PORTLAND, Ore. -- Come Friday, it will have been six months since 8-year-old Kyron Horman mysteriously disappeared from his school.

The missing boy's family issued a statement in anticipation of the grim aniversary.

"We recognize that it has now been 6 months since Kyron went missing and we are still deeply saddened that he is not home with us. We feel the investigation continues to move forward in a positive manner and is progressing toward finding out what happened to Kyron," the statement said.

The family added they're still receiving regular updates from law enforcement officials, and are confident the boy will be found.

"We all still remain focused and relentless in the pursuit of bringing Kyron home," said the statement, which also urged the public to keep an eye out for the boy.

"We would like to stress to everyone that Kyron has not yet been found and we need everyone's help. We still need everyone willing to pass out fliers and/or post them in high visibility areas. If you are travelling, attending holiday events, out shopping, or even shipping packages from your business you can help.

"We can help get fliers to you if you need them to pass out, post, or ship. Kyron still needs all of us.

"We love you Kyron and we will never give up hope," the statement said.

The boy disappeared after his stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman, dropped him off at Skyline Elementary School on June 4.

Terri has not been named as a suspect; however, there is some speculation of a possible involvement.

An acquaintance said the woman was very upset in the weeks before her stepson vanished because her husband, Kaine Horman, was making her teenage son move out of the couple's Portland home.

According to the acquaintance, who wished to remain anonymous, Terri came to a 24-Hour Fitness a month or two before Kyron Horman disappeared. Terri was furious and complained to anyone who would listen that her husband was allegedly making her teenage son move out, the acquaintance said.

Terri's son did move out of the home in March. And friends who exercised with Terri at the fitness club testified before a grand jury in August.

Kaine Horman, father of the missing boy, filed for divorce on June 28. He also filed a restraining order against Terri after investigators told him she conspired to have him killed. Kyron is Kaine's son from a previous marriage, and the couple has a daughter together.

Investigators conducted additional searches in August near Skyline School, as well as three other sites with connections to Terri's friend named DeDe Spicher, according to sources.

Lawyer and former Multnomah County Capt. Bruce McCain said the searchers could very well be looking for one of at least three cell phones friends purchased for Terri under fictitious names.

"They're looking for physical evidence," McCain said. "Either something physically associated with Kyron himself, any kind of tools or implements that may have been involved in his disappearance criminally, and also possibly a discarded cell phone that they'd like to retrieve and gather all the data from that."

The sheriff's office confirmed the searches were tied to the Horman case, but would not say what searchers were looking for.

Sources at the courthouse would not confirm the alleged rift between Terri and Kaine in the days before the boy's disappearance, and whether it could have been a possible motive.

Terri's attorney, Stephen Houze, said his client is receiving "threats of harm," and is having trouble finding a place to live. He called the media coverage and the investigation a "witch hunt" against his client.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Parents issue new plea for missing Oregon boy
The parents of Kyron Horman, who was last seen June 4, are reminding the public that help is needed in finding their son.

By the CNN Wire Staff December 3, 2010 6:27 a.m. EST

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

    * More than $1 million has been spent on the effort to find Kyron Horman so far
    * The 8-year-old has been missing since June
    * No arrests have been made in his disappearance

(CNN) -- The biological parents of an Oregon boy missing for six months have issued a new appeal to help bring the 8-year-old home.

Kyron Horman was last seen June 4. His stepmother, Terri Horman, said she dropped him off at school that morning.

In divorce filings, Kaine Horman said he believes his estranged wife, Terri Horman, "is involved" in the boy's disappearance. The stepmother has been the subject of intense scrutiny for several months. Court documents also allege Terri Horman attempted to hire a man to kill her husband.

No arrests have been made in Kyron's disappearance.

"We feel the investigation continues to move forward in a positive manner and is progressing toward finding out what happened to Kyron," his biological parents, Kaine Horman and Desiree Young, told CNN affiliate KGW in Portland. "Briefings continue with law enforcement on a regular basis and we remain confident in the commitment of law enforcement and in the mission to find our son."

More than $1 million had been spent on the effort to find Kyron, Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton said in September.

"We have taken critical hits in all of the units throughout the agency to support this investigation," he said at the time.

The boy's parents urged the public not to forget their son.

"We all still remain focused and relentless in the pursuit of bringing Kyron home," they told KGW. "We would like to stress to everyone that Kyron has not yet been found and we need everyone's help. We still need everyone willing to pass out fliers and/or post them in high visibility areas. Kyron still needs all of us."

Kyron's parents marked his 8th birthday in September by releasing red balloons outside a church in Medford, Oregon.

