From Melanie's website:

http://www.findmelanie.com/

Dear Friends, the "eyes and ears" of Melanie Metheny:

In order to find out what happened to Melanie on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, we need to know what she was doing, feeling, thinking and struggling with during the last week she was in public view.

1. On Sunday, July 16th 2006, did ANYBODY see Melanie with her two children, Hannah and Nathan in tow, probably also in the company of her boyfriend, whom we will call JD? Melanie was out in public view that afternoon, in a picnic shelter at Coonskin Park, where she left her signature on a roof beam. If you saw her, please try to give as much detail as possible about how she looked, (did she look well, not well, worried, happy, sad, emotionless?

What she was doing when you saw her, in whose company, was she by herself or with the children and JD? ANY information will give us valuable clues as to the true nature of her disappearance.

2. On Monday, July 17th 2006, Melanie was with alone with her children all day, while JD was presumably at work. Melanie was alone with JD on Monday evening, supposedly for dinner and a movie. Look at the pictures in Melanie's slide show? Did you see her with JD and without her children, or did you bump into them at a movie theater? Again, any impressions, observations, her appearance, demeanor, eye contact or lack thereof are important details, if we can fit them into with what we already know or suspect.

3. On Tuesday, July 18th 2006, all we know for sure is that her children were quickly dropped off at her apartment around 9 AM and Melanie was just getting out of the shower. She has never been a morning person, and she was not "ready to go" at 9AM in the morning, just 23 hours before she would disappear. JD's truck was not there, so presumably he was at work. After this, we have many rumors and much DISinformation about Melanie's last day in public.

So once again we are asking anybody who was in the Campbell's Creek/Belle area on that Tuesday, from 9 AM to 5PM to remember if they saw Melanie, her children or even her van. If you did, any details will be more than we can trustingly accept at this time. All our other witnesses have changed their "testimony" two or more times.

4. We believe that Melanie came to a crisis point of some kind during the evening of July 18th, just 12 hours before she disappeared. Did she call anybody on her cell phone during any of these "last days?" Did anybody have any cell phone conversations with Melanie, from July 1st to July 19th, that they can share with her family (forced to do the police work, for reasons we can only guess about.)

5. Do you know anybody else, besides Melanie, who may have dropped off their children at the Country Kids day care between 7:40 and 8:00 AM on July 19th, 2006, the morning of Melanie's disappearance?

Did anybody see her Chevy Van that morning anywhere and at any time? These seemingly minor details could break this mystery into pieces.

6. And finally, if you knew Melanie, her family would like you to share in all honesty, holding back nothing (except your identity, if you so choose) and tell us as much as you can remember about the LAST TIME you saw Melanie Metheny among us. What did she look like, what was she doing, how did she seem, what did she say, with whom did you see her, etc. etc.

Study her pictures well, if you never met her. You may have seen her and merely thinking about where you were and what you were doing two summers ago, mid-July, in the Charleston area, might just bring back to us something of this beautiful child of God missing for so long. If you know Melanie, then how could you NOT want to be honest about the last time you saw her?

Please help and do this SOON!
May God bless your efforts to remember,

From the family and friends of Melanie Metheny

Melanie has been placed on Project Jason's 18 Wheel Angels campaign. A special poster has been made for her and can be downloaded and printed for placement. More information about the program, and the link for the poster can be found here:

http://projectjason.org/18wheel.shtml

In addition to the campaign, Melanie is also featured in a national trucking publication, Independent Contractor. This free magazine is distributed in truck stops nationwide and has a circulation of about 150,000.

Through the Gears and Independent Contractor are two of Target Media Partner's many publications. In partnership with Project Jason, they each feature two missing persons each per month. You can pick up your free copies at a local truck stop, but if it's far from you, you may want to call and ask if they carry that magazine. These are NOT with the regular for purchase magazines.

We hope this helps in the search for Melanie. Please consider printing and placing a poster in businesses in your community.

A special story written for the 18 Wheel Angels Campaign by Melanie's mother, Debi:

Melanie's Story

I am the mother of a missing daughter and nothing could be as cruel as not knowing where she is again this morning, as I begin my day.  My precious firstborn, Melanie, has been missing for nearly two years.  I have no proof that Melanie is alive or departed, but the rumors of how she could have died have put many horrible pictures in my heart.

Melanie was last seen at approximately 8:00 a.m. on July 19, 2006, after dropping her children off at a facility in Belle, West Virginia.  Roughly an hour later, someone, possibly Melanie made a call from her cell phone to an auto-repair shop inquiring about the insurance check for repairs to her minivan. At approximately 9:30 a.m., a second call was made to her voice mailbox.  After she failed to pick up her children from the day care facility as scheduled, she was reported missing by her grandmother that evening.  On July 23, her gold 1998 Chevrolet Ventura minivan was located abandoned in the vicinity of Wyoming Street and Behring Avenue in Charleston, West Virginia. No evidence of her whereabouts was uncovered at the scene. Although rumors have been floating around in the surrounding communities, there have not been many leads into her actual disappearance.

