Jailed man charged with lying in missing boys case

ADRIAN, Mich. (AP) - Southern Michigan authorities have filed charges against a jail inmate they say lied when he told police he knew the whereabouts of 3 young boys who disappeared three years ago.
Police say they think the boys are dead.
9-year-old Andrew, 7-year-old Alexander and 5-year-old Tanner Skelton were last seen at their father's home in Morenci in 2010. They were to be returned to their mother, and the disappearance sparked a large search.
John Skelton says he didn't harm his sons. He's serving 10-15 years for unlawful imprisonment.
Fifty-year-old Robert J. Jamison of Adrian was arraigned Friday in Lenawee County District Court on a charge of lying to police.
Police tell the Daily Telegram he made up a detailed story about what happened to the boys and wasted investigators' time.

3 years later, mother of missing Skelton boys remains hopeful

MORENCI, Mich. - It's hard to believe it will be three years this Thanksgiving since the Skelton brothers went missing from Morenci. That day, Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton vanished without a trace.
As their father sits in prison refusing to say what he's done with them, there's now been a shift in the case with Michigan State Police steeping in and taking over the investigation.
The boys' mother, Tanya Zuvers, has come a long way in three years. She's vowing not to let what her ex-husband has done force her to the bottom of a bottle, or worse. She has hope and wants you to as well.
The boys' father, John Skelton, angry at his soon-to-be ex-wife, took the children and is refusing to say what he's done with them, telling police all sorts of stories.
"As a mom, I haven't given up yet -- feel like they're gone," said Zuvers.
Zuvers had filed for divorce right before Skelton took the boys. To this day, she has a hard time believing he'd harm them. Skelton, who is currently in prison serving 13 to 15 years in connection with the disappearance of the children, has refused to see Zuvers' face to face, but he has emailed her twice.
"It was accusing me, no mention of Andrew, Alex or Tanner," Zuvers said.
The second one came on Mother's Day this year.
"He wrote me a second email -- Happy Mother's Day," said Zuvers.
The incongruity of being wished Happy Mother's Day by him is something Zuvers just deals with, just like the shift in the investigation.
Now, the Michigan State Police is the lead in her children's disappearance. Detectives continue to call her with possible info or evidence they need her to look at. She's convinced one day she'll finally know the truth of what happened.
"I am strong. This just one more hurdle," said Zuvers.
On Zuvers' wall at home she has faith, hope and love stenciled on the wall. She told Local 4 it's that mantra that keeps her going.

Mom of three missing boys says she knows they may be dead
Dec. 26, 2013 at 10:50 AM
MORENCI, Mich., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A Michigan woman whose three sons were last seen in 2010 at their father's house says she knows there is a good chance the boys are dead.
Tanya Zuvers' ex-husband, John Skelton, is serving a prison term for kidnapping and has refused to say where the boys are or if they are alive, the Detroit News reported.
"As their mom, I still have that hope that they're still alive, but I know the reality is it's very possible they're not," she told the newspaper. "We're still looking for the clues, but my reality is there's a very good possibility my sons are no longer alive on this Earth. It took me a long time to come to that realization."
Zuvers, 47, lives in Morenci, a small town about 75 miles southwest of Detroit and just north of the Ohio line. She reported her sons missing when Skelton, 42, failed to return them in November 2010.
If they are still alive, Andrew is 12, Alexander 10 and Tanner 8.
Skelton, who had previously taken the boys to Florida without permission, told police they were with a couple he had met via the Internet. He later claimed they were with an underground network of child-protection activists.
Investigators discovered Skelton had traveled to Holiday City, Ohio, about 25 miles from Morenci, on the day after Thanksgiving in 2010. They also found he had done searches on line for information on how to break necks.
Skelton pleaded no contest to kidnapping charges and was sentenced to 10 to 15 years. Zuvers said she occasionally emails him, asking him to reveal what he did with his sons but has yet to hear back.

Mom of Missing Michigan Boys Now Believes They Are Dead
Posted: Mon 4:10 PM, May 11, 2015
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- The mother of three Michigan boys missing since Thanksgiving 2010 says she now believes they are no longer alive.
Tanya Zuvers says she's hanging on to a sliver of hope but she's almost certain they're dead.
They were last seen at their father's home in Morenci near the Michigan-Ohio border. Tanner Skelton was 5, and his brothers Alexander and Andrew were 7 and 9, respectively.
John Skelton is serving 10 to 15 years in prison after pleading no contest to unlawful imprisonment. He maintains he didn't harm his children.
The boys' disappearance led to a large search in Ohio and Michigan. Investigators say they're still following up on new tips.
Zuvers tells The Blade newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, that she knows she'll be reunited with her boys in heaven.

Where Are The Skelton Brothers? Mom Remains Hopeful 5 Years After 3 Sons Disappeared
November 19, 2015 5:47 AM
MORENCI, Mich. (WWJ/AP) – The mother of three young boys who went missing over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2010 near the Michigan-Ohio border hopes the five-year anniversary of their disappearance will bring answers.
A candlelight ceremony for Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton will be held Nov. 26 in Morenci, Michigan, at a park where the boys used to play. They would be 14, 12 and 10, respectively, as of next week.
The boys were in the care of their father when they went missing — the day after Thanksgiving in 2010.
Their mother, Tanya Zuvers, told the Detroit Free Press that she hopes the boys’ father, John Skelton, will “be overcome with the sudden urge to start talking” about their disappearance.
“The past five years I have been to hell and am on my way back, but won’t be completely there until I have answers,” she said.
Skelton, 43, is serving a 10- to 15-year sentence at the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia after pleading no contest in 2012 to three counts of unlawful imprisonment in connection with the boys’ disappearance. He has previously claimed that he didn’t harm his sons but instead turned them over to an underground safety organization.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Michigan State Police at 855-642-4847.