The boy's disappearance prompted his school -- Skyline Elementary -- to add additional security measures to protect the children and staff. In a letter to parents, Principal Ben Keefer said video cameras would be installed at the school.

"These cameras will show external views of the building as well as the main hallway," he wrote.

Security procedures will be reviewed to ensure they are effective, he added.

Search for Kyron Horman resumes today north and west of Portland

Published: Sunday, January 30, 2011, 5:00 AM    Updated: Sunday, January 30, 2011, 9:08 AM

The seven-month search for missing Kyron Horman turns its focus today on two rural locations north and west of Portland as investigators run down specific intelligence they've developed and warmer weather conditions now provide a window of opportunity.

Between 40 to 50 search-and-rescue workers, along with up to seven cadaver-detecting dogs, will be combing the dense forested area around turnouts, trailheads, and gated logging roads along a stretch of Northwest Skyline Road, south of Rocky Point Road and a gravel road further north in the Dixie Mountain area.

The private timber land crosses into unincorporated areas of Multnomah, Washington and Columbia counties, and reaches elevations of between 1,000 and 1,500 feet.

"Weather conditions prevented the searching of these two locations a month or six weeks ago because of the snow up there, and dogs are not effective when it's below 40 degrees," said Multnomah County Sheriff's Sgt. Keith Krafve, a supervisor of the Kyron Horman Task Force.

"There're very specific reasons why we're here," said Multnomah County deputy sheriff Mark Herron, a search and rescue coordinator on the task force.

"We'll be looking for all those things that are Kyron associated," he said, adding that the searchers will also be looking for anything that might have been left by those involved with Kyron's disappearance.

Kyron hasn't been seen since he disappeared from Skyline School the morning of June 4. His stepmother Terri Moulton Horman had driven him to school early that morning for the school science fair and told investigators she last saw him walking to his classroom about 8:45 a.m. He never made it to his class but wasn't reported missing until that afternoon, after his father, Kaine Horman, and stepmother discovered he was not aboard the school bus after school. They went to the school to find him, prompting the school secretary to call 9-1-1 at 3:46 p.m.

Today's search will mark the latest in what's already been the largest search operation in the state's history with no evidence of the boy unearthed.

Stacks of maps in the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office "war room" plot the 155 square miles already scoured, mostly land around the school, property around the Horman home off Northwest Sheltered Nook Road, and land and waterways surrounding Sauvie Island, the focus of the most recent searches.

Investigators declined to identify the leads directing them to these two new locations. But past searches at Sauvie Island resulted from the analysis of cell phone tower pings, viable tips, or statistical probabilities from studies of other missing child cases, officials said.

"We're not going to be out searching anything unless we have an investigative purpose," Herron said.

The locations that will be combed today are remote, with residences few and far between. On Saturday, a heavy fog shrouded the wooded area for most of the early morning, and few cars passed. Ground searches will be directed to specific turnouts, trailheads or areas that a vehicle could pull in, and then conduct a 300-foot radius search of the sites, depending on the steepness of the terrain.

"You could see the hazards we're going to face," Herron said, stepping over discarded screens, wood filled with nails, broken glass and shotgun shells at one gated logging road off Northwest Skyline Boulevard, south of Rocky Point Road. The spot is about 20 to 22 miles from Skyline Elementary School.

"Time has gone by, yes," Herron said. "However, the things that we'll be looking for. If they're there, they're still going to be there."

Joining the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office search and rescue unit will be volunteer searchers from Search One K9 Detection, North Oregon Regional Search and Rescue (NORSAR), Oregon K9 Search Teams, Mountain Wave Emergency Communications Inc., Yamhill County dog team and Pacific Crest Search Dogs (Skamania County).

Although authorities have not named anyone a suspect, it's clear from court documents and testimony in the pending divorce between Kyron's father and stepmother that Terri Horman remains at the center of the inquiry, as well as a handful of associates and friends of hers. No arrests have been made.

Horman, living in Roseburg with her parents, has not made any statements and is represented by prominent criminal defense attorney Stephen Houze.

The search also comes as Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton is preparing a written report updating county commissioners on the status of the nine-member multi-agency task force dedicated to investigating the missing boy's disappearance. In October, Staton submitted a 120-day business plan for the task force, and obtained an extra $209,000 to cover overtime and an investigative technician dedicated to the team. As of Nov. 29, the investigation had cost nearly $1.4 million.

Staton last week said he doesn't intend to seek additional funds, and plans to go before the board of commissioners sometime in late February to give a status report on whether or not the task force will continue its full-time work.

New search fails to find missing Oregon boy

AP News | 01/30/11 06:51 pm

A new search for an Oregon boy who's been missing for seven months was unsuccessful Sunday, but officials said the investigation into the disappearance of 8-year-old Kyron Horman will continue.

