2012.

Bowie County Sheriff James Prince says pants and a wallet were found with the remains, which are believed to be those of Steven Curtis Jones.

Jones' 1983 Honda Shadow was found Tuesday morning off of Garber St. near Old Buchanan Rd. in Texarkana, TX after a driver passing by caught sunlight glinting off of something in the woods.

K9 search and rescue teams were brought in to search the area Tuesday and turned up a shoe, but ended at sundown with no sign of Jones himself.

The search resumed Wednesday morning, with the remains found around 9:30 a.m.

Sheriff Prince said the remains will be sent to a forensic lab to confirm the identification.

According to authorities, preliminary reports suggest the motorcycle crash was the result of an accident.

Jones has been missing since March 16, 2012, when he left his Liberty-Eylau home on his motorcycle around 7 p.m. to to cool off after doing yard work.

His wife reported him missing when he didn't return.