She was 21 years old, 5'3" tall, dark blond hair, brown eyes and approximately 100 pounds at the time of her disappearance.  She has small birthmark on her chin, and a tooth growing behind the other on her right side.  She has metal pins and a scar on her right ankle from an automobile accident, and a cesarean scar from her last pregnancy.  She has no known tattoos or other identifying marks.

Her past was full of hardships and disappointments, but she had turned things around and this time in her life was different.  She had so much going for her; she had a family that was proud and loved her, three beautiful children and she was just about the start college courses in August 2006 to become a nurse which she was very excited about.  The irony is that she was going to be the poster girl for the West Virginia Adult Basic Education Program and her face was going to be on billboards all across West Virginia; instead, she is now on missing persons posters all across West Virginia.

She is a great girl who would help anyone; friends, strangers and especially animals.  She got her love of nature and animals from me, which I can assure you stays with you forever.  I remember watching her passions grow along with her, and in her eyes seeing myself as a young girl.  We spent many days at the lake searching for whatever we could find.  Smiling from ear to ear she would bring anything that moved for me to teach her all that I knew about it, and if I did not know we would pull out my field guides and learn together.  I know if she was here today she would be doing the same with her children.

The day that my daughter disappeared, a large piece of me vanished as well.  I fear never seeing her again, yet I refuse to let go of the hope that I will.   It breaks my heart to think of her three lovely children growing up and not knowing how much she loved them and how hard she worked to raise and keep them together. I fear having to explain to them one day that we don’t know where their Mother is.  We are stuck in this endless pain of not knowing anything and not being able to grieve properly.  Time will NEVER heal our wounds-only answers will, and unless someone comes forward with information, I do not see an end to our grief.  I am unable to put into words the depth of pain and anger that we go through on a daily basis knowing that someone out there knows something... so-called friends especially!!!  How can others live with themselves holding secrets and being silent while our family cries and begs for answers and truth?

We have searched places that no one should have to look for their child.  We have heard rumors that no one should have to hear about their child.  The truth is, we have no idea what has happened to my Melanie, and she could be anywhere.  That is why I am reaching out to the 18 Wheel Angels and pleading for your kindness in spreading Melanie’s story across the nation and keeping a watchful eye out for her.  We could never begin to reach the amount of people you can.  Bless you and may angels be with you on your journey just as you are angels in ours.

If you have any information concerning this case, please contact: Kanawha County Sheriff's Office 304-357-0169

Melanie Metheny's Family Searching for Answers, Reach Out to Community

Posted Saturday, July 19, 2008 ; 06:15 PM
Updated Saturday, July 19, 2008 ; 06:47 PM

The family wants to make sure it doesn't happen to someone else.

CHARLESTON -- Fingerprinting kids and information on staying safe are just a few of the aspects of this educational event in honor of Melanie Metheny. Two years ago she dropped her children off at a day care, and she hasn't been seen since.

"I want awareness by guilt in the public that she is still missing, and this could happen to anyone," says Donna Harper, a family member and one of the organizers of the event.

Several agencies in Kanawha County took part in the Melanie Metheny Safety Awareness Day.

"They could have turned this very negative, and they attempted to turn it to a positive thing in memory of somebody, and my heart goes out to these folks," says Detective Bobby Eggleton of the Charleston Police Department.

Melanie Metheny disappeared two years ago. If she could be at the event, family members believe she would have a favorable reaction. "That she's loved, and we miss her," says Debi Metheny, Melanie's mother.

She simply wants to know what happened to her daughter, adding that the past two years have been a roller coaster of emotions.

"It's the worst thing that anybody could possibly go through and not knowing, I don't think there's anything worse than not knowing," says Metheny.

Organizers hope the public leaves with a better understanding of being safe. Meanwhile, Melanie's family goes on with their lives, hoping someone can soon shine a light on her mysterious disappearance.

'Wanted' show to feature missing Belle woman

August 8, 2008

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- "America's Most Wanted" will air a short informational piece Saturday on Melanie Metheny of Belle, who went missing more than two years ago after she failed to pick up her three children at day care.

The FOX television show starts at 9 p.m.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department contacted the show, said Denni Wagner, production assistant for "America's Most Wanted."

"It was a very disturbing case," she said. "Maybe someone who watches the show will have seen her; maybe someone knows what happened to her."

The piece on Metheny will air just before or after a commercial break, Wagner said.