"Time is an element in that we want to get this search resolved as quickly as possible. But this young boy has been missing since June, so in terms of our investigative capabilities time isn't a factor," said Multnomah County sheriff's deputy Eric Gustafson.

The boy disappeared from his Portland school June 4. Despite a massive search and an extensive criminal investigation, no sign of the boy has been found.

Search and rescue teams equipped with cadaver-detecting dogs focused Sunday's search in areas of Dixie Mountain outside Portland. About 50 searchers combed forested areas around turnouts, trailheads and gated logging roads. A thick fog settled over the area in late afternoon and the search ended at about 5 p.m.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Mary Lindstrand said the search for Kyron resumed Sunday based on specific information received by investigators, but she declined to elaborate.

The sheriff's office said 11 areas were to be searched and the search of all those areas had not been completed. The date for the next search had yet to be determined.

Kyron's biological mother, Desiree Young, told KATU-TV that she has been waiting some time for this search to happen. She said the Kyron Horman Task Force has shared with her the information that led to the search, but she declined to share it with the media.

"I'm excited that today's search will hopefully bring some closure to this case," she told the TV station.

The last time such a search took place was in November on Sauvie Island.

Kyron Horman update: Nancy Grace to cover missing boy, as case takes grim turn
February 4th, 2011 5:39 pm ET.

Friday evening HLN show host Nancy Grace will feature the story of missing Oregon boy, Kyron Horman, as sources Thursday report that the case has officially taken a grim turn.

Grace has begun airing a special series ‘Nancy Grace: America’s Missing’ airing 50 individual cases on 50 different weekdays, following her regular nightly HLN show.

Her next installment features Kyron Horman, who vanished on June 4 after attending a Portland area school science fair with his stepmother, Terri Horman. She told authorities she last saw the then 7-year-old heading to his classroom that morning. Kyron never made it to class and has not been seen since.

Terri has been a focus of the investigation and shortly after Kyron vanished his father, Kaine Horman, served her with a restraining order and divorce papers. In court documents he’s alleged she knows what happened to Kyron and has likely caused him harm.

Sources told The Portland Tribune Thursday that investigators now believe Kyron will likely not be found alive. This statement comes after a weekend in which cadaver dogs were used to search wooded areas north and west of Portland. This is the first time officials have taken such a negative stance in the case, previously announcing they had no reason to believe the boy was deceased.

Grace’s show featuring Kyron airs Friday, Feb. 4 at 9 p.m. ET on HLN.

Kyron was wearing a “CSI” t-shirt and black cargo pants when he vanished.

Anyone with information regarding Kyron Horman’s whereabouts is asked to call the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office tip line at 503-261-2847 or call 911 with emergency information. The reward for information regarding Kyron has been increased to $50,000.

Kyron’s mother says Valentine’s Day is difficult without son
Desiree Young says she believes the child missing for eight months will be found

By Jim Redden
The Portland Tribune, Feb 13, 2011

Desiree Young and her son Kyron Horman like to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Young wrote that the holiday is difficult this year because her son has been missing for eight months.

More than eight months after Kyron Horman disappeared, his mother issued a Valentine’s Day statement saying she will not stop looking for him until he is found.

Desiree Young says she followed a family tradition and bought a gift for Kyron, placing it at the Wall of Hope set up at a fire station near Skyline School in rural Multnomah County, where he is thought to have last been seen.

Terri Horman, Kyron’s stepmother, says she brought him to the school on the morning of June 4. He was marked absent that day but the school did not notify Terri or Kaine Horman, Kyron’s father. Terri and Kaine reported Kyron missing when he did not get off the bus at home that afternoon.

Although the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office has conducted extensive searches, no sign has Kyron has turned up. Desiree Young and Kaine Horman have repeatedly accused Terri of being involved in the disappearance, but she has not been named a suspect or a person of interest in the case.

Kaine has filed for divorce and Terri is reportedly living in Roseburg, where her parents reside.

Here is Desiree Young’s statement:

“This holiday will be tough just as the others have. Valentine’s Day has always been our special day. When I was growing up my Mom always bought me some sweet little memento like a heart necklace or something special that was just for me, it made me feel loved and extremely blessed. I decided when I had kids that I would do the same. Each year I get something special for Kyron because he's my Valentine. I placed a Valentine for him at the Wall of Hope in hopes that he can feel my love for him, from wherever he is. I am deeply saddened that he is not here with me.

“Kyron I love you very much, I miss you and I want you home. I have a hole in my heart that will not be fixed until you come home. I will never give up, I will keep searching until you are in my arms again. God is looking over you and protecting you until I get there, so be brave, I am coming.

