Police search for Breaux Bridge woman missing since Feb. 7

ACADIANA BUREAU
May 04, 2013

LAFAYETTE — Police, along with family and friends of Crystal Dupuis Grebinger, are searching for the 32-year-old mother of four who was last seen leaving a Lafayette women’s shelter Feb. 7.

Grebinger, originally from Breaux Bridge, did not appear at several child-custody court dates in the weeks that followed Feb. 7; she was reported missing by family Feb. 18, according to a news release from the Lafayette Police Department.

“Although investigators do not have any evidence of foul play, the circumstances involving her disappearance are suspicious,” police Cpl. Paul Mouton said in the release.

Grebinger’s family and volunteers are holding a benefit at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Henry Guidry Memorial Park in Henderson.

The benefit is to raise money to offer a reward for information that leads to locating Grebinger, police said.

Grebinger is 5 feet and weighs 130 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair, and occasionally wears wigs of different styles and length.

Her family and friends have started a campaign on Facebook, Help Find Crystal Dupuis Grebinger.

People who want to volunteer also can email findcrystalnow@yahoo.com

Those with information can contact police at (337) 291-8600.

Missing woman's family offers reward
Grebinger has been missing since Feb. 8

Jun. 1, 2013
Written by Jessica Goff

The family of a missing Lafayette woman is offering a $10,000 reward for information that will lead to her safe return.

Lafayette police reported that Crystal Dupuis Grebinger, 32, was last seen on Feb. 8, shortly after leaving Faith House, the Lafayette women’s shelter. Her family said no one has seen or heard from her since.

Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said the case remains under investigation but that there are no persons of interest in connection with case.

Since her disappearance, the mother of four has missed court dates and scheduled visits with her children. Relatives said they hope that offering a cash reward will be an incentive for someone with information on her whereabouts to come forward.

“Unfortunately, since there has been no information, this is why we have to push forward with the reward,” Grebinger’s aunt, Jeanne Savoy, said. “It’s sad to say that money motivates people, but whatever will work at this point, we will try.”

Mouton said offering monetary rewards can be helpful for investigators, although they can complicate a case.

“Sometimes when a reward is offered, we’ll have erroneous information come in or it’s information we already have,” he said. “But on the other hand, it could provide some good information that could help the case.”

Court records show Grebinger filed for divorce from her husband, Sean Grebinger, Jan. 14. According to court documents, Sean Grebinger is alleged to have twice violated a protective order his wife filed against him a week before she filed for divorce. There is an active warrant for his arrest on those charges.

He is also wanted by authorities in St. Martin Parish on a bench warrant for failing to appear in February for arraignment after being accused of assaulting a teacher in Cecilia last year.

Last month, Crystal Grebinger’s family held a fundraiser in Henderson to raise money for the reward. Savoy said a Help Find Crystal account has been set up at Regions Bank for donations toward the search effort.

Anyone with information about Grebinger’s disappearance is asked to call the Lafayette police at 337-291-8600.

Warrant issued for missing woman's husband

Oct. 3, 2013

Written by Jessica Goff

Another bench warrant has been issued for the husband of a woman who has been missing from the Lafayette area since February.

Sean Grebinger, 43, missed his arraignment at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse on Tuesday morning. Fifteenth Judicial District Judge Thomas Frederick issued the arrest warrant.

This is the second arraignment Grebinger has missed since he was arrested in January for violating a protective order filed by his wife, Crystal Dupuis Grebinger.

He is now wanted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office on two fugitive warrants.

A subpoena that was served to Sean Grebinger’s Grand Anse Highway home was returned Aug. 30, marked “unable to locate.”

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office stated the home, where the Grebingers lived with their children, was vacant and for sale. They had been renting the property.

The Lafayette Police Department maintains that Grebinger is not a person of interest in his wife’s disappearance. Crystal Grebinger, 32, was last seen on Feb. 8, the day after she left Faith House, the Lafayette battered women’s shelter where she had been staying, police said.

Crystal Grebinger filed for divorce from her husband a month before her disappearance.

As of now there are no new leads in the case, Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said Wednesday.

“She is still listed as a missing person and her case remains open,” Mouton said.

Tips on Crystal Dupuis Grebinger’s possible whereabouts have slowed to a near halt, Mouton said.

“Periodically, we’ll get information and we will follow up on it, but we have received no new information of any value as of yet,” he said.

The family is offering a $10,000 reward for information on her whereabouts. Lafayette Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information that will lead authorities to find her.

After months of no contact from her or from Sean Grebinger, her family still maintains hope that Crystal Grebinger will return home, Savoy said.

“We planning to distribute more fliers in the area in the next few weeks or in the beginning of November,” Savoy said.

Crystal Grebinger is 5 feet tall, weighs 130 pounds and has dark brown hair. She was last seen wearing a gray jumpsuit and glitter Sperry shoes, her family said. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 337-232-8477.

Man claiming to be missing woman's husband contacts newspaper
Nov. 22, 2013
Written by Megan Wyatt and Jessica Goff

L
afayette police investigators are looking into information received in a phone call made to The Daily Advertiser by a man claiming to be Sean Grebinger, 43.