Metheny went missing July 19, 2006. Four days later, her gold Chevrolet Ventura minivan was found parked on the corner of Wyoming Street and Beuhring Avenue on Charleston's West Side.

THREE YEARS ANNIVERSARY
Disappearence of Young Mother Still Unsolved

Reported by:  Atish Baidya
July 21, 2009 10:53pm

Sandra Metheny has literally surrounded herself with memories of her missing granddaughter Melanie. Three years later, she's no better than the day she learned Melanie had vanished.

"[I'm] not good," she said. "No better than I was day one."

A digital photo frame sits right next to a collection of other framed photos. On the opposite wall, a collection of images of her missing granddaughter. The first thing you see when you walk into Sandra's home is a wall with a poster that reads, "Melanie Metheny is missing. July 19, 2006. Help bring her home."

It has obsessed me," she said. ""It is my life."

Melanie, 21, vanished after dropping her kids off at day care. A few days later Charleston Police later found her abandoned mini-van, which now sits in Sandra's yard.

"I'd like to have my granddaughter back," Sandra said.

A new website is up and running in the hopes someone has a tip that will finally give the family the answers they are searching for. On it, Melanie's mother wrote, "We'll never quit looking until you are brought back home."

Meanwhile, Sandra will continue searching, each exhausting day after day.

"I live it," she said. "I live it."

Project Jason announces the featured missing persons in the July 2009 issue of the CDLJobs.com Online Magazine, which can be viewed at http://www.cdljobs.c...zine/JULY09.htm  This month's ad is on page 10. The site receives thousands of visitors per day.

Each month, CDLJobs.com publishes a full color ad in their popular online magazine which will feature 5-6 of Project Jason’s missing person cases from across the country. The ad has clickable links which take the reader to additional information about the missing person, and a link to their printable poster.  Readers are encouraged to sign up for the AAN program and help with poster distribution. “You can be a Hero” is the theme of the joint venture.

Awareness Angels Network (AAN). AAN, begun by Project Jason in 2008, provides a way for the public to assist the families of missing persons. Missing persons posters designed specifically for the AAN program are disseminated via email to those enrolled in the program. Participants can then upload the posters to websites, print and place the posters in public areas, and forward them to their contacts. The program helps spread the word and increase the chances of finding the person.

In the July issue, the following missing persons were featured:

Brian Barton, missing from Federal Way, WA since 3/10/2005:

CHARLESTON -- It seemed to be a typical day for Melanie Metheny of Campbell's Creek. On July 19, 2006 investigators say she dropped off her children at day care. She was going to pick up transcripts to start college but never did, nor did she pick up her kids. Her van was found a few days later, but there was no sign of Melanie.

Melanie Metheny: Kanawha County mother still missing after 6 years

By April Kaull, Anchor - bio | email

It's been six years since a mother of three from Kanawha County was last seen.

Melanie Metheny dropped off her children at daycare in Belle on the morning of July 19, 2006, according to investigators.

Family members have said that the young mother was trying to better herself by attending school to become a pediatrician. She was also set to appear on billboards advertising an adult education program.

Instead, Melanie Metheny seemingly vanished without a trace. Her van was found on Charleston's west side, four days after she was last seen.

Since then, police have continued to follow up tips and search for her. Metheny is 5'3", 100 pounds and had blond hair and brown eyes at the time of her disappearance.

A website has been set up to aid in the search for Melanie Metheny. You can learn more by clicking on this link. A $500 reward is being offered in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office at 304-357-0169.

From the Family:

MELANIE’S HOPE FIRST ANNUAL FUNDRASER EVENT
TO BE HELD JULY 20TH 2013
at Coonskin Park, Charleston WV, Columbia Shelter
from 10am until 5pm

Missing girl’s family assists the community while on their search to find her

Melanie’s HOPE (Help Our Pets Endure) is beginning an annual benefit to keep Melanie’s situation in the forefront while assisting one of Melanie’s passions -- the ethical care, protection, and love of all animals. Melanie, from a very young age, had a great desire to help any animal in need. In that spirit, Melanie’s HOPE was formed with the goal of supporting that love. HOPE’s plan is to hold an annual event to be held each July to bring awareness while also raising donations that will go towards animal organization who work strongly to save animals in need.

Melanie Metheny was last seen at approximately 8:00am after dropping her children at daycare. She had planned to go to the Garnet Career Center to pick up her transcripts to register for classes at West Virginia State University but never arrived. She was reported missing that evening, after failing to pick up her children from the day care facility as scheduled. Four days later, her gold Chevrolet Ventura minivan was found parked on the corner of Wyoming Street and Behring Avenue on Charleston’s West Side. She has never been heard from again.

HOPE invites you to come and enjoy food, fun and activities with us at Coonskin Park, Charleston, WV, Columbia Shelter (near the pool).