"The police and search & rescuers are still looking for you, they will not stop until you are found. We have adopted them into our family and they feel it is a personal mission to bring you home to us and they will not stop until you are home. I know that we are getting closer every day, I dream about finding you and I know they will bring you home.

“Law Enforcement continues to brief us regularly on the case, the investigation continues to march on, they will solve this case and bring Kyron home.”

Sheriff to update Kyron Horman investigation

by David Krough
kgw.com
Posted on February 18, 2011 at 12:08 PM

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton will brief commissioners on the search for missing Portland boy Kyron Horman and the state of the investigation next week.

The 7-year-old Skyline Elementary student disappeared from the school on Friday, June 4, 2010.

Staton and Lieutenant Ned Walls will brief officials next Thursday and will not ask for any increase in funding for the investigation.

Kyron's step-mom Terri-Moulton Horman, had brought him to participate in a science fair and was the last person known to have seen him. While she has not been labeled a suspect, much of the investigation has focused on her and her whereabouts that day.

No suspects have been named in the case. She and Kyron's father, Kaine Horman, are in the midst of a contentious divorce.

Earlier this month rescuers and seven cadaver search dogs combed an area of remote parts of Northwest Portland.

So far the investigation has generated over 4318 leads filling 66 binders. Detectives have subpoenaed more than 300 sets of records, which can generate from 10 to hundreds of pages of paper records each. Detectives identified all 490 persons and identified 54 vehicles that were present at Skyline School on June 4th, 2010.

A year later, Kyron’s disappearance still a painful story
Desiree Young says she will spend sad anniversary remembering her missing son

By Jennifer Anderson
The Portland Tribune, Jun 4, 2011, Updated 3.5 hours ago

At the end of this first-person essay by reporter Jennifer Anderson you can read Desiree Young’s statement on the anniversary of her son’s disappearance.

A year ago, I remember hearing the news. It was like a gut-punch to every parents’ emotions: A 7-year-old boy with spiky hair, glasses and a toothy grin — a striking resemblance to my son’s best friend — had vanished from his school in an isolated part of rural Multnomah County.

As a news reporter covering Portland Public Schools, I had been to Skyline School before.

SEATTLE -- Seventeen months have passed since Kyron Horman vanished from his elementary school in Oregon.

Since then, detectives have invested more than 26,000 hours investigating the boy's disappearance and conducted more than 3,500 interviews. The boy's stepmother still remains under intense scrutiny, but no arrests have been made in the case.

"It's a little bit of mourning for loss everyday," said the boy's father, Kaine Horman.

Mother of missing Oregon boy files lawsuit against boy's stepmother
By the CNN Wire Staff
June 1, 2012 -- Updated 2220 GMT (0620 HKT)

(CNN) -- The mother of missing Oregon boy Kyron Horman filed a civil lawsuit against the boy's stepmother Friday, alleging she is responsible for his disappearance and demanding she reveal where he is.

The suit also seeks damages of $10 million.

"I hope that I am wrong, but I fear that he is gone forever," said Kyron's mother, Desiree Young. Her son was last seen on June 4, 2010, inside his Oregon elementary school.

His stepmother, Terri Horman, told police that she'd dropped off the boy that morning at Skyline Elementary School in Portland, Oregon.

"I believe that Terri Horman knows where Kyron is. I believe that Terri Horman is responsible for where my son is. The time has come for Terri to take responsibility for what she has done and to tell me and my family where Kyron is and how he got there," said Young, struggling to speak through tears.

Any money recovered through the suit will go toward helping families and parents of other missing children, she said.

Since Kyron's disappearance, most of the speculation has focused on the boy's stepmother.

In August 2010, investigators solicited the public's help for information about the location of the white pick-up truck that she is believed to have driven the morning of then 7-year-old Kyron's disappearance.

And in divorce filings, the boy's father Kaine Horman said he believes his estranged wife, Terri Horman, "is involved" in the boy's disappearance. Court documents also allege Terri Horman tried to hire a man to kill her husband.

Still, no charges have been filed against anyone in the case, nor has anyone officially been named as a suspect -- including Horman. A call to her attorney on Friday seeking comment was not immediately returned.

The civil suit was filed when it was because there is a two-year statute of limitations on such claims, said Young's lawyer Elden Rosenthal.

There is no such statute for a murder charge in the criminal justice system, he said, stressing his client's belief that criminal charges will eventually be filed against Horman.

"Until I can bring Kyron home, I will not rest. It's time for there to be answers," said Young.