On Friday afternoon, the man claiming to be the husband of missing person Crystal Grebinger, said he called The Daily Advertiser to share his side of the story. During the 45-minute phone call, the man said he believes his wife remains alive and might be staying with family in San Diego.

Cpl. Paul Mouton, spokesman for the LPD, said he would present the information to investigators.

Crystal Grebinger, 32, filed for divorce Jan. 14, a month before her disappearance. Over the course of the Grebingers’ 16-year marriage, Crystal Grebinger filed multiple protective orders against her husband, and on at least one occasion, he filed an order against her. Both alleged threats of violence.

The man said he was calling from Brazil, where he said he is staying because he no longer feels safe in Acadiana. He told The Daily Advertiser his wife and some of her family conspired against him and that the setup has spiraled out of control.

“There are a few women out there who will manipulate the system,” the caller said. “Lafayette is not as good as you would think.”

Mouton said there are no new leads in the Crystal Grebinger case. The matter is still being treated as a missing person case. She has not been seen or heard from since Feb. 8, when Lafayette police said she was last seen leaving Faith House, a women’s shelter, on her own accord.

“Right now, we currently do not know Sean Grebinger’s exact location,” Mouton said. “He is a person we want to speak with due to the fact that he was married to Crystal, or still is.”

Sean Grebinger is currently wanted in Lafayette Parish as a fugitive and for violation of protective order charges.

He is also wanted on two bench warrants in St. Martin Parish, according to the parish’s assistant district attorney Chester Cedars. The first is for simple assault of a school teacher, and the second is for reckless operation of a vehicle.

Sean Grebinger has missed court dates this year, including an Oct. 1 arraignment for violation of protective order arrest in January when he showed up at the home of a family member who Crystal Grebinger was visiting, court records said. According to the caller, the violation occurred when he was trying to pick up the Grebingers’ children.

“Listen, I’m no saint,” the caller said. “But she did a whole big set up that spiraled out of control. She thought she would just get custody of the kids, but she took it to a whole new level.”

In 2002, Crystal Grebinger claimed her husband put a box cutter to her throat and threatened to kill her, according to court records. The two reconciled and Sean Grebinger was not prosecuted.

In 2012, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Crystal Grebinger on resisting an officer and disturbing the peace charges.

Responding deputies said Crystal Grebinger was behaving erratically and continued to scream at her husband even when authorities told her to go inside, according to court records filed in the 16th Judicial District.

Jeanne Savoy, Crystal Grebinger’s aunt, said that Sean Grebinger has reached out to the family and said he has no intentions of assisting in the search for his estranged wife or returning to the United States. Savoy also said that LPD told the family that though there is no person of interest in the Crystal Grebinger case, nobody has been cleared, either. The caller said he left the country at the advice of Crystal Grebinger’s uncle.

“I didn’t tell him he had to leave the country. I advised him to,” Earl Dupuis said in a Friday phone interview. “I said, ‘They’re blaming you and will continue to blame you for everything.’”

Dupuis, who lives in Destin, Fla., said he is “very, very close” to Sean and Crystal Grebinger. According to Dupuis, the Grebingers and their four children lived with Dupuis from July to September 2012.

“It’s sad the man has to take the brunt of it all,” Dupuis said. “I’m the blood uncle of Crystal, and I’m on the outside looking in. Sean’s not perfect by no means, but I know what I’ve seen. And this is not a world where the guy is innocent until proven guilty.”

Dupuis said he kicked the family out of his house after Crystal Grebinger “pushed her daughter down the stairs and broke her arm.”

Court records filed in Orange County, Fla., show that Sean Grebinger was arrested on one count of first-degree battery in October 2010. No criminal records were found in Orange County of the alleged 2012 incident.

Dupuis said he speaks to Sean Grebinger often.

“This is not about Sean,” Dupuis said. “This is about Crystal. It‘s about a mother, a wife, a sister, and the problems she had.”

Candlelight Vigil held for Domestic Abuse Victims

October 2, 2014

Alex Labat

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and in Acadiana Wednesday night, there was a show of support for victims and their families.

Faith House, a shelter for abused women and children, held a candlelight vigil in Lafayette's Girard Park. It's part of their "No More Violence, No More Silence" campaign.

As volunteers read the names of close to 40 victims killed in domestic violence related issues in Louisiana, one stood out because her fate is still unknown.

"On February 8th, she went missing," says Randy Dupuis.

His daughter, Crystal Grebinger, disappeared last year. Dupuis attended Wednesday night's vigil to thank the non-profit for helping his daughter, even though he says it's a painful reminder.

"She was here in Lafayette. She was a resident at Faith House," says Dupuis.

Grebinger went to Faith House to escape what family describes as a violent relationship.

"Louisiana actually ranks 4th in the nation for domestic violence related homicides," says LeTesha Davis, Survivor Advocate at Faith House.

Dupuis says he's holding out hope that his daughter returns safe, and isn't added to the ever growing list of the ones that didn't make it.

"Crystal, Daddy's not giving up. I'm not going to quit. I'm going to continue on looking until I find you. I miss you and I love you," says Dupuis.

The case is still open and under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Lafayette police at 337-291-8600
