Family, police stumped in disappearance
By Alyssa Sutton July 22, 2015 10:28 am
ore than a month after the disappearance of Neli-Cristina Rogers, family and local law enforcement are no closer to explaining what happened to the 27-year-old.
Sgt. Jason Hays of the La Grande Police Department was initially contacted June 20 by a friend of Rogers about her disappearance.
Currently the La Grande Police Department, the Oregon State Police, the Baker City Police, the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the Klamath Falls Police and the Union County Search and Rescue team are involved in the search for Rogers.
“Every time I get a report, we follow up on it,” Hays said. “Nothing has panned out yet. I really think people just don’t know where she is.”
Rogers was last seen between 10 p.m. and
11 p.m. June 19 in La Grande. Rogers, who moved back to La Grande in May after living in Klamath Falls for several years, was last seen with friends the night she disappeared. The La Grande Police tried to trace her cellphone to see if that would give them any leads on her whereabouts.
Hays said that a cellphone with a GPS makes tracking a phone’s location fairly accurate. However, Rogers’ cellphone was not equipped with GPS.
“Her phone sent a signal off of two towers, both in La Grande. Where those two towers intersect was her last general location, which was La Grande,” Hays said.
Rogers has not used her cellphone since the night of June 19 and there has not been any activity on her bank account or social media accounts, Hays said.
Since Rogers moved to the Grande Ronde Valley only a few months ago, the Klamath Falls Police Department is assisting in the search.
“I’ve contacted her friends in Klamath Falls to see if they know anything,” Hays said. “So far, no leads have turned up.”
The LGPD sergeant added that more information is needed in order to deploy a search and rescue party.
“With a mushroom picker or a hunter, if they go missing, we’ll have a general area we know we can deploy search and rescue to,” Hays said. “But in this case we can’t, because we don’t even have a general area.”
Rogers’ sister, Amber Rogers, who lives in Vancouver, Washington, found out about the disappearance on June 29 when her father, Richard “Dick” Rogers, called to inform her. Amber Rogers contacted the La Grande Police Department on June 30.
According to a secondhand report, Amber Rogers said on June 18 her sister was involved in a verbal altercation with a female friend over money that was owed to her sister.
“On June 19, a friend took Neli-Cristina to her storage unit where she was keeping extra cash to buy a house,” Amber Rogers said. “(According to the friend) Neli-Cristina was upset that she was having to pull money from her savings and she wouldn’t have to if the other friend had paid her the money owed.”
Friends believe Neli-Cristina Rogers had approximately $300 in the storage unit and retrieved at least $100, Amber Rogers said. Around 8:57 p.m. Neli-Cristina Rogers posted on Facebook that she had “finally snapped,” but she went on to share a few posts later that night.
“(Friends said that) the evening of June 19 they were spending time together and having a good time when Neli-Cristina freaked out and left,” Amber Rogers said. “Her friends said that they tried to stop her but that she was intoxicated, got in her truck and drove away.”
Hays said he went through pictures on Rogers’ Facebook account in an effort to find anything that might lead him in a particular direction.
“There are a lot of cliffs around here,” Hays said. “I looked through her Facebook pictures and personally went and looked in familiar places.”
If you see her
Neli-Cristina Rogers is of Romanian descent and is 5-foot-6, 180 pounds, with a dark complexion. She has a piercing above her lip, a small tattoo of two birds on her left hand and a tattoo of two large angel wings on her back.

Former Klamath Falls woman reported missing
By STEPHEN FLOYD H&N Staff Reporter Jul 27, 201
Authorities are expanding their search for a former Klamath Falls woman missing since June, according to the La Grande Police Department.
Neli-Christina Rogers, 27, was last seen the evening of June 19 leaving a friend’s house in La Grand driving her white ‘97 Ford F-250 pickup with license plate ZGP-926. Rogers had moved to La Grande in May from Klamath Falls, according to her family, who also live in La Grande.
While potential sightings of Rogers and her truck have been reported in recent weeks from locations as far as Sumpter, she remains missing and police are seeking the public’s help to locate her.
Rogers has been described as 5-foot, 6-inches tall, 180 pounds with a dark complexion, dark eyes and brown hair. She has a lip piercing, a small bird tattoo on her left hand and two large angel tattoos on her back. She was last seen wearing gray jeans, a black jersey-type shirt with silver numbers and a multi-colored crystal necklace.
It has been noted Rogers left behind a pet dog and cat, as well as her wallet and ID. Authorities said they have found no activity on her bank accounts or cell phone since June 20, when her cell phone was pinged around 2 a.m. in downtown La Grande.
Those with information regarding the disappearance of Rogers are encouraged to call the La Grande Police Department at 541-963-1017, or local law enforcement. Additional updates may also be found at www.facebook.com/findnelicristinarogers.

LA GRANDE: Truck and body of missing woman found
Posted on September 9, 2015
On September 9, 2015 at 2:45 pm, La Grande Police Detectives located missing person Nellie Christine Rogers’ 1997 Ford pickup which was the vehicle she was last seen in. The pickup was at the bottom of a very steep ravine just off highway 82 near mile post 30. Detectives were able to access the pickup and determine there were human remains inside. A positive identification has not been made but evidence at the scene indicates the remains are those of Nellie Rogers. There is no evidence of foul play and the scene is consistent with a single vehicle, single occupant, crash into the ravine.
The La Grande Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Search and Rescue, La Grande Rural Fire Department and Oregon State Police. Their assistance and expertise in this case is greatly appreciated. I also want to commend Detective Sgt. Jason Hays, Detective Sgt. Dusty Perry and Detective Mike Harris for their exceptional work in this case.