Does Kaine Horman think his son, Kyron, is still alive? 'Yes, ma'am, I sure do,' he says
Published: Sunday, June 03, 2012, 10:00 AM
By Lynne Terry, The Oregonian

Kaine Horman will not be at work Monday on the second anniversary of the disappearance of his son Kyron Horman.

He's reserving the day for media interviews about his son, who was last seen June 4, 2010. Over the past two years, Horman has spent countless hours reminding the public that his son is missing and that he's focused on finding him. The latest event was held Saturday, with a Run for Kyron at Cook's Park in Tigard.

The case captured the national spotlight for months as investigators searched for signs of the boy who disappeared from his elementary school, drawing attention from people as far away as Europe. His story has fallen below the radar, but Horman does everything he can to draw public awareness.

He thinks every public event -- and more are planned through the summer -- could help resolve the case.

Does he think Kyron is still alive?

"Yes, ma'am, I sure do," Horman said.

Does he think he's sequestered somewhere?

"That's pretty much the only option at this point," he said.

Horman, 38, doesn't dwell on what might have happened to Kyron. Instead, he's planning for his return.

"I'm trying to keep pace with him," Horman said. "He's going to be 10 in September."

Just the other day, Horman bought new clothes to fit a taller, bigger Kyron. Kaine Horman updates Kyron's room as well, occasionally taking out toys he enjoyed as a 7-year-old and adding new ones.

He's sure Kyron would love Legos and still play with Hot Wheels. But perhaps his video game favorites have changed, so Kaine buys Kyron new ones from time to time.

"Just because he's not here doesn't mean there's anything different in terms of him being part of the family," Horman said. "He's part of the family in a different way at the moment."

Kaine Horman cares for his 3-1/2 year old daughter, Kiara, who goes to pre-school while he holds down an engineering job at Intel.

He expects Kyron to be counted one day among the other children who've been found after lengthy periods of time.

"As a parent, I don't want to hear this could take 15 years for him to come, but at the same time if he comes home alive it's worth every day," Horman said.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has worked up an age-progressed drawing of Kyron, depicting what he should look like now based on family photos. Desiree Young, Kyron's mom, and Kaine Horman have reviewed the drawing. The drawing will be released when ready.

Ernie Allen,  president of the center, said Kaine Horman is doing everything a parent of a missing child should do: Keeping Kyron's name alive.

"The big challenge is the world forgets," Allen said. "The media spotlight dims. Law enforcement runs out of leads, and the world forgets but the families don't forget. That's why it's so important to keep hope alive."

Allen, citing a number of children who've returned to their families after years, said there's good reason to be optimistic that Kyron could come home.

"Absolutely there is a chance," Allen said. "Justice Department research shows that even in most serious child abduction cases where kids are taken by strangers, in nearly 60 percent of those cases the child comes home alive."

Kaine Horman suspects his estranged wife, Terri Moulton Horman, could crack the case by cooperating with investigators. She took Kyron to Skyline School the morning he disappeared and snapped a photo of him next to his science project. But she stopped talking to detectives, hired Stephen Houze, a high-profile defense attorney, and moved to her parents' home in Roseburg.

Terri Horman's not been arrested but has remained a focus of the investigation.

On Friday, Young filed a civil lawsuit against Terri Horman, accusing her of snatching her son and seeking $10 million in damages. Kaine Horman, who is not involved in the suit, called it a "terrific development."

"We're going to take every avenue we can to bring him home," Horman said.

Stepmother of missing Oregon boy asks delay in suit that accuses her of kidnapping him

Updated: Wednesday, July 25, 1:45 PM

PORTLAND, Ore. — The stepmother of an Oregon boy who vanished two years ago has asked a judge to hold off hearing a suit that says she knows the boy’s location.

The lawsuit filed by Kyron Horman’s biological mother, Desiree Young, asks a judge to order Terri Horman to return Kyron or, if he’s dead, say where his remains are located. The lawsuit also seeks $10 million.

Terri Horman says in a brief filed late Tuesday that a criminal investigation is under way, and the civil suit should be stayed two years while it plays out.

Investigators have long focused on Terri Horman, although they have not named her as a suspect or filed criminal charges.

The suit accuses her of kidnapping Kyron, by herself or with help.

APNewsBreak: Missing boy's mother fights delay

NIGEL DUARA, Associated Press

Published 01:45 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The biological mother of a missing Oregon boy says her civil suit against the boy's stepmother should move forward, despite the stepmother's request for a two-year delay.

Desiree Young says Terri Horman should not be allowed to delay Young's suit by two years.

Horman asked for the delay last month, saying a criminal investigation should conclude before Young's suit goes forward.

Young is seeking $10 million, and wants to force Horman to lead her to her son, Kyron Horman.

Kyron was 7 when he went missing after a June 2010 science fair. Young says Horman knows where to find Kyron or his remains.

Young's attorney, Elden Rosenthal, said in a Thursday filing that there's no Oregon precedent for deciding whether to delay a civil case while a criminal one plays out and notes that Horman has not been indicted.

"The big picture here is this: Kyron Horman has been missing for 26 months," the filing asserts. "Despite a monumental investigative effort by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, Terri Horman has not been indicted.

"The trail is getting cold. A stay of these civil proceedings would work a hardship, inequity and injustice upon the plaintiff, the public and the court."

The civil lawsuit accuses Horman of kidnapping Kyron, by herself or with help.

Investigators have long focused on Horman, although they have not named her as a suspect or filed criminal charges. In Horman's motion, attorney Peter Bunch wrote that the civil suit seeks facts that could lead to a criminal prosecution.

In a reply brief filed Thursday, Rosenthal says there's no reason to hold off on the civil suit, and denies the case is a "stalking horse" for police to use to pry answers out of Horman.

Civil allegations require a lower standard of proof — a preponderance of evidence — than criminal charges, which must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Horman's motion to delay the civil suit said that compelling her to testify could force her to invoke her constitutional right against self-incrimination, pointing out the weak spots in her case.

"She can defend herself," Young's brief asserts. "If she does not know what happened to Kyron, she can so testify."

Horman asked for and received a delay, or abatement, in her divorce from husband Kaine Horman, Kyron's father.

In Thursday's filing, Rosenthal said the delay in the divorce was granted only five months after Kyron went missing, when there was still a task force dedicated to finding him. The task force has since been put on hiatus.

"The situation is entirely different now," the filing states. It goes on to say that delays could be compromising to the search for Kyron.

Young "fears that the trail is now becoming cold," according to the filing. "Witnesses may die or disappear. Memories may fade. Records may be destroyed or lost. Foggy memories may harden into concrete false memories.

Kyron Horman's Stepmother Called 'Prime Suspect' by Judge

By ALYSSA NEWCOMB

Aug. 22, 2012

The stepmother of missing Oregon boy Kyron Horman was called a "prime suspect" in his disappearance by a judge who ruled a $10 million civil suit against the woman could proceed.

The opinion was issued in the civil case filed by Desiree Young, Kyron's birth mother, against his stepmother Terri Horman.

Terri Horman will not be required to answer any questions in the civil suit, since there is an ongoing criminal investigation into the boy's disappearance.

"The defendant is a prime suspect in the investigation," Circuit Court Judge Henry Kantor wrote, explaining his decision to allow the case to proceed but allowing Terri Horman to avoid a deposition that could potentially incriminate her in the criminal investigation.

But the judge said he believed the civil case could not be delayed.

"Witnesses and evidence may disappear. Memories may fade. The opportunity to find Kyron, alive or dead, lessens," Kantor wrote.

Young has said she believes Horman knows what happened to her son, who was 7 at the time of his disappearance in 2010.

"I believe that Terri Horman knows where Kyron is. I believe that Terri Horman is responsible for where my son is," Young said in June after she filed the civil suit.

Police have also have indicated there are discrepancies in Terri Horman's account of what happened on the morning of June 4, 2010, when Kyron disappeared, however she has not been named a formal suspect.

Horman admitted to hating her 7-year-old stepson, police said.

Kyron disappeared after his stepmother attended a school science fair where her stepson had displayed a project on red tree frogs.

She said she last saw Kyron walking down a hallway toward his classroom.

When Kyron didn't come home on the bus that Friday afternoon, his parents called the school, which in turn called 911, launching one of the largest search operations ever in Oregon.

Police have since spent more than 28,000 man hours searching for Kyron.

The missing boy's father, Kaine Horman, has since filed for divorce from Horman after being told she had allegedly tried to hire someone to kill him.

Terri Horman has released only brief statements through her attorney that she did not have anything to do with Kyron's disappearance.

Age-progression photo of missing boy released

Kaine Horman stands Monday in front of an age-progression photo of what his missing son, Kyron, could look like now during an unveiling for media at a trucking yard in Pacific.

Monday, January 28, 2013

PACIFIC (AP) — It's been nearly three years since Kyron Horman disappeared from a Portland school where his stepmother says she dropped him off.

An age-progression photo to show what he would look like now has been released in a poster from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The poster is displayed on the Gordon Trucking fleet of trucks in Washington and Oregon.

Kyron's father, Kane Horman, was at an event Monday at the trucking company yard in Pacific where the Washington State Patrol highlighted the latest addition to the Homeward Bound Program.

No arrests have been made in Kyron's disappearance. His mother, Desiree Young, is suing the stepmother, Terri Horman, seeking a court order to force her to say what happened to him.

Kaine Horman, father of missing Kyron Horman, will be at Portland Roadster Show

By Lynne Terry

March 14, 2013 at 12:15 PM

The father of Kyron Horman has not given up his relentless campaign to keep his son’s name alive even though the boy’s been missing nearly three years.

Kaine Horman said he’s setting up a booth at the Portland Roadster Show at the Expo Center from Friday through Sunday. Horman will be distributing free child ID cards to parents who bring their children to the booth.

Another highlight: The booth will feature Break the Chain and their racing team including the mini-monster "Hope" and the drag race truck.

Horman also plans a booth at Portland’s largest Garage Sale in April, as one of several upcoming events.

In an email, Horman said, “Even though Kyron has not been home he has had an impact on communities all over Oregon and the U.S. and we intend on giving back to our communities as much as we can based on the positive impacts he has had and things we have learned during this experience.”

Kyron was last seen at Skyline School June 4, 2010 at the age of 7. The investigation is ongoing, and so far no one's been arrested.

Kyron was last seen with his stepmom, Terri Horman, who’s estranged from Kaine Horman and living in Roseburg. Both Kaine Horman and Kyron’s biological mother, Desiree Young, suspect that Terri Horman knows what happened to Kyron.

Last June, Young filed a civil lawsuit against Terri Horman, accusing Kyron's stepmother of custodial interference and demanding $10 million in damages. Kaine Horman has also filed for divorce. Those two suits are pending.

Kyron Horman stepmom to fight restraining order

by KGW Staff
Posted on July 26, 2013 at 10:06 AM

PORTLAND – The stepmother of missing Portland boy Kyron Horman is fighting to stop the renewal of a restraining order against her, according to a newspaper report.

Terri Horman’s estranged husband, Kaine Horman, filed for the extension. He claims Terri Horman is responsible for the disappearance of his 7-year-old son from Skyline Elementary in July, 2010.

Kaine Horman also said police told him that Terri Horman had tried to hire someone to kill him.

As first reported by KGW’s news partner The Oregonian, Terri Horman's lawyers are calling that assertion hearsay and they want to interview Kaine Horman. They also want to interview one of the investigators in the case, according to the report.

This would be the first time Terri Horman has contested the restraining order since it was filed in 2010.

Missing Oregon boy's stepmom ordered to stay away from ex

By KATU.com Published: Aug 2, 2013 at 8:15 AM PDT Last Updated: Aug 2, 2013 at 10:55 AM PDT

PORTLAND, Ore. – Terri Horman, the stepmother of missing Oregon boy Kyron Horman, is not allowed within 150 feet of the home where her estranged husband, Kaine, lives with their daughter Kiara.

That's according to a civil no-contact order signed Thursday by Judge Henry Kantor.

It replaces a restraining order that had been in place since Kaine was told three years ago that law enforcement officials had evidence Terri had hired a hit man to kill him.

Kaine had just had the restraining order renewed a few weeks ago.

The order also prevents her from approaching Kiara’s daycare, Kaine's office at Intel in Hillsboro and the gym he works out at in Beaverton.

She is also prohibited from approaching Skyline Elementary where their son Kyron was last seen in June 2010.

The order is part of the ongoing divorce proceedings between the two.

Terri is also forbidden from owning any firearms or ammunition.

Earlier this week, Kyron's biological mother, Desiree Young, dropped the civil suit against Terri because she feared it might jeopardize the police investigation.

Search for Kyron Horman, boy missing since 2010, yields new info, mother says

Published September 02, 2013FoxNews.com

The mother of an Oregon boy missing since 2010 says that the most recent search has turned up “a lot of things and possibly evidence.”

Desiree Young said that the weekend search she organized for her son, Kyron Horman, was successful, although she would not be specific about what items were found, KPTV reported.

"We're not going to find Kyron if we're not searching," Young told the station.

About 60 volunteers, two nonprofits and 10 search dogs joined in the search, which started Saturday morning and ended Sunday, according to KPTV.

"We're not going to find Kyron if we're not searching."

- Desiree Young, mother of Kyron Horman

The items found were turned over to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, which is processing the find to determine whether anything is related to Kyron’s case.

Kyron Horman vanished from Skyline School in northwest Portland on June 4, 2010. The 7-year-old’s disappearance prompted the largest search in state history, but he was never found.

While no suspect has been named in the case, suspicion has centered on Kyron’s stepmother, Terri Horman. Terri Horman told investigators she last saw the bespectacled boy walking down the hall to his classroom after she snapped a photo of him standing next to his science project – a poster of a red-eyed tree frog.

Kyron’s teacher had recorded him absent, and nothing seemed out of order until Kyron didn’t get off his school bus later that day.

The ensuing search included more than 500 people from 18 jurisdictions, some from outside the state. The FBI also was involved.

Days became weeks, weeks became years.

Kyron’s father, Kaine Horman, eventually sought a restraining order against Terri, from whom he also filed for divorce, when sheriff’s investigators told Kaine that his wife had tried to hire someone to kill him in the months before Kyron disappeared.

Terri Horman has not been charged in the case; she has made no public comment.

Now Diane Young continues the search for Kyron.

"It's been a passion of mine to do as much as I can to keep this case moving forward and to help law enforcement to get some answers and find out what happened on June 4," said Young, according to KPTV.

Kyron Hormon’s mother raises money for renewed search

BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Four years after 7-year-old Kyron Horman waent missing from Skyline School in Northwest Portland, search efforts continue.

Horman’s mother, Desiree Young, held a car wash at Xtreme Gym in Beaverton, where his wall of hope stands, Saturday May 3 to raise money for a renewed search effort.

“I hate that it costs money to search for your son,” she said.

“We’re trying to bring in a couple of non-profit organizations, and we have to pay for their flights, and so we’re going to do a search in June, and that’s what it takes unfortunately.”

With additional funds, the search will begin this summer.

Young sued Horman’s stepmother, Terry Horman, on allegations she was somehow involved in the seven-year-old’s disappearance.

However, that suit was later dropped.

Stepmother of Missing Boy Leaves Job

EUGENE, Ore. — Feb 21, 2015, 4:22 PM ET

Associated Press

The stepmother of missing Portland boy Kyron Horman has left her job as a mental health support specialist.

Terri Horman's decision came days after a judge rejected her request for an anti-stalking order against a woman allegedly harassing her at work in Eugene.

Horman had worked for the Shangri-La Corp. since December. The nonprofit provides residential care for adults suffering from mental illness.

Shangri-La officials told The Register-Guard and The Oregonian newspapers that Horman's performance met expectations.

"She indicated to me that she wants nothing but the best for the people we served," CEO Karen Rutledge said. "She performed her job to our expectations and showed compassion to people with special needs."

The 7-year-old boy went missing in June 2010 after Terri Horman dropped him off at his Portland school. An intense search came up empty.

Terri Horman has denied any involvement in Kyron's disappearance, and authorities have not labeled her a suspect.

She asked Lane County Judge Charles Carlson on Wednesday for an anti-stalking order against Stacey Green, a woman from Cowlitz County, Washington, who is an online advocate for the missing child.

Green allegedly posted missing-child posters of Kyron around Shangri-La's Eugene office, and wrote messages such as "I will promise Terri one thing! She won't have a job long!" on social media.

Carlson denied the petition.

Horman has petitioned for name changes without success. When she tried to change her name to Claire Stella Sullivan last year, Horman told the judge she needed a new name to start a new life without the stigma of Horman attached to it.

At the time, she said she hadn't been able to find a job in four years, and she was worried about her safety after receiving threats. A Douglas County judge rejected the name change, saying it was not in the public interest.

Kyron Horman: $50K offered for information 5 years after he vanished

By Faith Karimi, CNN

Updated 11:22 AM ET, Fri May 29, 2015

(CNN)Oregon boy Kyron Horman vanished nearly five years ago, and local authorities are not giving up on him.

Kyron disappeared on June 4, 2010. He was last seen by his stepmother, who said she dropped off the 7-year-old at his elementary school in Portland.

For years, volunteers, search dogs and relatives have combed through neighborhoods, searching for clues.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office reiterated that the investigation is ongoing this year. It's offering $50,000 for information that will help resolve the case.

"A full time sheriff's office detective is primarily assigned to the Kyron Horman missing child investigation, and efforts to locate Kyron," the office said in a statement. It has also commissioned a retired FBI agent who specializes in child abduction to help with the case.

Kyron was last seen by his stepmother, Terri Horman, who told police she had dropped him off at Skyline Elementary.

Since his disappearance, some speculation has focused on his stepmother.

In August 2010, investigators solicited the public's help for information about the location of a white pickup truck she is believed to have driven the morning of his disappearance.

And in divorce filings, the boy's father, Kaine Horman, said he believes she "is involved" in the disappearance.

No charges have been filed against anyone nor has anyone been officially named a suspect.

If you have seen any of our missing persons, please call the law enforcement agency listed on the post. All missing persons are loved by someone, and their families deserve to find the answers they seek in regards to the disappearance.
